My first cruise in 2004, my sister and I both had broken feet! We did get a handicapped cabin, which was wonderful. Maybe you could check as I think they are often given as upgrades if there's no one who actually needs it. The reason I say that is that it was offered to us in 2005 when we were in a Cat. 6 that was very noisy. The bathroom is huge, all tile, you can roll a wheelchair into the shower area, there's a built-in seat and the shower is telephone style. The cabin is very big, has a walk-in closet where you could store a wheel chair (that's what I did). My sister had an ECV and there was enough space to have it in the room sitting out and we could still get around. The balcony is almost 3X the size of a regular balcony BUT it is solid steel, not plexiglass, so you can't see through it.

We were the very first ones on the ship and among the first off at debarkation. Maybe we got that treatment because there were 2 of us in a party of 4 that were handicapped.

The dining room staff was very helpful, as was said before. The hard thing for me was that I was wheeling myself around (no one to push me) even the widest doors had raised thresholds and I wasn't strong enough to wheel myself over them. I would have to wait until someone came by and would push me over, but I never had to wait long.
Thanks for the input. I wonder if they changed how the handle this after 2005, given Pjs' comments. MIL was going to think about it today (as we asked her to come up with some of the cost to add her, although we will be paying the majority). It costs $1800 to add her, plus airfare, etc.

Thanks Pj. There are so many pluses and any minus that I think about seems trivial and makes me feel shallow (like not being able to get the spot I want on CC because I will need to leave slowly.) I had hoped that DCL would allow some special wheelchair access, although I could see how it could get out-of-hand.

Lisa

That reminded me that they have sand wheelchairs that you can use--you just have to reserve one. The cast members were wonderful to me on CC. I didn't get a special wheelchair, but they helped me get on and off the tram, and pushed me to a shady spot at the adult beach. And get this...2 strong young guys wheeled me up to the ladies room, waited for me and wheeled me back! Everyone was very helpful.

Wow, that all sounds great! I wish we could get a hold of her...I'm anxious to know one way or the other. She isn't answering her phone right now. I think when she is on-line, she can't hear the phone.

OK, I WENT TO MAKE A SANDWICH AND 30 PAGES WENT BY....

Made it up to the bay area and am doing a full load of lectures this week, so quick post and off to lay in bed and watch PBS.

So here's a question of the day: What onboard/ship activities are you most looking forward to?.

the food, the food, the art of entertaining, watching 20 movies, excercise time without worrying about what needs to be done and some really peaceful time working on my two books.

Good reason to celebrate! Did the kids understand the significance?
Woody

The older one did (going to high school) but not DD, she was just excited to go out.

Just a reminder....2nd part of Sense & Sensibility is on at 9pm

Ready and very worried about the girls... even though I've seen it 10 times.

Oh Woody... I knew I liked you!!!

Of course I just show up to see what the color of Todd's hair is this time...
The last time I saw Todd, his hair was black with white roots.

I once saw him with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. Cool!

Since no one like the other pictures, I thought this one was better. This is Ethan and Brook outside California Adventure. Our last name starts with N.

Wow, a cool mom. So much better than a mean mom!

Woody

ok, I'm hurt. This mean mom makes sure her children are exposed to travel. We've seen 4 of the 5 Disney resorts so far and plan on the last Toyko in 2010. So I guess this mean mom also has a cool side huh?

I didn't even know there was such a thing. Let us know how it worked if you use one. My Christmas gift to Peg was a BIG Sur la Table gift card...she spent it within the week! :lmao:

I looked but didn't find anything that I decided to use. I may just hold them for now and not worry about it. Or maybe craigs list them.

YAAAA! What she said!!!!

I'm going to try ONCE again to catch up. Life sure gets in your way. But I did read some very, VERY odd posts about evil and mean nurses....DO YOU ALL SEE MY SIGNATURE?? DO YOU SEE THE LITTLE WHITE HAT ON MY HEAD???

Also, we have other nurses on board. So I'd be very, very careful with what you say about nurses or we just might bring some shots on board and not the type Ian is talking about!!

Lisa ( laughing in an evil manner)

you aren't evil. I know what your weakness is.....

Shoes.

The original line is "thank you SIR may I have another" from this movie......anyone?????
Not a movie, but originally in Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens. Then much later in Animal House.

Woody

Nan, drove in your neighborhood today. We had to go to my sister who lives in Willow Glen so we drove by our old house. We also visited our cat. Our neighbor adopted him when we moved to Woodside. It was very sad...but we tried to bring him to our new house and he was just too old to make the move. He jumped off the balcony on the second floor and kept sneaking outside. Too many racoons...he wouldn't have lasted. So our neighbor whom he loved and she loved him offered to adopt him. It was great to see him. He was our first "baby." Got him after being married for a couple years. I hadn't seen him for about a year. He started purring when I held him...almost made me cry.

Lisa

silly girl you should have stopped by our place. tell me that you at least stalked by and saw my lovely weeds that have taken the place of my tulips :lmao: You are on the other side of the school from us, I tried to see your house the other day, but not on my side, haven't made it out the other side since we last talked.

To Her Royal Highness... Queen of the South...

Please excuse the Queen of the West for her behavior during the past few days... it seems that she may be PMSing and her alter ego has decided to come through and make herself known...

Guilt will not work... the QOW is very good at getting around that...

It is our greatest hope that everyone you are caring for recovers well and that your Kingdom is Prospering.

We look forwards to joining you on your Journey from Kingdom to Kingdom through the Isthmus of Merry....

Sending great regards...

Michelle
Queen of the East princess:

P.S. Anyone hear from Sir Steven lately??? I believe we sent him out to slay some dragons and he has not been corresponding... Should we worry or should we send out the rest of the Knights to do a search of the Royal Brewery?

okay the rest of you Queens, I got the loot for the royal fish stuff and now more than ever I really want some help packing it, so please let me know who I can mail some too, they are heavy in mass....:scared1:

See I did feel guilty I finally got the loot. I think it was her ploy to motivate me...
