I have ALL of the menus for the East Bound repo cruise..YES! The actual Menus!!!...OMG...we carried home so much c*&p from that cruise to 'scrapbook'....We each brought an empty suitcase and that puppy was filled when we went home!!! Not to mention that they gave us nice exclusive gifts too for being castaway club members....and yes, we will be packing an empty suitcase for this trip too!!!

Ok my mission is one suitcase 27", i set the goal myself, well one and a carry-on.

You wouldn't have scans of those menus would you? lol.

One suitcase for 15 days... HOLY COW.. you are an awesome packer. What size suitcase? I am looking for new luggage. OURs is cheap sets. We are traveling so much now that we need better stuff.. Any recommendations from anyone?

This morning we started to rethink this cruise. Most of our dc will be so young, they won't remember a thing. Of course we would love the experience, we are just debating if we should wait until the are all old enough to understand the importance and experience of going through the Panama Canal and do it in say 5 years knowing it might not be on DCL:sad1:

We hope to be there - just hubby John and me, Marilyn, children all grown up with their own!:) First cruise - no idea what catagory stateroom to go for or anything, so need all the help I can get! I have really wanted to do a Panama Canal cruise, so when I saw this I got very excited!

Have a request in at DU.

No, sorry I don't, but if you have questions, I could see about digging them out and answering them. I do know that almost every night was a different theme and menu. The menus were custom printed and we couldn't get them until after the 2nd seating (we had the first) but we would always come back down and then would have sets made up for us, and they made sure they got us pristine ones. So we have full sets of dinner and desert menus for every night

My parents were big on draggin their kids on cross country vacations from the time we were young. I remember these vacations vividly...the flat tires, the pink eye, hiding in my cousins basement because of tornado watches (and that was the vacation when I was 6, my sister 4 and my brother 2) and we still joke about it. I have memories of other vacations that involved my parents losing my youngest brother in Williamsburg (I was 15, he was 3 and I found him and the subsiquent scramble of the US Park service to try and find him), my other brother getting locked in a gas station restroom and screaming so loudly and shrilly that the manager thought a woman was being raped/killed and came running with a crow bar. So did I 'appreciate' the historical significance of the things at the time? No, at 15 in Williamsburg all I cared about was fliring with the cute guys. So if you want to wait and take your kids when they will appreciate the historical significance of something, wait until they are 30. If you want them to have great memoriest of traveling to new places and having adventures and stories to tell around the table at holidays for years and years to come, then take them. Just my opinion, YMMV

Please check for omissions, corrections and other boo boos...remember, be kind!!! :hippie:

We are up to 21 families/groups (and more than that in cabins!!!):grouphug:

Have a great weekend!!!

Laura, have just a touch of the travel planning OCD thing, I really like to decide on my food choices at least 18 months in advance, and we are already down to 15, jk, but it does give me something to do on those boring nights at home, lol. I do a spreadsheet, with 1, 2, 3 choices, very sad but ya know....

So, off to the main board to put it out there, lol.

Good philosophy, and excellent advice. I concur!

Besides that, I really enjoy the "family" time, and the ability to be together so much that we can never seem to get here at home when we are all busy, working, etc., etc..

That is great advice and I really appreciate. Ds and I drove from NJ to Alaska for 3 months, alone, when he was 10 and he hated it at the time and now he constanly relives the memories, he is 16. We also did multiple out west trips in 2-3 week time spans camping the whole way.
These buggers will be almost 4, just turned 2, and 9 months. Weighing in is the fact that I will want them all to experience and remember going through the canal so that means another trip and the fact that we will go on 2 other vacations (one of which will be Disney) if not this one in 08 and we have a travel trailer for weekend trips. Decisions, decisions, ugh, wait until dh reads your response! I don't ever want to have any regrets in life.
Sounds like you have great memories, I wish there were more families that could say the same!

HI to the other couples, esp the ones with children all grown and gone....there weren't too many of those on my last cruise.

I'm glad someone asked about why we are pirates - - I loved the answer - it is so cool.

So, I'm a little dense - do you mind explaining the rollcall -- where is it? :confused3

I felt so good coming back to the board....we just had dinner with my inlaws who are negative about many things and when we brought up that we were going on this cruise all I heard was how dangerous cruises are and how many people get lost and thrown overboard...etc etc etc.....it is such a downer to be happy and excited about something and have people do that.....they are not Disney fans either so - pooey on them :rolleyes1 !

That is great! I don't do the spreadsheets, but I know what I want! I am pregnant right now and we are going on the 4 night in a few weeks and basically that is what I spend my evenings doing, drooling.
So, I saw a few people mention they or others didn't like the food onboard, why not?

Also, if we decide against this sailing I will pm, wouldn't leave us on, don't worry.

Roll Call on post 1, check it out.

Cruise dangers, my DM was the same, I cruised Solo in December, my DIS group just assigned one person to make sure I made it to events and Dinner each night, it was easy! Besides, we will have 8 sea days, can't even get off the ship.

I do it solo, adopted by DISer this cruise, and I adopted many of the DIS kids as Nieces and Nephews, it was a blast.

We kind of have one of each . . . DD is currently 6 (almost 7), and DS is 19 . . (20 soon). He will not be coming with us as he will be in his first year of med school while we are on this cruise.

I've heard a lot of negative stuff about Disney, cruises, etc . . . over the years, and now I just discuss my vacations with my REAL friends - mostly here!

Tara,

I will share my spreadsheets once i make them for this cruise.

The main complaint about food is that it can be bland, but I was fine. I had lamb for the first time on the ship and it was wonderful.

PJ, I cruised solo the first time too. And it was the DIS 'family' that made it so much more enjoyable! :thumbsup2

Ok, first, I am glad that lots of other people got and liked my idea for naming this board. Amazing what a couple of Smirnoff Ice will do for the idea center:3dglasses

The idea of the roll call is so that we can start to get to know a little bit about each other. You can find out if you have people going who live in your neck of the woods, or have kids your kids age, etc...:dance3:

As for the negative nellies...ignore them...trust me, if it was that easy to lose someone or toss them overboard, I would have been far more successful at it, than I have been so far. (0 for 3) :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:
As for the danger, well, you could get hit by a bus tomorrow, so you shouldn't ever leave your house...oh wait, it might get hit by a meteor, so you better get in the basement, no wait, it might flood and then you would drown...well damn!!! :scared1: No place is safe!!! Guess you better get on the cruise, at least then you will die doing something fun!!! pirate: But I have to tell you the odds are really really good that you won't die,or drown or get lost...however I can guarantee one thing that will disappear...YOUR MONEY!!!! :thumbsup2

Ok I thought we were going to do the Eastbound transition but DH said there is no way he can do it that month with his job (some special accredidation inspection) so he is going to talk to his boss about May so please please please send all the PD that you can, this is our 20th anniversary and I really want to spend it on a transition cruise.
