I'm not sure if this is a crazy question or a pretentious question, but I'm pretty sure it falls into one of those categories and I'm going to ask anyway.

My DH, DS13, DS11 and DD8 are all headed down for Thanksgiving. We are staying at CBR for the first time, but it is not our first time at a moderate resort. Usually we stay at POR, but alas...

So, every year without fail these 3 children end up in the queen beds and I eventually give up being abused in the bed and move myself to the murphy bed. I'm an average sized woman, standing at 5'4'', so this is not optimal, but I can fall asleep just about anywhere. The problem is that 40 doesn't feel so good getting up after sleeping on the thin, unforgiving murphy mattress, which brings me to my question.

Does anyone out there bring a mattress topper for the murphy bed? Is that crazy? I bet I could just have Amazon ship me one to use, but I'm sure there is no murphy bed sized one so I would have to cut it down. I'm just trying to think about how to make sleeping a better experience for all of us!

It may be time to tell your kids where they are going to sleep and you take one of the queen beds with your husband. Your daughter could easily sleep on the murphy bed. Or maybe even either of your two sons. Or they could all sleep together in one queen bed.

Bring an air mattress along or have one shipped to you. The murphy beds are not meant for adults, and I would worry about falling out of having it break on me.

But I agree, it is past time to put your foot down and not have the kids steal your comfortable bed. Throw one or two of them on an air mattress. Past time for the kids to realize they don't outrank mom!:teeth:

While these are very helpful replies (?), I'm looking to make the murphy bed more comfortable for ONE OF THE KIDS. Not for me.

Wow, that is not what I got out of your post AT ALL. You mention 40 being uncomfortable on the murphy bed. Nowhere did you state you were putting a child on the murphy bed. If you truly think you have to make the murphy bed more comfortable, then ship down a mattress pad and cut it down. Or maybe just ask for a few extra blankets and pad it that way.

The murphy beds were made for children and any of them should be able to sleep on it without extra padding. Place a pea under the mattress. If any of the kids feel it, then just layer another blanket on top of the mattress. I'm not sure how easy it will be to remake the bed with something on top of the mattress like a foam pad.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I want to know if it is not worth the trouble logistically. We are slerring here for 12 nights. If I can make it more comfortable for any of us, that's my aim.

If you go with a pad simply toss it in a drawer before you leave. Housekeeping can fold the bed back up, and you can toss it on again when it is time to sleep.

I am not going to tell you how you should do your sleeping arrangements:) Yes, we have brought an eggshell topper when we knew we might sleep on a pullout etc. We drive so it is not an issue with packing. maxiesmom had a good idea about an air mattress, does not take up much room when packing.

Another vote for an airbed - you can grab a twin size one for as little as $10 that will be fine for a child and probably more comfortable than the murphy - an extra blanket under the airbed keeps it more comfortable. Even at the deluxe resorts my dd's were never comfortable in the day beds and preferred an airbed!

We fly SWA so we pack a small roller (an old kids size one that was outgrown) with the airbed, sheets and a small pump and check it. We just stand the airbed up against the wall by the end queen bed during the day.

I had a mattress topper mailed to us from Bed Bath and Beyond. It wasn't an expensive one but it helped a lot. We left if there when we left since we flew.
