I am just the opposite about shopping. My late sister Karen and I use to be great shoppers. When I would visit her in Los Angeles, we would eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa. Now, I don't really have anyone to shop who has as much fun as we did.

http://www.southcoastplaza.com/

My favorite mall!!! When we still lived in OC I used to take my oldest to the carosel there and then to See's Candies--he so loved doing that! It's a great memory we have. My favorite restaurant was 40 Carrots (which is long gone....that was there before South Coast was redone and enlarged). When I was in high school I used to work there at I. Magnum, which is also long gone. I sometimes hate how in America we redo and go for bigger/better. Sometimes it's nice to keep something of the past....

Boy did you really bring back the memories. I have baby pictures of Samantha riding that carousel.

My first fur coat came from I. Magnin. I used to shop at both the I. Magnin's and Joseph Magnin's here in the Bay area. I agree with you that some of the great specialty stores are long gone.

I also remember when St. John knits outfits were affordable back in the early 1980's. My whole wardrobe consisted of St. John suits and dresses which were absolutely fabulous for traveling day or night. They never wrinkled, you could hand wash in a sink. Just the best ever!!

Some of the dresses were had low cut backs which were covered by a jacket. At night you could take off the jacket and dress it up!!

They never cost more than $200 each so you had two dress for the cost of one. Now they cost an absolute fortune.

John - I've eaten at Marakesh several times, and have enjoyed it each time.

BTW - let me know if you'll have a car when you're here, or if you'd like/need me to pick you guys up for breakfast.

We are getting a car, but thanks very much for the offer!

Been working on this off and on all day . . .

I have to say I am intrigued by the famous people you all have met and had connections with in your lives. While I don't go out of my way to meet such people or try to - I am like everyone else fascinated by them. Not so much the fame, but there is something "different" about people I believe that pushes them when they seek and achieve fame. I don't push myself to try and meet such people, because my true desire would be to spend time with them, get to know them, and understand what makes them who they are. Since in most cases that is not possible I don't bother.

Now there's a blast from my past....St. John knits! Their corporate office and small workshop/wearhouse was across the street from my first apartment in Irvine. They've since moved to a MUCH bigger facility off of Jamboree in Irvine. I was fortunate to have bought a St. John knit dress to wear to one of my sorority dances when I was in college (I scrimped and saved for that one-it was beautiful) and you're right, now they're untouchable, at least for me! Marie Gray has taken that company to a new level!

I've met Donny, he is a SWEETHEART! I'll post a picture when I get home tonight.

Ok, I'll admit when I was about 8 or so I had a HUGE crush on him. I wrote him a fan letter and he sent me a postcard back. I was in heaven. I held on to the postcard until I was a teen and then thought it was stupid that I had a postcard from Donny Osmond so I threw it away. Now I wished I would have kept it. Then about 15 years ago I was in my neighborhood grocery store and I saw him in the checkout line (he and his family were living in Irvine at that time). I wanted to go up and tell him that when I was a kid I had a huge crush on him but then I thought it might make him feel old or something so I let him go on his way without saying anything. It was weird because seeing him in the flesh felt like a full circle moment!

.

My Amy got to meet Donny too . . . we went to a concert, (unwillingly on my part) and she got in line to meet him after the show (limited to the first 50 who got in line). I waited for over two hours for her to do this! I don't think she washed her hand for a week after shaking hands.:rotfl2:

And they call it puppy love!:rotfl:

I am the generation of guys who all the girls wanted to be Donny, and we weren't - so I hated him. He did do an OK show though.

I was a fan of Donny's but my big crush of that era was Sean Cassidy:love: I remember my grandfather bought me a shirt with his picture on it and my name above it....I wore that thing all the time:lmao:

Lisa...your story about your postcard from Donny reminded me of a time with Art. So Art Carney and his family lived in my small hometown in CT and my mom and his son were best friends. I would go over there all the time in the summer and play with his grandkids. Art was nice but his wife was a sweetie. I must have been 6 or 7 and it somehow hit me that he was famous...I think we saw an old episode of the Honeymooner's on TV or something. I go flying downstairs and ask him for an autograph, which he does while laughing. I was so proud of that for a while and then decided just to throw it away since I knew him and saw him often. Now that he is gone, I wish I had kept that for a memory of those years hanging out with him and the family.

I'll be seeing his 1/2 brother DAVID CASSIDY this Sunday at Epcot for the Eat to the Beat concert......

I also go see Davy Jones (from the Monkees) any time he's here   (and he's more my height :rotfl: )

Sorry it wasn't the best show, but I'm glad you got to have a break at least!

:wizard: :wizard:

Indeed, it was wonderful to get out and away from reality for a short time. :thumbsup2 Cindy is a nut and had me laughing my head off after the show when we were trying to get out of the parking lot. For some reason, it was just really funny watching all the people in their cars getting so impatient! :rotfl:

Holly, it does seem like it's out of Tyler's control....it is so NOT his personality. But it sounds like you've got all the bases covered and you will find the answer and be able to fix it. Stay strong!

Sending you hugs and prayers and pixie dust!!!!!!

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:    pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust: pixiedust:

THANKS a ton! I'll take all the hugs & prayers & pixie dust you've got! :goodvibes

Maybe Tyler's dad would understand that if it is neurological or a chemical imbalance then Tyler is also suffering as much if not more than you are. He knows he shouldn't behave this way but he just can't help it. He also knows that the other kids are not acting this way. Try and have a good weekend!!! :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

That's a really good point that I plan on stressing to his dad if indeed that's what's going on with Tyler. My step-sister's oldest son had similar problems and he was so miserable he told her many times he wished he could just die. He was 9 when he was saying that. How awful for a child to be so frustrated and miserable. The same thing happened with my best friend's son and he expressed those same feelings when he was SEVEN. :sad2: I'll do everything in my power to try to prevent Tyler from having to feel that way. He's a very confident and outgoing kid and I hope to help him stay that way.

Holly, it can't have been easy for you going to the school and hearing about Tyler, but they sound to have been helpful and now you can take it from there. Shame about his dad, but perhaps once he catches on to what the doc says he might be more helpful.

Keep smiling - you're doing a great job.:thumbsup2

I'm really thinking he might listen when a professional tells him what might be going on with Tyler (whatever the diagnosis ends up being). I just keep telling myself to be patient and wait for him to realize how serious things are, but at the same time, keep plugging away doing whatever I can do to keep the ball rolling.

Holly - glad you went into the school to talk to the counselors. I think you're on the right track - taking Tyler to the Dr on Monday, and going through to talk to the counselors through your ex's program.

Know that we're here for you! :grouphug:

Thanks! I'm really happy about how helpful the school is! Looking forward to his doctor's ideas about where we should start.

Hi Holly

How are you today?

You are good mother and I am surprised that in your area have counselling for Tyler

In my home, Scotland, don't have counselling for my daughter. I wish to have it for her bad behaviour. I wait and see tomorrow as doctor specialist is coming to my house plus visit teacher too.

Scottishwee35
Well, it's good that the doctor is coming to your house tomorrow. I hope the specialist and teacher are able to give you some ideas for helping your daughter. I think you need some of this too:  :grouphug:  :grouphug:
