Over the years I had several fellow teachers' kids as students in my remedial reading class.

I'm a teacher (just subbing these days) and I freaked a bit when DS9 had to have remedial reading in first grade. Thought it reflected on me personally, being a teacher and all. Funny how we parents can get so wrapped up in our children's successes and failures and how it reflects on US. I got over it soon enough. I'm definitely one who can't teach my own kids. Love to teach other children, but my own kids--no way! DS9 wants to be home-schooled in the worst way, but I don't see that working out at all. Maybe his father could do it, but not me. DS9 and I are just way too much alike, poor guy. :scared1:

Cool! Where did you get that???

I bought it on eBay (I'm a pin trader/collector).

I also have this one!

You know, most of the other women here, probably have NO idea what you're talking about! Including me. Are you still talking basketball? Our few men here (is it 3?) need to come back so you'll have somebody to talk to about the game! :rotfl2: Sorry! ;)

There are a couple of us here that understand. Now, when you are talking about a specific handbag brand or shoe brand you lose me,:confused3

OK, I have a question for people in the UK . . .

My DW LOVES the British sitcoms (they drive me crazy) . . .

I am just cuirous if they are popular there - she watches Hyacinth, Keeping up Appearances, and As Time Goes By . . .

Just an FYI, I don't watch American sitcoms either, but our house is constantly filled with people talking in a British accent coming from the TV she watches!

I love these too, John1! Absolutely LOVE Keeping Up Appearances

We are going to Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, a small volcanic Spanish island some way from Spain off the African coast. We are really just crashing out for the 2 weeks, eating and walking around a little. Swimming too I hope!

Sounds fabulous. I say leave the laptop and just plan on day 1 at home being catch up day, or maybe day 1 & 2:lmao:

Actually Anna Maria is where the Outlawz live....right in the bend at Runaway Bay. They have a condo there.

Such a small world....Runaway Bay is where my grandparents lived for 20+ years when the snowbirded down there. When the moved there full time, they moved to Perico Bay, just before the bridge to Anna Maria. Is Fast Eddie's still around? That was my grandmother's favorite restaurant.

Carol....got my fish extender today! :cool1: :cool1: Thank you very much, I love it. It will be one of the presents that the DD's get for christmas so they can figure out their big present. We are doing a treasure hunt for christmas and they need to put all the clues together to figure out what that they are going on a cruise!

I know the feeling. DD #1 and I aren't even allowed to do homework together if it involves math! :lmao: It turns into a typical battle of the minds. She is a bit lazy and loves to just guess at the answers and call it good. When I ask her to redo something, she gets mad and starts telling me it is good enough. I was a perfectionist when it came to school work so I want her to hand in her homework done correctly...we just don't mesh on that idea. I have learned to let her do it her way though and over the year (she has an awesome teacher this year who insists on work being done neatly and up to a certain standard. She actually sent DD a postcard last week telling her how much her work had improved this year and how proud she was of her! ) her work has improved. I really respect teachers and all they go through and put up with on a daily basis!!!!

My DH is doing a production of Godspell.....has been working on this for 1 year and it is next weekend...Friday night..Sat night and Sun afternoon. I have been selling tickets...and we have sold about 1,000 tickets.....should be a great event!!!

Godspell is my all time FAVORITE show....I saw the movie on TV and I saw the play on Broadway in NYC. I love the story, I love the music and I love the way I feel after seeing it. I wish it wasn't next weekend, I could have managed a visit to Virginia if I had a little more time to plan it. I would have loved to be there for this. Have a great show and break a leg! :flower3:

I love to talk sports....I think that is why DH married me. That is all that was talked about while I was growing up with two olde brothers and a sports nut dad........

I LOVE Football. I watch every weekend in Season. My DH is a football widower because he's not interested. So he usually cooks a great meal on Sundays in Football season. We're so backwards in my house. :upsidedow

best,
deb

Thank you!!! I know this is all pretty boring if you don't have a relative in the pageant. I know I would not even know it was going to be on if she was not in it, but if you are interested, I can give you the insider play by play. My aunt and uncle will be there tommorow a.m. and my aunt is going to call me every day. (mostly because I love my aunt dearly and I want her to be able to share her joy with me)

and no, they have not met Donald yet. Just Danny Bonaduce and Jay Leno.
Knowing someone who knows one of the contestants makes it interesting. DD's friend in HS was Miss Teen USA, Mindy Duncan, very cute redhead!

I already told DH I'm not doing laundry on the cruise so we will stock up on socks and underwear before we go!!!

