I talked to my mom and she said that they were getting all the board and card games out and ready for Thanksgiving....I was like, oh, how nice. She did not ask me if we were coming, I think she automatically assumes...! Yikes!

Sounds like trouble!!

I am sure we will have to deal with this in the years to come. DH's parents are quite a bit older than my parents and since his sister is in Alabama, I am sure the care would fall onto us.

Maybe you should mention this to them the next time they annoy you!

Before we married we both talked about what will happen to us as we age. We don't want to be a burden on our girls.

I think that probably our parents said this too , but either they choose to forget that or dementia takes over or there is no other option!! I have certainly said it and would hate to have to live with any of my children or need this kind of help!

It is really hard for those stuck in the sandwich generation these days.

I must be the witch on this board! Everyone here seems to take such good care of their elderly parents. Mine are not moving in with me, not even for a month. My dad is in poor health and will probably go before my mom. My sister and brother and I have talked and none of us will take my mom in. Right now she is in good health but when she can not live alone then she will have to go to a home. I know that sounds mean but the 2 of us just could not live together.

I don't think I could have coped with my mother, but as it happened I didn't have to make that decision as she remarried at 79, they had a few good years before their health deteriorated, but they managed between them till she died at 88. John's mother has just gone into a home at the age of 91. I think she would have liked to move in with one of her daughter's, but that was not offered.

One brother is in SC and one is in Delaware. The one in Delaware is the one getting married this week.

I tried to get my mom to let me get her hair done for te wedding.. (itg really needs color) and she said no color....too expensive. My mom has more money than she will ever be able to spend in two full lifetimes.

Then she told me she will do anything I want with her hair...

Crazy...I need a drink

Someone was wondering about the PC books for kids but I can't remember who. Anyway The book "Locks, Crocs, and Skeeters" arrived while we were gone and it really is a good little book. It starts off with the story so young kids get a general idea and then later in the book it goes into details for the older child. Perfect for signing!

I don't think you are a witch either. Every family has to make choices that work best for their families. In my family, my parents just gritted their teeth and took care of their parents.

By example I expect my kids will someday have to take care of me. I don't know if I could have lived with my mother, but she did not live long enough for me to find out. However, I do have three other living sisters who would have taken her as they got along much better with her than I.
