Mattress Issues

We paid $3,000 for a mattress about two years ago and have the same issue.
We got a firm 2 inch mattress topper from amazon, it helps a bit.

I mentioned up-thread we have a Casper mattress, which is one of the more popular "bed in a box" style mattresses you buy online. I think they may sell them now at one of the wholesale clubs, and I know Target carries Casper pillows and mattress pads. Anyway, we researched all the comparable brands and found them all to be relatively inexpensive with mostly good reviews. It was definitely more firm than we were used to at first, but after having it for a year now, the shape is still great and we have no complaints. We do rotate it regularly. Most of these styles come with a 90-100 day return window as well.

Comparable brands, some of which are even less expensive, are Lull, Purple, Cocoon by Sealy. I'm sure there's many more now after the success of Casper. They are giving the expensive Tempurpedic brand a run for their money.

That’s about what we paid, although ours is about 8 years old now. What’s stopping us from getting a new one is not being able to find exactly what we want. As someone upthread mentioned, the old, two sided kind are not common anymore. :(

We had the same problem. I bought a memory foam topper from Kohls for about $150 and we were able to get several more years out of the mattress. We did finally buy a new mattress about a year ago, and after only a couple nights on it, my DH really missed the memory foam, so we went ahead and put it on the new mattress too.

A few years back, DW wanted a king size bed so we bought one. And that sucker was expensive. Fast forward, this mattress hasn't held up well at all. It can't be flipped because it's got that one side special for sleeping (I'm sure there's a technical term for that), and we have both created our own little valleys. We just got back from vacation, and my lower back pain wasn't nearly as bad, sleeping in other beds, yet here I am two days later having slept in this bed, and my back aches.

All that to ask, is there anything I can do short of a new mattress? Is there some sort of pad we could put on this? If I need another mattress, what are recommendations? I definitely need something firmer than this has been.

Just curious how many is a "Few" years. If you do have to get a new one I would recommend going to the Orignal Mattress Factory. There are 8 stores in and around Pittsburgh

We had this problem with our previous mattress. It was a Sealy monster with a pillow top, needed really deep pockets sheets to fit. It eventually got huge canyons where we slept, although it did take about 10 years so that was fine. But my back had been hurting every morning for probably at least 5 of those. When we got a new mattress we didn't want to pay the outrageous price again for a mattress that would still make my back hurt. We did tons of research and also ended up with a Casper. We've had it about 2 years now and I love it. Still in the same shape as when we bought it, no back pain, a fraction of the cost of the old one.

We badly need a new mattress. My sister has a lovely mattress- it weighs a ton and isn't a pillow top, but it's solid, no valleys, and she's had if for something like 25 years! They don't make them like that anymore, that's for sure!

Is there a reason you can't flip the mattress? I know you won't have the pillow top, but you also won't have the valleys. Flip it over, and put a topper on it if you need it softer. Nothing worse than a bad mattress, except paying for a new one, of course!

We bought the same mattress they use at Homewood Suites. King over $3,000. Same issue with the gully where we lay. We rotate it. Same thing happen with the prior mattress. Next time I will spend less and just replace it more often

Same problem here, went to Kohls earlier today and paired up some discounts and got an allergy proofing cover that zips around the mattress and a Serta memory foam topper and so far so good, I've only been in bed for about an hour. The morning will be the real test, hopefully my lowe back thanks me

We're in the same boat. Unfortunately, those pillow top mattresses don't hold up. The mattress is fine. It's the pillow top that didn't hold up. Unfortunately, you'll have to buy a pillow top topper for it and stick a couple of old towels in the divots you made in it. Otherwise the pillow top topper will just follow the contour of the divots and you'll be right back where you are now.