That's what I do every cruise....I buy all new clothes including undies and socks. I order it online and when it gets to my house, I just put it into a suitcase and I'm packed and ready to go....so much easier than sorting through clothes and washing and drying and folding. UGH! :sad2: Then I have all new things to wear on my trip and it makes the vacation even better. I also get a manicure and pedicure and eyebrows and hair done. Then it really feels like vacation! pamper, pamper, pamper!

best,
deb

DH and his brother share the same birthday, four years apart. DH is the younger of the two and was the one to spoil his brother's birthday. I'm not sure his brother ever got over it.:lmao:

I remember as a kid there was a family with two sons, a year apart in age, who had the same birthday. I couldn't understand how they WEREN'T twins--my mom tried to explain it to me, but I couldn't get it!!:rotfl:

Guess I had better watch # 2 soon! Does that mean I am kicked off this board, not having seen POTC 1 & 2. :sad2: My family watched 2 without me and I just haven't had a chance, but I own the DVD.

I love it, but I think you have to see it at least twice to take everything in--I thought it didn't make sense until I saw it the second time.

My DD's school uses a program called Read Well and Read Naturally. It is all based on timed readings, but DD loves that. She will time herself and see if she can beat her goals and then keep going to see how high she can get. I appreciate the program...requires a lot of parental support...but many of the stories aren't age appropriate. If your child reads ahead of their grade the stories are just too detailed or intense subject matter.

At a conference several years ago I believe I saw a presentation by the woman who developed that program. Is it the one where kids read along with tapes of someone reading the story? There is a lot of research supporting repeated reading as a good way to build fluency. And parent support is vital, no matter what.

Bet John and PJ are going to try and steal that! :lmao:

I'm so excited! Thanks for organizing this. I always wanted to try high tea but there just wasn't time to fit it in. I love it that we have so many sea days!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

I never felt it was a personal reflection. In fact, there were many times over the years where I asked certain parents to STOP trying to help their kids at home--just read aloud to them as often as possible. Later they would thank me!:)

I absolutely love your treasure hunt idea to reveal the cruise to your kids! :goodvibes

Don't forget the spray tan:) As long as it is a good quality you won't look orange and you'll have color!!!!! My mom cannot tan (she is of the burn and peel family) and she loves a spray tan because it is the first time in her life she is able to look tan.
I follow the same pre-vacation treatment. Sometimes makes life a bit more stressful.:rotfl2: I also throw in a massage and adjustment if I am going to WDW because without that I get whiplash on the roller coasters (which I love going on) and then my vacation is ruined. :sad2: But I learned if I get those 2 things before I go....Rock n Roll, Big Thunder, Everest, here I come!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks Holly. We'll see how well it works. Jaide (oldest) is already getting some idea that something is going on since "mom is always on that cruise thingy on line!":lmao: I can not DIS at home around her anymore...at least until January and then she will be right there next to me reading posts and asking me to post smiley faces as well. She did get upset with me for not putting her as stitch (her favorite) and using minnie instead. Might need to change that!

Karen, My kittie, Ella, and Star could be related. Ella is all black too and she has the same exact eyes that Star has. Beautiful! I'll try to get a pic up, I only have her pic in my cell right now. I'll have to take more with the camera.

Love the Star kitty picture. Here's what my handsome 16 year old cat A.J. is doing right now:
AJSnoozing.jpg

He sleeps so much now that I hardly ever see his eyes. But I do remember they are amazing. They actually are different rings of color (blue, green, gold) blending into one another.

He's started doing the craziest thing. He'll sit in the middle of the floor and look down... and just sit there staring at the floor for the longest time. It's like he's trying to remember why he's there or where he's going. Can't help it but it reminds me of Holly's boss!! :rotfl:

Hi Julie, I think as we tried to work this out on the boards, we may have confused everyone....but you got it exactly right! There's some hope for all....I received your PM for High Tea and you're on that list.

As far as the master list of info for active DISers, if you want Lisa will take your update. OR if you want, don't do anything. I will contact you. I'm working with the POSTS list. Starting from the bottom up and I'm PMing everyone to get all their info for the master list. Then I give my updates to Lisa and she updates and gives her list to Noel, the master keeper of the master list. Noel will have current info, including last minute changes, for the Active DISer List. Many of us are GTY only and we want to participate in gifting and we're afraid we won't be able to find everyone.....so hence, begins the lists....I think we've got it worked out now. I just hope we didn't confuse too many people trying to get it worked out.

best,
deb

Ok, so from what I read in this and another post, we should wait for you to contact us, right?

Me too, pm´ed EllaEnchanted.

That sounds yummy! thank you for the recipe.

In Mexico it is different too. Most people who join the Military is because of hunger, as a friend of my father once said, it was the only way he could be assured of eating three meals a day!

Wow, you are so lucky!

Thank you...that made me laugh!! (If it were our cat, we'd be sure he was tracking a spider to eat.)
