I asked this last year and now I cant find it. Sorry for the repeat!

DH and I are finally looking at mattresses. Of course, like many married couples we cant agree on the support factor. I tend to like a more firm mattress, he doesnt.

We will moving up from a queen to a king size as well.
So we need a whole new set.

Now the kickers. LOL

I dont want to spend thousands of dollars on this thing. I mean I can see $1500 or so but would rather spend less.

AND

I am allergic to latex so I have to be really careful about what the material is.

So, does anyone have a bed that they absolutely love?

Am I totally dreaming to think I can find a mattress like this in my price range?

We went through a lot of mattresses (not to mention money) over a period of years to find one that suited our needs. My wife has major back problems and needs to be able to adjust frequently while I can sleep on just about anything. We tried soft, firm, padded, water bed, memory foam. The memory foam worked well, but always lost it's memory in about a year. The guarantee replaced it several times and the last was just too firm and never did "break in" as was promised. We finally went with a sleep number bed and now each side has separate adjustments that can be adjusted to suit each of us whenever and as often as we need. I found a setting I like and might make a slight adjustment every six months or so, my wife might adjust her side several times each night depending on how her back is feeling.

The only bed I can recommend is a Sleep Number / Select Comfort. They have several models and you may want to look at them to make your choice. We decided against the one with the foam pad because we found out the foam holds heat from your body. That might work better in a cold climate, but not in Florida. The biggest advantage is have a mattress that can be as soft or firm as you each want when you want it.

We have a Sleep Number/Select Comfort bed and we love it. Dual controls, so DH and I can set our own level of softness/firmness. We bought one of the basic models (king size) and then bought a nice pillow-top mattress pad. Saved $$$ that way and it is VERY comfortable.

Before this mattress, we had a Temperpedic mattress and liked it in the wintertime, but not summertime. It tended to retain heat and was very hot sleeping at night.

We have a Sleep Number because we also disagree on firmness/softness. I sleep with my side on 100 most of the time, DW sleeps with her side closer to 35 - huge difference. A Sleep Number/Select Comfort is really about the only option if the two of you have very different ideas of what equals comfort when it comes to firmness.

I wonder if I can I get a sleep number bed for around $1500? I havent priced them out at all. Thanks!

I appreciate the info!

DH and I bought a King sized sealy last year and we love it. I tend to like softer while he needs firmer (because after a while he makes it softer), so we looked at their dual mattresses. We ended up going with a firm one after all, but the dual ones were pretty cool.

Dh was nervous about the Sleep Number and the Sealy dual ones were nice. You could get one side firm and one side softer and there wasn't a big transition in the middle, so it was pretty comfy either way. I'd check those out. We got our mattress for $1400 last year and the duals were only about $150 more. It was on sale, but you can usually find a sale on Sealy's if you look around town a bit.

good luck!

It seemed to me that ours (basic king sized bed) cost somewhere around this several years ago. I'm not sure what the cost is today. Good luck!!

I love my bed. It is a double pillow top by Obedco. It has pillowtops on both sides, so we have a softness, but the main mattress part is fairly firm too, best of both worlds. I think it was about $1500-2000 when we got it last year.

We have a 4 y.o. queen beautyrest that we're happy with.

Seems like mattresses go on clearance in the fall. I'd wait till after Labor Day for deals.

herc.

Another vote for a Sleep number bed......for all the reasons listed above

so it looks like I can get the basic model sleep number bed for under $1500. barely. is the basic model ok?

I dont need the foundation for it, I can get a cheap version for that part.

I read about the dual Sealys those look nice too.

I am one of those people who "sleep hot" so I think the temupedic wont work for that. I know they retain heat more.

I have a kingsdown bed, which I LOVE! DH feels differently. When we went to sleepy's and tried it out he liked it, but now he hates it and says it's too soft. I don't have one but I would suggest the sleep number being that you and DH like different support.

Check out item#H05536 on QVC.com. Just alittle more than you want to spend, but close. Maybe a Sleep Number store would have a better deal.

We bought our Sleep Number from QVC as a Today's Special Value. We are very happy with our bed. Set up is very easy. QVC has a dedicated phone line called Select Comfort Gold Service. We called this number when our bed arrived as the one of the boxes was missing the air pump. I think someone stole it during the shipping process as the box looked beat up and retaped. QVC immediately shipped us a replacement pump.

I have two ruptured discs (degenerative disc disease, suspected spinal stenosis), sciatica and some nerve damage. I had my Select Comfort/Sleep Number bed for 5 years. HATED it! I have a knock-off memory foam mattress now and it's just OK. The best sleep I've had in years a week I spent at a Marriot in San Franscisco - they use Jamison mattresses. I need to mattress shop soon and am defintiely going to be looking at Jamison
