Has anyone stayed at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel & Bungalows?
Are reservations hard to get?
Is it up to DVC standards? Thanks!

We stayed there in 2003 for our 25th Anniversary. It wasn't a problem getting reservations (at least several month in advance) but I don't know about othere time of the year.

It's a beautiful facility and certainly equivalent to DVC, except no kitchen. I certainly wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if I was going back, but the 12 hr. plane ride is a killer!

Stayed in 2000 for our honeymoon. First use of our DVC points, actually (used the cash saved for the honeymoon to buy DVC).

Although I liked the Kapula Bay on Maui better, the Mauna Lani was an wonderful hotel. I do disagree with the previous comment that it is comparable to DVC, however. IMO, most all the concierge collection properties are superior to DVC. This is, of course, not taking into account that DVC is in Disneyworld, which is what makes the DVC special in the first place (but let's face it, I wouldn't really call the DVC rooms luxury when compared to other luxury hotels.)

If you don't need a kitchen, you will be perfectly happy with the Mauni Lani. Comfortable, attentive, and beautiful with a nice beach (for the Big Island), and nice views. DW may not be at your doorstep, but who needs it, Hawaii is!!!!

Oh my goodness UCONN you are making me want to go really badly.
Maybe for my 26th anniversary.

We stayed there in 2002 and loved it. I would say it certainly is up to DVC standards. We also liked Kapalua Bay in Maui a little better. The hotels are comparable, we just liked Maui better.

We have stayed there 4 times ............it is just beautiful..........if you can ever get a bunglaow that is the way to go but it eats your points huge..........we had our own private chef for a week.............it was a spectacular vacation............it is our favorite place to vacation on the big island.............

We made reservations two weeks ago to go in June 2006. At that time, I was told that there were only 3 days in June and July were sold out so you probably have a really good chance right now.

Our first choice was Kapula but they are closing at the end of this year.

We can't wait to go!

bongo59,
You mentioned in another thread that you got an upgrade to a bungalow. What were the circumstances?

How many points/night to reserve a bungalow? We've only stayed in hotel rooms.

We went to the Mauna Lani in 2002 for 8 nights and absolutely loved it! Would love to go back, but the points needed have really gone up just in 3 years.

I'm also interested in hearing more about using points to book a bungalow. I didn't even know that was an option. I don't remember it being listed on the Concierge Collection chart (although I haven't looked at that chart lately).
