Hi all,
Just popping after recovering from my trip to San Pedro and Old Fort MacArthur Days. I'm trying to catch up all the posts, but thought I would drop a few thoughts before getting lost in past posts.
1. Vagabon Inn in San Pedro....think Motel 6 cost and feel. Personally, I think I would have rather stayed next door at the Holiday Inn. It looked nicer and better kept. The Vagabon Inn entrance looked like it had just been hit by a drunk driver. The room was adequate. However when I went to my room for the first time, I turned on a light and the a/c since I wasn't planning on coming back until after dark. When I returned to the room, the light and a/c were turned off AND the window was opened a crack. I was not happy.
2. Fort MacArthur is a fascinating place. It's a 1940's era Fort that has been decommissioned to a public museum. They hold 1940's Swing Era dances there, complete with giant spotlights. The museum operates on a donation entrance basis. The event I attended is a fundraiser for the museum.
3. (Bonus) I got to meet the producers of History Channel's Mail Call at a 5 course dinner served Saturday night. I'm afraid I didn't know what Mail Call was. You should have seen their faces when I asked "What's Mail Call?" However, it was great getting "educated" about it. The difference between men and boys is the price of their toys.
4. The Port of LA/San Pedro isn't nearly as nice as Port Canaveral. It's main purpose is a shipping port and it shows. The area is truly a haven for today's sailors, but the Korean Friendship Bell & Fort Mac at Angeles Park was a hidden treasure in a lovely neighborhood.
5. I highly suspect that Disney will be offering shuttles to
Disneyland following departure from the ship. I know Disney offers shuttles from LAX which is only about 10 minutes from San Pedro. If I were trying to get to the Disney area or LAX, I would look to a Disney shuttle as the most convenient solution.
okay, back to catching up and still hoping for Vegas in Jan.
