I'm going to try ONCE again to catch up. Life sure gets in your way. But I did read some very, VERY odd posts about evil and mean nurses....DO YOU ALL SEE MY SIGNATURE?? DO YOU SEE THE LITTLE WHITE HAT ON MY HEAD???

Also, we have other nurses on board. So I'd be very, very careful with what you say about nurses or we just might bring some shots on board and not the type Ian is talking about!!

Lisa ( laughing in an evil manner)

Hi All.....I was just checking in to see if John1 posted any news about his brother. I didn't see anything and I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news. Well, let's hope that no news is good news and that it all went well.

John, we're thinking about you.....still got you and your family in our prayers!

Nan, drove in your neighborhood today. We had to go to my sister who lives in Willow Glen so we drove by our old house. We also visited our cat. Our neighbor adopted him when we moved to Woodside. It was very sad...but we tried to bring him to our new house and he was just too old to make the move. He jumped off the balcony on the second floor and kept sneaking outside. Too many racoons...he wouldn't have lasted. So our neighbor whom he loved and she loved him offered to adopt him. It was great to see him. He was our first "baby." Got him after being married for a couple years. I hadn't seen him for about a year. He started purring when I held him...almost made me cry.

Have pity on the Queen from the South. I have spent my day taking care of two old sick people. At least you can be a little nice to me :goodvibes :goodvibes

crap she pulled the sympathy card, I'm screwed. okay you can have whatever you want, just charge it to my room.:lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

To Her Royal Highness... Queen of the South...

Please excuse the Queen of the West for her behavior during the past few days... it seems that she may be PMSing and her alter ego has decided to come through and make herself known...

Guilt will not work... the QOW is very good at getting around that...

It is our greatest hope that everyone you are caring for recovers well and that your Kingdom is Prospering.

We look forwards to joining you on your Journey from Kingdom to Kingdom through the Isthmus of Merry....

Sending great regards...

Michelle
Queen of the East princess:

P.S. Anyone hear from Sir Steven lately??? I believe we sent him out to slay some dragons and he has not been corresponding... Should we worry or should we send out the rest of the Knights to do a search of the Royal Brewery?

Here's a cute lesson on Chicagoese......and it's SO true!!!

Chicagoese is an English dialect spoken only by da good guys.

1. Grachki (grach'-key): Chicagoese for "garage key" as in, "Yo, Theresa, waja do wit da grachki? Howmy supposta cut da grass if I don't git intada grach?"Chicago speech, as in "Da Bears" or "Da Mare" -- the latter denoting Richard M. Daley, or Richie, as he's often called.</SPAN>< /o:p></B>

4. Jewels: Not family heirlooms or a tender body region, but a popular name for one of the region's dominant grocery store chains. "I'm goin' to the Jewels to pick up some sassage."

5. Field's: Marshall Field, a prominent Chicago department store. Also Carson Pirie Scott, another major department store chain, is simply called " Carson 's."

6. Tree: The number between two and four. "We were lucky dat we only got tree inches of snow da udder night."

7. Over by dere: Translates to "over by there," a way of emphasizing a site presumed familiar to the listener. As in, "I got the sassage at the Jewels down on Kedzie, over by dere."

8. Kaminski Park : The mispronounced name of the ballpark where the Chicago White Sox (da Sox) play baseball. Comiskey Park was renamed U.S. Cellular Field (da Cell)

9. Frunchroom: As in, "Get outta da frunchroom wit dose muddy shoes." It's not the "parlor." It's not the "living room." In the land of the bungalow, it's the "frunchroom," a named derived, linguists believe, from "front room."

10. Use: Not the verb, but the plural pronoun 'you!' "Where use goin'?"

11. Downtown: Anywhere near The Lake, south of The Zoo (Lincoln Park Zoo)

and north of Soldier Field.

12. The Lake: Lake Michigan (What other lake is there?) It's often used by local weathermen, "cooler by The Lake."

14. Braht: Short for Bratwurst. "Gimme a braht wit kraut."

15. Goes: Past or present tense of the verb "say." For example, "Den he goes, 'I like this place'!"

16. Guys: Used when addressing two or more people, regardless of each individual's gender.

17. Pop: A soft drink. Don't say "soda" in this town. "Do ya wanna canna pop?"

18. Sliders: Nickname for hamburgers from White Castle , a popular Midwestern burger chain. "Dose sliders I had last night gave me da runs."

19.. The Taste: The Taste of Chicago Festival, a huge extravaganza in Grant Park featuring samples of Chicagoland cuisine which takes place each year around the Fourth of July holiday.

20. "Jeetyet?": Translates to, "Did you eat yet?"

21. Winter and Construction: Punch line to the joke, "What are the two seasons in Chicago ?"

22. Cuppa Too-Tree: is Chicagoese for "a couple, two, three" which really means "a few." For example, "Hey Mike, dere any beerz left in da cooler over by dere?"

"Yeh, a cuppa too-tree."

23. 588-2300: Everyone in Chicago knows this commercial jingle and the carpet company you'll get if you call that number -- Empire!

24. Junk Dror: You will usually find the 'junk drawer' in the kitchen filled to the brim with miscellaneous, but very important, junk.

