Thanks everyone, I am just sitting here crying and reading your responses. I promise to smile and be happy soon. This is just a particularly hard time.

My son just called me to pick him up at school, he says he is sick. I can't tell you how many times he has called me to pick him up at school in the last two months. Thanks for listening.

poor thing. How old is he?

One of my co-worker's lost her husband to skin cancer just about two years ago. He was 42, she has two children who are now 13 and 11. A girl and a boy. It has taken some time but he too was missing a lot of school, being sick, etc. They seem now to be healing and doing better.

I'm bringing them to trade with the crew on pin trading nights.
Thanks - I think we will do the same.

Hi Lisa
Just to throw my two cents in....

A couple of months before my mum passed, my DH and I took her for a weeks holiday...she was in a wheelchair sometimes and would walk sometimes, but was very weak and could not go far or go quickly. We knew she would be that way, so we didn't mind, but we were not able to do anything else but look after her (this was pre-kids). It was not a holiday for anybody really.
We were stressed and she was upset that she was a burden. We only went to a beach in Northern Australia that we had visited many times, so we didnt feel we missed anything.

You have spent so much time and money and energy for this unique cruise, you should think about what experiences and memories you want from this holiday, as well as the rest of your family. You don't want the holiday, or your memories, ruined with any regrets or lingering resentment about the sort of holiday you could have had without your MIL. Especially if your DH has to leave the cruise early.

Having said all that, I completely understand the problems you are facing. I too would not have been able to leave my mum behind (esp. as my Dad had just passed before that), and I would have had a worse time wondering how she was whilst we were away.

A difficult decision to make, i know. You can only do what feels true in your heart.
Anyway, JMHO....
:flower3:
Thank you for the advice. We found out we probably could get an accessible room for her, but unfortunately it is pretty expensive ($5600 for one person). Also, it would be on a different floor on the other side of the ship...I think we will be passing on having her come. I feel pretty guilty, but do need to focus on our four boys and DH. We really need the time together.
I've already got my syringes packed and ready. :thumbsup2 I'm not kidding either.
I hear ya! We'll get them when they are looped from the shots around the ship!

It is so good you decided to come on this cruise. You and your children deserve happiness, and it will come one day more consistantly. You are so strong.
Lisa

Deborah, I'm so sorry.

Good morning all.

Today is SHOTS day. :scared1:

Get to go to the Health Unit here and get our shots this afternoon. Haven't really told the girls about this yet. Just that Daddy will be picking them up from Daycare early today.

And oh my god is it snowing here!!! :scared1: :sad2: :scared1: :scared1:

I just got the lawn empty of snow and right now it is coming down in thick!!!

I walked the girls to school/daycare this morning and it was cold, but I just looked outside and it is ugly out there.

Oh geez this doesn't look like it is going to be a great day at all ....:sad1: :sad1:

what is this shots business?

I wouldn't worry. I asked the doctor and she said don't do it and then I asked Jon's aunt who is the travel writer for LA TIMES and she said not to worry. You are closer than me so I wouldn't worry.

Here, we fill out a form saying where we are going and what we are doing and give it to our Health Unit. The Health nurse then looks at where you are going and gives you recommendations on what shots you should/could take.

Our Health Nurse said that she would recommend the Hep A shots and the girls all have their tetanus shots up to date.

So today is Hep A shots for everyone.

Lisa, please don't feel guilty. Your boys are as important to you, if not the most important. You and your DH tried to make it work. Maybe it is just not meant to happen. I think you are an amazing mom and your boys will always remember this special trip with their mom and dad.

Tammy, my heart hurts for you and your kids. Losing a loved one so suddenly takes lots of time to get over, if we really ever "get over" it. I lost my mom very suddenly in Aug. I still relive that phone call almost daily. And I think the only thing worse would be the loss of my DH.
Life is made up of laughter and tears. This trip will help us all learn to laugh again.  to you and your son and daughter.

Lisa - don't feel guilty about this trip....make this a fantastic trip for the 6 of you. You can always plan a quick get away w/ Mom a few months after you get back (like a weekend away).
