John, which title are you reading?

Pj

Ps. hope things are going well today with Manuel. He is in my thoughts today.

The Venetian Betrayal

Hey John.....thinking of you and Manuel today too! Let us know how it goes after you find out. Sending you positive prayers, pixie dust and hugs!

Shure.

Woody

Wonder who else got this?

John - I know you probably wont see this today, but know that you and your brother are in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us informed and know we're here for you.

Don McLean wrote and sang American Pie. I went to his concert a few years ago, and really enjoyed it.

Anyone remember his album cover with the (American, U.S., U.S.A.) flag painted on his thumb? Not the whole flag, just some stars and stripes.

Woody

I have it.

G'Mornin' John.

She did huh? Hmmmmm. She is telling all of my secrets. :lmao:

Any news yet?:grouphug:

Hopefully there are no Mets.

Not much time to do anything other than check in quickly and say good morning. Thank you to all of you once again for your prayers and thoughts.

They removed a large portion of my brother's transverse colon yesterday, along with part of the small intestine where it had crossed over. They also removed his appendix. It was a fairly large tumor. It was cancerous of course, but his liver looked good, although the lymph nodes looked enlarged according to the surgeon. In his estimation it was a 3-b cancer.

He will be in the hospital 7-10 days, and then off work (he is a teacher) for 6 weeks so this ends the school year for him. After about 4 weeks they will start chemo, and he has a good chance of full recovery, but with cancer you never know. He was in surgical ICU all day yesterday and sedated because of all the weight he carries.

Thanks again everyone.

Thanks for the update John. That was a loing day and a big op for your brother.

Looks like he does have a good chance of full recovery as his liver was ok.

Will keep praying and trust his recovery is speedy.

I have added more shirt variations.

Nan had asked for a shirt without wording so that appears.

There are shirts with wording on the front, on the back and no wording at all/

I also added tote bags.

Again, this works just like Cafe Press, you just order the size and color you want, though you may want to consider that a color might bleed through the graphics, but the choice is yours.

Again these are not marked up in anyway.

So I read your post to DH and he said... "But what kind of memories?":lmao: To answer Nan's question, we have traveled with her regularily and she is a lot of fun. The only issue is that she is not independent, both physically and emotionally. So that can be a bit draining. Again, feel so selfish as I know there will be a lot of really good memories....but with all 4 boys and her in one cabin, we might have some not so good memories we will need to deal with. Lisa

Hi Lisa
Just to throw my two cents in....

A couple of months before my mum passed, my DH and I took her for a weeks holiday...she was in a wheelchair sometimes and would walk sometimes, but was very weak and could not go far or go quickly. We knew she would be that way, so we didn't mind, but we were not able to do anything else but look after her (this was pre-kids). It was not a holiday for anybody really.
We were stressed and she was upset that she was a burden. We only went to a beach in Northern Australia that we had visited many times, so we didnt feel we missed anything.

You have spent so much time and money and energy for this unique cruise, you should think about what experiences and memories you want from this holiday, as well as the rest of your family. You don't want the holiday, or your memories, ruined with any regrets or lingering resentment about the sort of holiday you could have had without your MIL. Especially if your DH has to leave the cruise early.

Having said all that, I completely understand the problems you are facing. I too would not have been able to leave my mum behind (esp. as my Dad had just passed before that), and I would have had a worse time wondering how she was whilst we were away.

A difficult decision to make, i know. You can only do what feels true in your heart.
Anyway, JMHO....
:flower3:

I'm going to try ONCE again to catch up. Life sure gets in your way. But I did read some very, VERY odd posts about evil and mean nurses....DO YOU ALL SEE MY SIGNATURE?? DO YOU SEE THE LITTLE WHITE HAT ON MY HEAD???

Also, we have other nurses on board. So I'd be very, very careful with what you say about nurses or we just might bring some shots on board and not the type Ian is talking about!!

Lisa ( laughing in an evil manner)

I've already got my syringes packed and ready. :thumbsup2 I'm not kidding either.

Here's a cute lesson on Chicagoese......and it's SO true!!!

Chicagoese is an English dialect spoken only by da good guys.

1. Grachki (grach'-key): Chicagoese for "garage key" as in, "Yo, Theresa, waja do wit da grachki? Howmy supposta cut da grass if I don't git intada grach?"Chicago speech, as in "Da Bears" or "Da Mare" -- the latter denoting Richard M. Daley, or Richie, as he's often called.</SPAN>< /o:p></B>

4. Jewels: Not family heirlooms or a tender body region, but a popular name for one of the region's dominant grocery store chains. "I'm goin' to the Jewels to pick up some sassage."

5. Field's: Marshall Field, a prominent Chicago department store. Also Carson Pirie Scott, another major department store chain, is simply called " Carson 's."

