May 10, 2008 Ship of Thieves! Stealing the Magic..AGAIN!!! Panama Canal FL to CA!!! Part 4

for us we will only need a one way flight from CA to FL...I guess I'll have to see if it is cheaper to fly into Orlando or Tampa. I am leaning on driving to my mom's house and leaving our car there and then having her drive us to the port and pick us up from the airport. This is all contingent on her still living there of course...she does have her house up for sale!

I know for Southwest, flying to Tampa is definately less expensive...for me it's often enough to cover a rental car. If I can't grab SW to MCO the first day they open up, I usually have to pay big bucks for the non stop flights. I've probably done 1/2 my WDW trips into Tampa.

We are planning on flying out to Orlando (5 one ways) and then driving back from California. .

We are considering driving back also...mostly because of SHOPPING on the cruise ;) Just have to figure out how to get to a car rental place open on Sundays.

I wish we'd considered starting school later for our oldest. He really would have benefited from an extra year of maturation. Ah well. He did manage to graduate last year...barely...

I think the US Marine Corp will put a fine polish on the maturity issue! I know the US Navy really a big difference for my brother. :thumbsup2

Jackie...Please tell Miss Victoria hello from us all. Will she be coming to the meet in May??

No, she can't miss school. I am still working on getting PEGGY to come though ::yes::

THREE MORE HOURS TILL "LOST"!!!! popcorn::

I'm thinking as it gets closer to the date of sailing, if enough of us call, they may just consider opening it. As I recall, most ships come and leave on Saturdays there (which is why they're closed on Sun) but the Magic will be coming and leaving on Sundays for 12 weeks....seems like they'd loose business if they don't open up. They may not realize the Magic's coming? :confused3

If you take the shuttle to the Disneyland hotel, I believe you can pick up a rental car from there on Sunday.

Just found out more information regarding Jenna's school next year.

Class let's out May 21st, so she will miss that last 8 days of school for this cruise. Was told by her teacher (she is in a multi-age class, so will have the same teacher next year) not worry, she won't really miss anything.

Aimes testing is April 7th through April 11th, so she won't miss testing. Huge relief.

AIMs testing? You must be a zonie? What school district? Ours (Scottsdale) doesn't let out next year until May 28.

Now there's a thought....I would assume the shuttle to DL would be offered as a transfer? Anyone know? Also, what car rental agency is at DL? I'm cracking myself up, like the ship is leaving tomorrow....we have 12 whole months to plan this stuff!!! :lmao: :rotfl2:

Thanks...he's pretty proud of himself. He rides everyday in our backyard--we put a perimeter side walk around our yard so that the kids could ride their bikes safely and not have to go out front.

That is the coolest idea ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are hoping to put a sports court in our new home (when we get it on June 29 :thumbsup2 ) for that reason.

You're awesome!!! Thanks...I'm adding this info to my little black book....

That is the coolest idea ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We are hoping to put a sports court in our new home (when we get it on June 29 :thumbsup2 ) for that reason.

I love your positive thinking!!

We also put in a small (and informal) half basketball court....which we really haven't used (no like we thought we would). It's come in handy for putting tables out for parties.

AIMs testing? You must be a zonie? What school district? Ours (Scottsdale) doesn't let out next year until May 28.

We are in Litchfield Park. Work in Scottsdale and usually notice our breaks are a week apart too.

. . . Anybody know anything about real estate...specifically land...we own a five acre lot in Delaware and we got a letter saying that the owner of the five acre lot next to ours wants to purchase 30 feet of road frontage from us. His real estate agent said he wants to build two houses on his lot and sell them. In order for him to comply with county zoning requirements, he needs more road frontage. . .
Key question: Will selling 30 feet of road frontage eliminate your ability to build two houses? If so, your property's value will decrease significantly.

You might not intend to build two houses right now, but a developer might some day.

