I copied from the EB Thread:

Boy, their thread moves sloooooooooow. Now it's on 6892. And not too many banners in their siggies. Maybe they need better leadership?
Some newbie to the thread commented that there was too much to catch up on. Good thing he/she is going West and not East!

They bad mouthed our fearless leader, AuntyBrat. We LOVE our leader!!!

It has taken some time, I started catching up on page 458. Welcome to all that are new.

Sorry to hear about the illnesses and injuries. :grouphug:

It seems it has gotten quiet here. Off to fold laundry.

Ok - I tried this earlier in the thread and I can't believe there are so many posts out there. Life here got complicated - no need to explain, but I'm starting over and want to introduce myself and hopefully you can guide me to all the goodies of how to get into groups, etc. I just can't read all the stuff up til now - there is no time or energy for that.
This will be my third cruise and it's my husband's and my 10th anniversary celebration. We are in our mid 50's and so if there are others out there who are like us, let me know. I am the Disney fanatic of the family - I just wish I could live there - it's the place I find my peace and my joy.
So, let me know what to do next. I"m not the swiftest person when it comes to computers -- I've gotten confused and lost on this site already and had to change everything. Rather than going back over and figuring it out and remembering who contacted me - I'm starting fresh.
I don't have a cabin number yet. I was one of those people who's TA didn't get in on time because the lines were busy so I had two reservations. The one had me in the back of the ship which I didn't want so I'm now on a category 5 guaranty but no room assignment. I am very claustrophobic so I wanted a room with a deck that is clear and now find out I have to get a medical form to request that....I'm so annoyed that it became so complicated. I loved my cabin the last time - I was on deck 6 near the forward elevators - it was so perfect. So, we'll see what happens. Since it's such a long cruise I want to have a room I will like and be comfy in. Well, now it's time to start putting the money away right??? I look forward to getting tips on shore excursions and stuff. I did read you were thinking about doing wristbands -- that is a great idea - they did that on my last cruise and it was fun to walk by someone and be able to say hi.
I still find it so amazing to see so many posts so early in the game - I hope I can keep up :). (I am a very fun person - sorry if I sound overwhelmed - I was going to wait before I wrote in but I didn't want more time to pass - I have major oral surgery next week so I need pixie dust - I'll just keep focusing on going through the PC -- my dream - always wanted to do it!) I wanted to go to Disney at the end of April so I'd have something to look forward to but DH isn't interested...sigh. I've taken my sister and each of my grown daughters except one so I get to take the final daughter in October - :cheer2: . Well, I'm sure I'll get to know you all better as time goes by - -as long as I get the hang of staying on the boards :).

Hi Sandy
And welcome to the group from another newbie. I am 51, will be 52 during cruise, and my husband is 48, turning 50 just after the cruise. I am also the Disney fanatic in the family. DH usually could care less and says we go there way too much. Both my kids, 26 and 24, are also Disney nuts....so DH is out numbered!

It is hard to keep up with all the posts, I usually only have time two or three times a week to get caught up.

I had a nice Disney fix this weekend. I found out that the Disney Character Warehouse was in town, so asked DH to drive me up there (about 50 miles away). I stocked up on Pirate stuff and especially a great Pirate hat for him to wear on Pirate night. It's the soft kind that looks like a Captains hat with the bandana underneath. They also had some great stuff for under a $ each that would be great as gifts during the cruise. Didn't buy any yesterday but might have to go back! Oh Darn!!

This is our second cruise. The last time was for my daughter's high school graduation celebration way back in 1999. On that cruise I believe we were on deck 5. However, this time we're down in the bottom of the boat :sad2: in room 2010 and my parents who are going with us are in 2004. I'm just praying neither of these rooms are terribly noisey.

Wishing you loads of pixie dust for you surgery.:tink:

Tina

John-that is so cool! What a great Greek name...Kosta Koufos. My uncle is named Costa (Costantine). Do you think Kosta will be recruited for the Greek team?

iPods....well you'd think with a hubby an sales rep for Hewlett Packard we'd be more techy, but we're not. One iPod, one laptop, one desktop. But we do have a TON of printers (HP of course). Last count I believe there were 6...but his product lines are printers and imaging, so he needs to use them to know them. ;)

We have 4 iPods and 2 computers in our family. My iPod goes absolutely EVERYWhere with me.

OK....to give John1 a break from coming up with a new topic, what was everybody's first job and at what age?

