We won't be buying MP every day of our trip. We may buy it for 1 person for the photos on some days. But I'm not sure how many photos we'll get in a given day so, do I need to buy MP BEFORE the pics get taken or can we buy it later on in the day after we've taken pics.

Awesome! Will I be able to see the pictures in the app to see if we like them before we buy? Or do they only show in the app once purchased?
When you have a Disney Photographer take a pic or a ride pic they are tied to the MP Code.
If you haven't purchased MP and have a photographer take a pic they give you a PhotoPass card.

The only way I know to see the pictures on the PhotoPass card is to go to one of the photo shops.
There a CM will be able to show you the pictures.
I don't know about now but photo shops in the past were not able to display ride photos.
Only the ride kiosk could.

If you like what you see at the photo shop you can then get MP.

I am not sure if it's changed or not but if you want to see your pictures the same day before buying the MP then you should visit a photo shop as we have had our pictures delayed and only saw them the next day when we had photopass plus or added a card from a photo pass photographer. Also, if you wait too long into the day I believe you may not be able to add MP - isn't there only so many that can be purchased each day in the parks? I would buy a MP once you enter the parks and then make that your photo day where you seek them out and do all the rides you want with photos and then you will have lots to pick from!!

Sheesh...this MaxPass thing seems really complicated! So, it is PhotoPass, too? Do they still charge over $100 for the cd with photos? Is PhotoPass optional? My teenager is going next fall (school choir/band trip). The travel agents are useless...they won't add the MaxPass for us, so he'll have to do it the first day at the park after he gets his ticket. You aren't agreeing to make photo purchases just by using MaxPass are you? Is there a link to a thread here that explains this to those of us who haven't been to Disney since the economy tanked?

Wow, so much negativity. A simple google search would have demonstrated that almost all of your concerns (and even criticism of the "useless" travel agent) are unfounded.

It's actually not that complicated - we have not been to the parks since this was introduced and I feel very confident with the idea of it having read up here on the boards and online. I actually think it will add a lot of value to our trip.

MP includes all photos taken in the park the day you purchase it - they are included - you don't have to buy a CD for $100 - all you pay is the $10 for the pass per person per day. The only way to add MP onto a ticket before entering the park though is to purchase directly through the Disneyland site or app - and the travel agent may not be doing this as they may be buying at a discount so that option would not be available.

As long as your son is able to log into your Disneyland account using the Disneyland app - he will be able to add it very quickly once he scans his ticket. The one thing to make sure though is that you have a credit card added to your Disneyland account so he can just use that to pay and not have to enter credit card information that he may not have with him.

I am sure he'll have no problem doing all this given how technology savvy most young people are today, especially since he'll be with a group of others likely doing the same. The only thing you might want to send him with is a portable charger as he phone battery will likely get a work out using the app throughout the day.

Does DL have a lot of photopass photograhers like WDW? If you use the MP, does that mean you do not have to run to a FP machine - you can just select them on your phone?

It’s hard to believe that you get all the PhotoPass downloads for just $10 a day! If all our tickets are on my account, can I really just get MP on one ticket?

Yup!! You can access fast passes from both parks no matter where you are. There are many reports of people who can still book fast passes while they're taking a midday hotel break

We do this all the time: get there at opening, enjoy the less busy park while using MP. Head back maybe shortly after lunch. Collect FPs while the younger kids nap. Head back for the evening and enjoy a bunch of FPs.

One time it worked out and we practically had 4 FPs heading back to the park. And then were able to get even more that evening.

I had Max Pass but forgot to use it for first part of the day, got a phot pass card, entered the card info into my app and all the pictures populated within a half hour. Zero issues.

YES for the FP! You can literally walk thu the ticket area in DL and make a FP reservation for DCA or DL. You can cancel them as well if a time doesn't work for you. The other thing to note is that my first 2 FP turned into Multi Experience Passes right on my phone. So those rides must have shut down at some point before I used pass and then became good for any ride requiring a FP at any time of day in that Park!

I found there to be a good amount of photographers around in both parks.

At entrances, in front of castle, with certain characters just on the street, in all meet and greet character opportunities. In Cars land in front of Flos V8 at night was a favorite!

Thanks everyone. I just got home from our trip and this worked out perfectly. I bought 1 Maxpass whenever I had a break during the day and got all our pics for the day. We used the machines for FP for rides and felt it worked just fine the free way. We often got times for instant riding. $40/day extra for FP would have meant less snacks and I think the Churros and ice cream were a better choice.