You have to know that even though we will be on a balcony over looking the ocean Deb will be on the lap top DISing away, some times I feal like a "DISBOARD widower" as in "football widow" but she did find some great friends "and four star wines" :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

best to all today and It's getting closer every day:grouphug: pirate: pirate: pirate:

Grumpy John

Thanks John and Deb!!:thumbsup2

We hope to introduce you to even MORE great wines in the next year and on the cruise!!!;)

Good to hear from you too, John! I keep telling DH (Ted) that he can still DIS (it is his account, after all...) but he is reticent!!:rolleyes1

Karen

I'm sure most of you have seen this, but a few days ago, Disney officially signed the contract to build the two new ships.....

http://www.dclnews.com/PressReleaseDetail.aspx?PressReleaseID=1065

Yup, Lisa, DH is OBSESSED about it!!

He faxed a letter to DCL the day it was announced to make sure he was on "the list" for the innaugural sailing. We received a very official "thanks, but we are not taking requests at this time" letter.

He emails me every waking moment on updates...

Oh well, better to be informed! Thanks for the link!!

Karen

not there yet Deb!!!!:thumbsup2 Maz went last week, we go tomorrow!

Well, know that you will be missed...and hope you have the best trip ever. I will be jealous!

Just a flying visit as I still have so much to do before we go tomorrow, and we've been really busy the last few days so don't have time to catch up with all the pages...boo!!!:rolleyes1

My friend's wedding went well on Saturday, she had a beautiful day for it, I have some photo's if anyone is interested?

YES, we LOVE pictures...please do post when you can.

Dad enjoyed his Birthday on Sunday with us there and my brother and sil too. We took them out to dinner on Friday night to our fave Spanish restaurant where the owners are the friendliest people I've ever met and still remamber us from when we used to live around there. I had the best paella!

There's nothing like going back to your hometown, the place were you grew up and are so familiar with. Glad you enjoyed it. Any pictures?

Anyway, just spent a fortune on all those last minute bits and pieces for teh trip....should have waited and got them over there in the US, I'm sure it's much cheaper really.:confused3 :rolleyes1

Hope everyone is well....I'm keeping you all in my thoughts and will be thinking of you while I'm cruising...I may even have a glass of champagne and toast us Champagne girls for next year!;) :cool1:

Cheers! Enjoy a glass for me too!:cutie:

'Talk' to you all again in a couple of weeks or so!:dance3:

cya, have fun!!!:cool2: :dance3: :cool2:

I agree with Kaylee-Ryan turned 5 in June before Kingergarten started but I observed he was one of the youngest in his class...most kids were already 6 years old which I found interesting. My birthday is in August so I was just 5 when school started...that was the norm then. Now it's different. And some hold back for reasons other than maturity, social readiness or academic readiness...now I've heard as a reason to hold back....ready? So the kid will be older/bigger for ATHLETICS!!!! WHAT?!?!?

Lisa, it really is different now...My birthday is November and I started Kindergarden when I was 4. I was always the youngest, but only by a couple of months. Everyone else started at 5.

It was great because I got my drivers license early....I had a Jr. License at only 16 years old. It automatically turned over at age 17. I also graduated at 17. I never had any problems in school and I was extremely responsible at a young age. I started my first job at 16 and worked full time after school and weekends.

I would hate to think that they are holding kids back today because of athletic reasons. That is just so rediculous!

Key question: Will selling 30 feet of road frontage eliminate your ability to build two houses? If so, your property's value will decrease significantly.

That's a great question and something to definitely think about. We called our real estate agent in Delaware and told her what's going on. She said she will look up the zoning requirements with the county. So we'll find out. We'll probably need the same 30 feet of road frontage too.

You might not intend to build two houses right now, but a developer might some day.

We are building our retirement home in four years, but you never know what could happen and you always want to keep your options open.

Woody

That is a key question that we have to look into. Thanks for your insight and helpfulness. Can't wait to meet you and Mrs. Woody!;) ;)