Me: Age 14 (1984) -- worked in the cafeteria of a tiny college serving meals to the students. It was called Nazereth College, was primarily a nursing school, and was only a mile down the road from my mom's house so I walked. It had one main building for classrooms and the cafeteria, and one dorm wing attached. Another part of my job was to serve at banquets they also held there on weekends, then clean up afterwards and do dishes.

Yeah, really exciting....I know. Just another topic starter! :thumbsup2

These topics are GREAT! Helps us all to get to know each other so much better.

My first job was at F.W. Woolworths at the Concord Mall in Wilmington Delaware in 1971 as a cashier. Yikes! Now I've really dated myself.

I love Deck 2 Forward. I have stayed in this part of the ship 4 times and I have never had any noise at all. It is right below Sessions....which is a quiet bar...piano bar I think. Anyway......this is great are disembarking and so close the the Walt Theatre!! You will love this partr of the ship!!

My first job was 1971 as well!! How long did you live live in Delaware....you don't often meet people from DL. We have a second home in Southern Delaware....Slower, Lower, Delaware!!

Reminds me of the fortune my 4 yr old got the other night after chinese dinner: "You are considered lucky among the chosen ones" - he spend the rest of the night telling his older brothers (6 and 9): "I am the chosen one." Drove them nuts!

:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Better to have a name like that to live up to than some of the others I've come across over the years! For instance, I had a (girl) student whose name was Harley--yes, like the motorcycle. Unfortunately, she lived up to her name as long as I knew her, through 5th grade. Then there was another girl whose name was "Taylr" (not a typo). She had reading problems--what a surprise! Then there was the second grader named "Balthazar Avatar"--enough said! This was many years ago--long before "Apple" was a popular child's name. Maybe his parents were inspired by Frank Zappa, though!:hippie:

Wow, poor kids! What were their parents thinking?

Thank goodness the seventeen year olds went home at about 3am. They really are good kids and I feel so much better knowing they are in a safe place.

Stephen was in church this morning. When I hugged him his dad said he was VERY Brave....and then Stephen looked up at me and said "No Way, I was NOT Brave"..it was funny.

They stitched up his leg and then he did have to start the shots for rabies. He has to have 5 shots over the next 14 days. The shots are now in the arm and not in the stomach. They have not found the raccoon.

Poor Stephen, at least he is at home.

I just posted this over there . . .

That ought to get their juices flowing!:stir:

Would you dress like a Disney princess for your wedding?
| Posted Feb 23rd 2007 4:41PM by Jonathon Morgan
Filed under: High-end threads

Just what you always wanted for your wedding day: to be a princess. Thanks to a new initiative from Disney, that dream could become a reality. The company has recently introduced a series of dresses fashioned after their fictional cartoon heroines.

In a Wall Street Journal interview, designer Kristie Kelly says Cinderella is "classic glamour," Snow White has "sweet elegance," Ariel from The Little Mermaid has a "sultry allure" and is "comfortable showing her body," and Jasmine from Aladdin is "bohemian chic."

I'll never be able to watch The Little Mermaid the same way again.

Would you wear Disney on your wedding day?

Anyone else hear anything about this? It was a blip on aol's top headlines this am. There weren't any pictures. I would love to see what they are coming up with!

No way, even if I am a Disney lover, I wouldn´t wear a costume to my wedding.

Maybe if we started singing 100 bottle of beer song over and over again as they do, it would get our count up....but then again we have some more important things to say! Shall I go over and post that!! :rotfl:

:rotfl2:

Oh, I am having some fun . . .

Excuse me mate, did someone say "fluff"?

20420fluff.jpg

We've got plenty of our own, thank ye . . .

I'll try to remember to leave some on the ship for ye . . .:rotfl2:

:lmao:

I did read about this earlier today on miceage.com. I just Googled to see if I could find any pictures, but no luck.

However, I did find this link on one of the fashion webistes:
"Jacket for sleeping on public transportation"
http://www.styledash.com/2007/03/04/jacket-for-sleeping-on-public-transportation/

This might be something the folks taking the red-eye flights would want to look into. :)

For me, my days of taking red-eyes are over. It takes me at least 2 days to recover. I'll be coming in to FL at least one day early to adjust to the 3 hour time change!:scared1:

PS: I was once on a diving trip where a man in the group wore a cervical collar on the plane so he could sleep!

:rotfl:

About the first job, I used to go to my old school, beginning the year I finished high school to help the ladies who were in charge of doing the book sale. I had tons of fun, but I didn´t get paid, they didn´t either, since the idea is to build some sort of retirement house with the profit.

