I'm in the market for a new mattress and boxspring. I've never had to buy a set in my adult life. What brand do you have? Are you happy with it? Was it purchased in a bedding store (Sleepy's, Rockaway Bedding) or elsewhere?

I have a Select Comfort Sleep Number bed. I love it. I sleep on my side and my arms used to fall asleep. Not anymore. I've had the bed for 3 years and it's amazing. :goodvibes My mother laid on it and said she felt like she was "in the womb". The best part is, when my back is acting up, I can up the firmness for more support. I usually keep it on 35 and I feel like I'm resting in a hammock.

Thanks. Is that the actual brand? How was it price-wise?

Anybody else out there have a bed???????

Yes...the store is called Select Comfort and their brand of beds is the Sleep Number bed. I got mine 3 years ago and paid about $1999. for the king-sized, pillow-top mattress with the frame. They give you a 30 night trial period and have a 20 year warranty.

The one problem I've encountered is that my cat, Ally, has learned how to use the remote control. Sometimes, I'll wake up in the middle of the night and feel myself either going up or down because she stepped on a button. :cat:

I have a Tempur-Pedic mattress and I got it last year (well, a whole new bed) And, I love my bed. I call up my mother and say "I love my bed".

I got mine at a locally owned furniture store under a different name than Tempur-Pedic but that is what it is. It's FABULOUS!

I love my bed ;)

I don't know if we will break down and buy a mattress right away, but I am wanting to replace our old set.

As far as the 'Air' type beds, like the select comfort sleep number...
Check out this mattress!!!

comfortdirect.com

It has many air chambers, not just a blow up air-bed. And, it comes topped with the visco-elastic memory foam. I think it might be worth looking into! Check out their 'comparison' pages.

I would LOVE to hear from anyone who has one of these mattresses,

My big complaint with my mattress, which is several years old now, is the 'hammocking' effect. It has lost its support and is too 'soft'. The 'Hammocking' is the industry term for when the mattress starts to get soft and sag in the middle after a few years. I do not think a regular air-bed would be good for me at all.

As far as regular spring mattresses... It is harder to know what you are getting. I know that many Simmons use only the 15 gauge springs (the lightest wire....) I have sat on many in the showrooms that bounce like a trampoline!!!

Sterns and Foster is known for being the maker that uses the heaviest gauge springs. These will offer more support, and will last longer. They come recommended for heavier people.

I recently saw a set of Restonic mattresses that I really liked!!! NO sagging or bouncing!!! Tons of support, and topped with a layer of visco-elastic memory foam. Felt great! And, it was cheep!!! Only $699.00. So, I am going to look into Restonic mattresses to see how they are constructed and how long they are supposed to last.

One of the BEST mattress sites that I have found, with great information, evaluations, life-expectancys, etc.. is

us-mattress.com

Check it out!

With the "tempur-pedic" type mattresses there is NO turning of the mattress...ever. It molds to your sleep and then when you get out of bed it "bounces" back.

I love my bed ;)

We have a Simmons Pillow top mattress. We really like it. We purchased it at a local furniture store.

We have a California King Serta pillowtop. I love my bed! It's so comfortable but it's REALLY hard to get out of bed in the morning. ;)

I think ours is a Serta. It is a pillow-top, and it is COMFORTABLE!!

I have an old fashioned waterbed with a semi-waveless mattress - I love my waterbed

We too have a king size Select Comfort Sleep number bed. We bought it about 4 years ago after having a waterbed for years, and this is the GREATEST bed! I prefer a little softer mattress than DH, and with this bed, we each get to choose the firmness of the matress. Also, it is great if you need to make the bed softer or firmer when you have aches and pains to work around.

I'm doing that same research, and we've decided on the Sleep Number bed as well as our favorite.

Now we just have to be able to afford it. By going with an air mattress, we can step up to a King sized bed (which is something I've wanted to do for years). But that's that much more expensive... Probably going to take us a year to save up for it, so we're looking at getting a memory foam topper for our current bed to last us until we can get the Select Comfort.

Recently bought a Sterns and Foster plush top king sized mattress and box spring. It is so comfy and hard to get out of bed. :cloud9:
Best advice is - go to the store and try them out. It really makes a difference to lie on them and see how they feel.

sterns & foster 'st. elizabeth'.

the MOST comfortable bed i've ever slept on in my life. :cloud9:

i have a platform bed, so we only had to buy the mattress, but with delivery and everything it was about 2k.

We don't have the Tempur-Pedic Brand Swedish Foam Mattress, ours is either Seally or Serta, I forget which one. We liked it because it was a little bit higher than the Tempur-pedic. DH didn't want a low bed. I knew I definately wanted the Swedish Foam Mattress.

Okay, I went to a little mattress outlet that carries the Restonic mattresses today. They have some Tempur-pedic style mattresses, but made by Restonic. (cheaper!!! ;) ) And I think I want a memory-foam now!!!

They have one model that has different 'zones', with solid dense foam in the middle third of the mattress for additional support there where it is needed. But, I didn't find it more supportive. I loved a couple models that they have with stiffer, more supportive, high-density poly-foam topped with a thick layer of the visco-foam. Then, the quilted top, like regular mattresses. Man, that feels great!

You really do have to test-drive these mattresses to find the one you like.

The only problem is, that the prices are supposed to go sky-high due to the foam shortage, and we weren't planning on buying this week!!!

Maybe I need to work on my DH!!! ;)

Sleep Number. I LOVE my bed! No flipping or turning, since there's no need. When it was delivered, I carried the boxes upstairs and assembled it myself. My back has stopped hurting and I sleep so much better. It's cleanable, too. The box spring is black plastic slats and pieces that form a platform. They're easily dusted. The mattress itself can be taken apart and the mattress cover can be cleaned. All of this has been a great improvment for my allergies.