6. Tree: The number between two and four. "We were lucky dat we only got tree inches of snow da udder night."

7. Over by dere: Translates to "over by there," a way of emphasizing a site presumed familiar to the listener. As in, "I got the sassage at the Jewels down on Kedzie, over by dere."

8. Kaminski Park : The mispronounced name of the ballpark where the Chicago White Sox (da Sox) play baseball. Comiskey Park was renamed U.S. Cellular Field (da Cell)

9. Frunchroom: As in, "Get outta da frunchroom wit dose muddy shoes." It's not the "parlor." It's not the "living room." In the land of the bungalow, it's the "frunchroom," a named derived, linguists believe, from "front room."

10. Use: Not the verb, but the plural pronoun 'you!' "Where use goin'?"

11. Downtown: Anywhere near The Lake, south of The Zoo (Lincoln Park Zoo)

and north of Soldier Field.

12. The Lake: Lake Michigan (What other lake is there?) It's often used by local weathermen, "cooler by The Lake."

14. Braht: Short for Bratwurst. "Gimme a braht wit kraut."

15. Goes: Past or present tense of the verb "say." For example, "Den he goes, 'I like this place'!"

16. Guys: Used when addressing two or more people, regardless of each individual's gender.

17. Pop: A soft drink. Don't say "soda" in this town. "Do ya wanna canna pop?"

18. Sliders: Nickname for hamburgers from White Castle , a popular Midwestern burger chain. "Dose sliders I had last night gave me da runs."

19.. The Taste: The Taste of Chicago Festival, a huge extravaganza in Grant Park featuring samples of Chicagoland cuisine which takes place each year around the Fourth of July holiday.

20. "Jeetyet?": Translates to, "Did you eat yet?"

21. Winter and Construction: Punch line to the joke, "What are the two seasons in Chicago ?"

22. Cuppa Too-Tree: is Chicagoese for "a couple, two, three" which really means "a few." For example, "Hey Mike, dere any beerz left in da cooler over by dere?"

"Yeh, a cuppa too-tree."

23. 588-2300: Everyone in Chicago knows this commercial jingle and the carpet company you'll get if you call that number -- Empire!

24. Junk Dror: You will usually find the 'junk drawer' in the kitchen filled to the brim with miscellaneous, but very important, junk.

25. Southern Illinois : Anything south of I-80. This is where Smothers' is from....

26. Expressways: The Interstates in the immediate Chicagoland area are usually known just by their 'name' and not their Interstate number: the Dan Ryan ("da Ryan"), the Stevenson, the Kennedy (da "Kennedy"), the Eisenhower (da "Ike"), and the Edens (just "Edens" but Da Edens" is acceptable).

27. Gym Shoes: The rest of the country may refer to them as sneakers or running shoes but Chicagoans will always call them gym shoes!

Downtown is the "Loop" because the streetcars made a loop downtown.

A little bit of trivia for ya, It's called the Windy City not because it's breeezy, but because of the politicians. :rotfl:

Have a look at this tropical fish. It is called a Mickey Mouse Platy.:)

Good Morning Everyone!
Not too long to go now!!!!!!!:cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: :cool1:

Time to get serious! :laundy:

To JHalkias: I am happy to hear that the prognosis for your brother is good. I will keep him in my prayers.

I have had a horrible weekend, too much to get into, but they have started the preliminary hearing for the guy who killed my husband and the testimony is being splashed all over the headlines here and everyone is asking me about it. The grand jury is convening in May, which will hear this case I assume, unless it gets some put off for some reason. We will be gone starting May 9th. I just want to avoid as much of the media exposure for now because I don't think that we are strong enough for it yet.

I have also jammed my thumb and it hurts!! It turned a bit blue and is swollen. It is a little better this morning, but all the movement from typing does make it hurt a bit.

I want to get on this cruise and laugh and smile. I think that having some fun will help me more than anything.

Tammy

This must be so very hard for you Tammy. The cruise will be timely and I hope we can help you have some fun away from all the unhappy, unwelcome attention.

Sorry about your thumb. Does it need an x-ray?

John, thanks for updating us. We'll continue to keep Manuel in our prayers.

Tammy, what a horrible thing to have to continue to go through. I hope and pray everything is settled quickly and you guys can focus on the great time we are all going to have on this trip!

I don't know, I have a Dr's appt. today, a check up on the meds that she prescribed for sleeping and depression. I am going to ask about the xray and about any immunizations that we might need for this trip.

Thanks, it is horrific. I am meeting with the DA on Friday morning and I am not looking forward to it. I haven't even had the courage to read the news reports, but I guess I should, so I can answer people's questions. So far I have just said that I haven't read it. I have heard reports of people who were there.

Ok, I have spoken with the Palo Specialist I will be sending in the spread sheet for the palo brunches today w/ the updated contacts who have volunteered.

For those who wanted Dinner, we were unable to fill the room for even one dinner, please please please head to the Palo reservations once onboard the ship and put in a reqest for dinner.

Pj