I was 18 the first year, and I remember thinking those ladies were soooo old (at around 30 - 36), they all had little children in school at the time. Well, last year I helped them again since my dd is now at that school and there come the children of those ladies, now about 18 years old, to help, and I say to myself "wow, they must think that I am so old and I am just 32! ". Now I know those ladies were really young :rotfl:

I don´t have an Ipod perse, I have a Creative Zen, that is a small thing and I only use it to workout, which means I haven´t used it since august when I had to lose a few pounds to fit into my cruise wear :lmao:

So do you think they will have a new show by the time we are on board? If so, which one do you hope they replace??

Me...I don't know. It's a tough one. Maybe a new Farewell Show? Or maybe the Golden Mickeys...but the Golden Mickeys has so much marketing in it (selling Golden Mickey's in the shop, etc) so I can't imagine them getting rid of that - but it sure would be great if they could update it. Maybe keep the theme but different script? Lisa

Ok, I hate to admit it but I got an idea from the EB thread.

Should I call MCO and see about getting a group rate? Do you think we can get one? I can try tomorrow. I will ask for some suites, some standard rooms, etc. Making sure they have a good cancellation policy b/c as some/most of you know - you can get MCO on hotwire dirt cheap most of the time. But anyway, maybe we can get some suites at a discount, which you can't get on hotwire. I'm thinking they might not give a group rate if we just say a bunch of people for a cruise. So I might say it is a family reunion - we are like family now right?? Does anyone have any experience in this? EB has some group rates already lined up for their trip.

I am happy to report they are just now discussing Bunko after we have ours all set and ready! See, they might do a lot of yapping over there on the EB thread but are they really getting anything done?? :rotfl:

Finally, if we do get a group at MCO, maybe we can arrange for a conference room for a Mimosa buffet breakfast in the morning? The ideas just keep coming! Lisa

Good afternoon, sorry, morning, Noel!!!

The internet is wonderful isn't it? Amazing we can all talk together, albeit at different times of our days! Yes, 4.29pm at the moment. We're watching Logan's Run on the TV. The city always reminds me of the Soarin pavilion.!!:)

I have always loved that movie and Michael York. For anyone who has not seen it here is a website to check it out:

http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0074812/

Ah, it is an oldish UK film, so you may not have ever seen it. It has become one of those cult films!

We should come up with a group name so we can book this as you suggest.

Living in the SF bay area, we get a few good ones to...

Female (like Tamale in sound)
Sequoia
Bark
Sierra (very popular in my daughters age group - 12)
Aqua

Hope I'm not offending anyone with kids with these names...;)

Karen

whew, I'm finally all caught up!! life and school got in the way of DISing, I know, completely unacceptable. I'll try to do better.

I got back the final quote....:cool1:
$396.00 plus tip from MCO to port (this includes a luggage van)

$453.00 plus tip from typical WDW resort.

They have 2 hummers in their fleet. I can reserve them now. Since there seems to be a large interest in getting to the port this way, please PM if you are interested, from where and how many in your party. Let's see what the numbers look like and we can go from there...

From the posts, and I realize none of this is set in stone....it looks like these are the ones who might be interested....and if I missed you, I am sorry:guilty: it is hard to catch everything in all these posts, but please PM me

Of course the question for some of you traveling without kids...would you mind kids in the Hummer with you or do we want to try and split into family one and adult one?
If there are enough people that def. want in, I have no problem reserving it now. It takes a cc number to hold the reservation, but you can cancel up to 1 week before. I would think if we set up a 9 or 10 am departure from MCO that would allow most red eyes to arrive and those sleeping there to get up and still get us to the port early. :cheer2:

Thoughts?

here is the description from the website:

ok, I think I"m too late to get a ride in the hummer, but someone else mentioned a bus? I'm down for that, just let me know!!
Good monring all:)
Lovely sunny day here today at the moment :)

Another very avid reader here (what do you expect from a librarian?;)) For the last couple of years I've been working in a school so have read a lot of teenager's books, and that's been great but now I'm back to reading books for grown ups. I love Anita Shreve's books and have just read 'The Last Time they Met' which made me cry. Also loved The Time Traveller's Wife. I might try 'the Historian' next....

I shall be using that library on the Magic that's for sure!
Well, I work in a bookstore so I ALWAYS have a book going. currently , I'm rereading Lynn Kurland. she writes cheesy romance novels, mostly set in the middle ages. heavy on characters and plot, but completely pg rated.
I'm also listening to "Plain Truth" by Jodi Picoult on my ipod at work in the mornings. it's good. I've read most of her stuff, and am saving the ARC I have of "19 Minutes" for my trip next week.
"Time Traveller's Wife" was the BEST book I read last year. it's now definitly on the top 10 list of fave books ever!!

