Is anyone else ready to relocate their life to somewhere tropical after this winter? For some reason, this year has just been horrible (great ski season, but that only gets me so far in making it through the days). We started with the flooding, then the ice storm, then the wind storm and it just kept going. So, who is up for moving somewhere tropical? Those of you living in fabulous southern places...any good jobs around?:rotfl2:

I wish I had an answer for you!! Maybe someone will have a great suggestion.

We are looking for a "warm winter" place for retirement in 2014. In the summers (April to October) we have a lake house to live in but have no idea where we will live in the summer. After living in the SF Bay area for many years, we have pretty much decided we do not want to live here in retirement. I would love to live in Hawaii but that would be too far from the rest of the family.

Well, if I didn't have Tyler, I'd move to Tennessee. My brother lived in Knoxville for many years and a few years ago moved a tiny bit north of there to Clinton. Every time I've visited him, I absolutely love it! Sure, they still get snow and cold, but nothing like what we get here in Michigan.

ETA: And the cost of living is much lower there.

I am all up for any food marathons:cool1: isn't that why we try and lose a few pounds before the cruise...so we can gain it all back! :rotfl: But, I have never eaten at Palo's:sad1: is that bad to admit?! We have only done 1 other cruise (what I called a teaser) and it was a 3 day. There just wasn't enough time to do anything and Palo's meant too much planning for us, so we didn't go. I guess I will have to change that this time....so, it really is worth it? Gee, I feel like I should do another dcl cruise before this one just to learn some more things.:rotfl:

I think its VERY worth doing Palo!:) DH and I always do the brunch and dinner there and wish we could eat there even more often! Their filet mignon was wonderful last time, and the I love their 'fish soup' appetiser :) mmmmmmmm it's making me hungry now!:rolleyes1

Oh you guys haven't seen anything yet. I think DH opened and closed the brunch on the last cruise.

lol obviously another fan....he'll get on with my Dh like a house on fire!

I saw this too....I really like the idea of the pillowcase and the matting for a picture frame...will need to remember these!

I loved the idea of the photo mat too! Probably something they charge 25.00 for at WDW in the gift stores. Another one I noticed was that someone brought a mat along for their DIS photo and had all the DIS people sign it to frame the gorup photo.

We get 'freezing' fog, and everything can be just beautiful to look at when it has gone. Now 'frozen' fog sounds in a class of its own!!! Like something from scifi movie!

I am sure you all know about these (since there are so many "veteran" cruisers here) but I thought this was a fun new thread. I have gotten a few good ideas, just hope I remember them in 14 months (where is the day count at? have be gone below 400 yet?!). I did know about the pillow case one and had that done for my dd's. Someone listed about 20 characters that signed theirs, we only had about 10. Maybe the longer the cruise the more sigs? :confused3 Here is the link to the thread, http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1380936 Anyone else have others that are their favorites?

I saw this thread. I already have picture mats on my list of send ahead items.

I also want to remember to order the cookies at bed time. And coffee on the last night since no room service on the morning they have to kick me off. At least I can have coffee while getting ready to leave for that last breakfast.:sad1:

I'm the one who can start and finish a buffet!:rotfl: Jhn, on the other hand just enjoys the few things I have and makes me feel so greedy. Mmm, perhaps that is because I am at these types of meals:rotfl2:

So they deliver coffee on the last morning but nothing else?

I believe they have NO room service on the last morning - you would need to order the coffee the night before.....they want you out of the room as soon as possible.

Back to Mascot Talk!

I see your mascot and raise you Testuto! University of Maryland's Fierce Terrapin!!!

My brother goes to the Baltimore school and his mascot is a Retreiver, as in a golden retriever...

Ahem...I'll have to say, I'm starting to feel better about the whole anteater thing......:rotfl:

WHAT? Never eaten at Palo's? Ok, you must do brunch and dinner. I did the tea also with my girlfriend (we sent our DH's to the sports bar) and we both agreed it was 'ok' and we could pass next time. But the meals at Palo's were excellent, well worth the service fee and extra tip. The chocolate souffle was to die for (in my opinion). My plan is to go for bunch at least once and dinner twice (if they let us). :thumbsup2

No, if there was a microwave in the room, then that would be fine, but lukewarm coffee?

I am going to take my travel kettle and make some! John will go up for coffee from the machine and save on paying room service tips(!), but not too early! I can see me being around the ship on my own early mornings. It was like that at POFQ and BWV last year and I was a little:mad: then too!!!

Now tell me what wonderful husbands you all have who go up and get early morning coffee!:lmao:

Okay when it was all said and done we did get 3 inches of snow....it got so cold last night (5 degrees regular..no wind chill) that everything froze. Then this morning, 5am, we had fog. The news was saying FROZEN FOG WARNING....I don't even know what that is. I was imagining a great big block of ice I had to walk though outside.

Wow, 3" of snow...can't imagine (we'll I was born in NY, so I can imagine but I try not to). I have never hear of frozen fog....what the heck is that?!?! :confused3

We live in Knoxville, TN!!! The weather is nice, we have all 4 seasons but my heart is in FL. We were comparing cost of living and it is much lower here, which is nice. I Love it and it is close enough to drive to Disney and the Port, or the beach.

I have never heard of that either. I really feel for all of you that are having icky weather. I am hoping we will get a spring this year but it is supposed to be in the 90's this weekend so we may just go right into summer. That is one thing I wish we had was a change of seasons. We don't get those beautiful falls like the east coast.

How cool! My brother runs the Firestone on...I think it's Clinton Hwy. It's on the corner and I think there's a mall on the other side of the intersection. I haven't been to visit in 3 years, but am trying to take my son for a visit soon. My dad and stepmom are there about every other month....lucky retired folks! :goodvibes

Beautiful area you live in!

I have not done this before. I got it as a tip from another thread. Said that the coffee actually stays quite warm in the carafe it is brought in.:confused3
Maybe I should order one night before bed during the trip and see how it works.

Venetiaprincess:

I just have to comment on how great my day is! I got to work at 8:30 a.m., only had one small thing to do, then one of the lawyers I work for has been in a meeting since 9:00 a.m. and it is now 12:10 p.m.!!!!!!!! Nothing but DIS time all morning! :cool1: How great to get paid to play online! :cloud9: :woohoo:

(Now I probably just jinxed myself and he'll come out of his meeting immediately, with a major flurry of stuff for me to do.)
