Has anyone who used MaxPass gotten a FastPass through the system for the nighttime GotG version of the ride for Halloween? Do they just magically appear as a choice on the app at 3:00p? Earlier? Not at all?

If you've had experience with it, I'd love to hear.

Thanks!

Yes. And be sure you are eligible to get a MaxPass right around 3:00, i.e. don't be making evening MPs at 2:15 and get locked out from making another. They go FAST!

Agreed! Make sure you are eligible to make a FP at 3pm on the dot! Keep refreshing once it gets to 2:59 (I go back to the select a park page and reselect DCA), until it shows up. In the first week or so occasionally it would load up at 2:45, but I think they got the software worked out and now it is limited to 3.

In the evening, after you use the FP, make sure to keep checking, sometimes people have found them available when someone has just released a couple. It's rare but not unheard of!

Thanks for giving a detail description on how you refresh! We're going out there this weekend and we haven't been since MaxPass was implemented, so I was thinking to myself that once we have MP loaded on the first day, I need to figure out the specific ins and outs so I'm ready to go at 3pm. Last time we visited (over a year ago) I remember that sometimes the wait times would be off if we left the app running, but I couldn't remember exactly what we would do to get it to update.

It definitely takes some trial and error to get used to it!
  • Ensure everyone tickets are loaded into the app on your phone
  • Click "get fastpass" (you click your avatar and it will be underneath My Plans on the pull-up menu
  • Create a Fastpass Party. Everyone's tickets will be listed by their ID. I do not know if there are numbers or names, as I've only used with an AP, which has my name. Automatically everyone's ticket will be selected; if you are making a FP for only a few people then you need to unselect the others. If someone is not eligible to get a FP (either they haven't entered a park that day, or don't have Maxpass, or their FP window hasn't reopened), then you will be prompted to remove them from your party.
  • Select the park, there is DL or DCA
  • The available rides and times for that park are then shown. Only one time period is shown for each ride.
  • Choose the FP you want and then click "confirm"
  • When you go to the ride, you will scan in with either the app or your ticket. You will likely need to scan twice. Most FP lines are longer in length and go next to the standby line, so they need to ensure no one jumps in the line. So I have found it is easier to use my AP, as once I scan at the first point I can be trying to book another FP on my phone, rather than keeping the screen open to scan again.
Some tips:
  • You are eligible to get a new Fastpass when one of the following happens, I am going to use the example that it is 1pm:
    • For a FP that has its redemption time open in the next 30 minutes (1-1:30), you can get a new FP either at 1:30 or when you have used the FP.
    • For a FP that has a redemption time 30-90 minutes, you can get a new FP when the first one's redemption time opens
    • For a FP that has a redemption time in over 90 minutes, you can get a new FP in 90 minutes. However, you cannot hold 2 FPs for the same ride at the same time. So if, for example, at 1pm you pull a Racers FP for 5:30, you can get a new FP at 2:30pm for any ride except Racers. I think I remember hearing about people who had a FP for Guardians in the afternoon, after 3pm, and were unable to book a FP for Monsters After Dark until they had used the previous Guardians FP. So, be careful with that!
  • You cannot search for a new FP once you have booked one, until you are eligible for a new FP. So, you cannot check to see if another FP has opened for earlier without deleting the one you currently have. If you delete, you probably won't be able to get it back.
  • With Maxpass, you can often get a FP for a time that is earlier than the posted return time. You can also sometimes get a FP for a ride that has completed FP distribution for that day. Similar to the FP system at WDW, it will depend on luck and how many people you are searching for. When I'm there solo, I am usually able to find earlier FPs, though I have to "refresh" until a time pops up I like; and I run the risk of the regular return times continuing to get later and later without an earlier one popping up. If you are in a larger group though, you're probably going to be sticking with the regular return time!
  • As I mentioned before, the best way I've found to "refresh" is I look and see what times are currently being offered for the ride I'm interested in. If I don't like it I click back, which takes you back to the choose a park page. I re-click the appropriate park and scroll down again. If there are no FPs available at all for a ride it will be at the bottom of the list.

I hope that makes sense! And I do love having MaxPass! It makes it so much easier than having to run around the park.

New to MP... how do I get to select a park page. I am not in the park, I am at home and just "practicing" with the app. TIA!!!!

Unfortunately you can't really "practice" with the app until you get into a park. It will not let you get to the select a park page without an eligible FP party! So even right now, I can get to the Choose a Fastpass Party page, but not beyond it. You can see my tip/methods in the post above (which came thru probably while you were typing!)

I totally feel your pain though, as I always want to know exactly what to do ahead of time!

Lot's of great info! I'll save this to refer back to when we arrive. Quick question about the above. I realize we can't try to book a new FP if we're not eligible, but do we at least still have access to the map with the "normal" FP return times? I'm thinking that if we were considering cancelling a FP in order to get a FP for another ride, we would want to make sure that the new ride has FP available, isn't broken down, has a reasonable return time, etc. We might get a different return time via MP based on cancellations, but the regular return would at least give us something to go off of before making a decision.

Yeah, you can still see the map with the current "paper" FP return times. But you have to check each ride individually, no way to get a list of all of the times!

I must have gotten lucky on Sunday at checked the app at the exact right time since we were able to get the nighttime GOTG FP with no problems. (AND IT WAS AMAZING!!!!!!! :) )

pretty much if your at the ready by 2:59 pm, scoring the variant to GOTG is a sure win, not only were we able to nab it in the morning regular but we nabbed it twice right at 3 pm cause it conflicted with our dinner reservation right at 5 lol.