Ok - I finally was able to get the sizes on the bracelets....

small - 18cm..7 1/16 inches..."generally fits preschoolers only"

medium - 20cm..7 7/8 inches..."fits 80% of population, and preferred size. Fits almost all school age children, women, and even most men. May be streched to a large size if necessary"

large - 21cm..8 1/14 inches..."generally is only required for 5-10% of population and would not be a good size for a mix of the general population"

That being said.....below is who I have on the list and what sizes were requested....let me know if you change your minds, or if you want to be added to the list. I WILL try to get a price this weekend from the company and then pass on the info to you.

Let me know if you have any ?s.

psst, I"ll pm you too, but could you add me to the list? 2 mediums and 2 larges?

Great idea!!
I'm down for this too. just convinced my mom to fly in the day before and stay at MCO and then either hop on a party bus with you fine folks or rent a car to get to the port. so any little bit helps!

on the the questions of the day(s) that I've missed:

let's see, 3 people in my house and we have 3 nano's in black, red (mine) and pink, plus a shuffle and my old U2 ipod that I killed last year. love them!!

first job: I worked as a receptionist at my best friend's mom's nail salon. 2 hours everyday after school and a few hours on saturdays. made a whopping $50 a week, until she fired me!! but she's still like a 2nd mom to me, and 10+ years later, I still drive my mom 40 min to her shop every other Saturday.

pets:
I currrently have 2 dogs in my house, but neither of them are really mine. Kate is an 11 yr old Rottie, she's not doing well though, her hips have gooten really bad and she's now arthritic. she started off as my brother's dog, but eventually she had to move in with us. Sadie is about 3, another rottie. she's my dad's dog. she was a rescue, spent the first year of her life in a small kennel, never got let out or fed much. needless to say she's got food issues now, but she's a sweet girl.
I had 2 dalmatians, a brother and a sister, but they died last summer and the summer before that. I"m still really bummed about losing them, we got them in 1992 and they were MY dogs.
but I'm ready for a new friend and am in the process of trying to adopt on of these sweetieshttp://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=7580211

wow, this is going to be one looong post!

We should come up with a group name so we can book this as you suggest.

Noel

Would you travel agent be good to do this?

A group name...let's think....the Roy Family Reunion?? Creative Memories conference?? Westbound Cruisers? Anyone??

Besides babysitting, my earliest summer job was at an ice cream parlor. That was back when I could actually eat the stuff and not gain an ounce. Then I worked for a couple of years (during high school) in the kitchen of the local hospital. I did some food prep, served meals, and did lots and lots of dishes. Maybe that's why I hate washing dishes now. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I actually liked that job, though, because it paid slightly more than minimum wage, so I thought I was rich.

My first job was also in a ice cream and sandwich shop in Pleasant Hill called Rocky Road Junction. They had ice cream from Maryanne's in Santa Cruz and it was GREAT!!! I was 16. :thumbsup2

Then I moved on to Retail and worked at Macy's (before it was federated) and then Saks Fifth Avenue in Monterey and then Emprioum-Capwell's for about 5 years. I was in the program to become a buyer and the company filed chapter 11.:furious:

How about the "Thieves" family?

Hi all,
I'm still here, reading and reading but then too tired to post ;) I've been working a lot of overtime, have to pay for my DD's wedding in May and then this cruise! I was reading the posts about the trips some of you have had to the spa or the Californian vineyards , and am very envious! So today, after work, I went to the Vintages section at the LCBO store near work and purchased a few bottles of wine highlighted in the latest Vintages magazine. Thought I'd have the house to myself for the day so opened up 3 bottles of wine, poured a little in 3 glasses and got a plate ready with bread, crackers and cheese. Thought I'd have my own private little wine and cheese tasting :cloud9: I did have a moment when I thought how funny this would look if any one stopped in, like my parents :scared1: (I'm almost 50, can you believe I still worry about that!) Anyway, a few sips in and sure enough my DD and her fiance stop in :rotfl: So I had to explain it was just a wine TASTING, really, I wasn't going to polish off all 3 bottles  Had to get out my Vintages magazine to prove it really was a planned little occasion LOL. Well at least my DD joined in and her fiance??? Well , not sure, but I think he believed me ! By the way, I still can't decide which I like best!
Kathe

Kathe,

What did you have and what did you pair it with?

Karen, owns a wine shop and wife of been2marceline!