25. Southern Illinois : Anything south of I-80. This is where Smothers' is from....

26. Expressways: The Interstates in the immediate Chicagoland area are usually known just by their 'name' and not their Interstate number: the Dan Ryan ("da Ryan"), the Stevenson, the Kennedy (da "Kennedy"), the Eisenhower (da "Ike"), and the Edens (just "Edens" but Da Edens" is acceptable).

27. Gym Shoes: The rest of the country may refer to them as sneakers or running shoes but Chicagoans will always call them gym shoes!

DH and I dated 7 years before we got married. He proposed at the MK during Wishes. He asked me to make his wish come true.

So I turned 24 last Thursday. I got a Dyson for my birthday and it is amazing. It looks like a space tool to DH and he likes using it too. I am getting a new pair of shoes too!!! They are waterproof Merrels. and look alot like the ones I have on the pic above. They will definatly be on the cruise too.:cheer2:

I'll email their teachers this week and start to find out the details. I'm an over planner so I wanna know. My kids are on spring break this week, so perhaps I won't hear from the teachers until next week.

That sounds good. Just let me know when you know.:)

We are thinking about adding MIL to our cabins. Good and bad with it. She had a stroke in 2002 so sometimes has a lot of difficulty getting around. Not sure how DCL handles/takes care of wheelchairs and such. Any one have some experience/advice? Obviously it is way to late to get a special room. I am wondering if she'd be able to shower in the spa...she won't be able to get in the tub. Also, will they give you any special boarding/debarking at ports? I get a bit anxious not being able to get up and go. I hope it works out. DH is really excited about the kids spending time with her. At this time, we can add another person to the cabin.
I've got some mixed feelings. She is great fun to hang out with, just is not independent.

Anybody remember the records that were colored and had pictures on them? I still have a bunch of them.

I remember colored records, but don't remember records with pictures. Were the pictures part of the vinyl? Sounds cool!

Lisa, my DM has mobility & balance issues and in Jan 04 they had her board right after the Cat 1-3 guests and she waited in a special zone, but in October 07 no special consideration was given. We had to wait until our number was called or if she had not been able/wanted to stand for the wait in line, had to wait until everyone in line had boarded, the CM at the mickey ears, told her to come right after the group in front of our number and she would put DM right through at that point. Once on board the servers was great with helping with her walker, storing it during meals and making sure she had it to leave the dinning rooms. She was not required to attend the safety drill 04, but was in 07.

I am finally caught up...yeah, for the next 5 minutes. I'm scared to go to sleep :scared1: What am I going to wake up to??? Thread nbr 11 I'm thinking.

Memories came flooding back w/ all the talk about concerts & actors. I'm able to share some..Herman's Hermits, The Who, The Monkees, Air Supply. I was surprised that nobody mentioned Rush. Group I've seen the most - Def Leppard.

John - hope the surgery went well...prayers continued to go your way.

Needle story.....My family almost didn't get to go to Africa in '79 b/c of me - I kept trying to run away from the nurse. Finally stopped when my dad threatened to spank me. Good thing....we did get to go :goodvibes Now I am finally better about needles....when they have to take blood from me they have to use the butterfly needle and I can't watch at all.

On that note---I'm off to bed. Can't believe the weekend is over already.

Thanks Pj. When we took her on a RCCL cruise, she ended up in the wheelchair most of the time. She is paralized on her left side, so has major difficulty walking, although on land can do so with her cane for short distances. Whenever we go anywhere that entails walking, we bring the wheelchair. I was afraid that they might not give special consideration, which for a completely obsessive person like myself, this will be challenging. I think I will still plan on coming to the port early, and she can just sit while we stand in line (I recall you stand in line at some point)? Also, the whole safety drill is stressful enough with the 4 boys...argg.

Last cruise (RCCL), her other son (that lives with her) came too so he was really her care taker. There are so many pluses and any minus that I think about seems trivial and makes me feel shallow (like not being able to get the spot I want on CC because I will need to leave slowly.) I had hoped that DCL would allow some special wheelchair access, although I could see how it could get out-of-hand.

My first cruise in 2004, my sister and I both had broken feet! We did get a handicapped cabin, which was wonderful. Maybe you could check as I think they are often given as upgrades if there's no one who actually needs it. The reason I say that is that it was offered to us in 2005 when we were in a Cat. 6 that was very noisy. The bathroom is huge, all tile, you can roll a wheelchair into the shower area, there's a built-in seat and the shower is telephone style. The cabin is very big, has a walk-in closet where you could store a wheel chair (that's what I did). My sister had an ECV and there was enough space to have it in the room sitting out and we could still get around. The balcony is almost 3X the size of a regular balcony BUT it is solid steel, not plexiglass, so you can't see through it.

We were the very first ones on the ship and among the first off at debarkation. Maybe we got that treatment because there were 2 of us in a party of 4 that were handicapped.

The dining room staff was very helpful, as was said before. The hard thing for me was that I was wheeling myself around (no one to push me) even the widest doors had raised thresholds and I wasn't strong enough to wheel myself over them. I would have to wait until someone came by and would push me over, but I never had to wait long.

Ok- I have to go to bed, have to work at 7am. Please try not to post 75 pages tonight!:rotfl: But if you do leave bread crumbs to the new thread for me.:thumbsup2 :rotfl2:
