Having never been to Disneyland I was wondering exactly what the Matterhorn is considered....is it a rollercoaster like space mountain?

I am a chicken - enjoy the Runaway Train but did not like Space Mountain. I think it is the (sudden) drops....I dont particularly care for the drop at the end of Splash either. I love Test Track.

Please explain the ride alittle? Is it just fast, etc?

(PS last WDW trip I ventured onto RNC and did "okay" although I kept my eyes shut the whole time)

Thanks.

It's definitely a roller coaster. In fact, Space Mountain at WDW was designed to be like the Matterhorn, but indoors.

There is only one major sudden drop and that's only on one of the two tracks. If that bothers you, be sure to get in line on the side nearest to Fantasyland.

The ride can be unnerving, because it is quite rough and unpredictable. But the Fantasyland side is a little smoother. Neither side is really that fast.

It's a 40-ish year old roller coaster. Kinda jerky and medium fastness. No real steep drops or anything. But a lot of fun. We always go on it at least once. But in all honesty, it is a lot like Space Mtn, but with the lights, wind in your hair and a monster that screams at you in the middle;)

Once you are at the park, you can easily see the riders and what they are experiencing and decide if it is for you or not. Have a great vacation, whatever you decide.

<font color=navy>I think the Matterhorn was revolutionary in its time because it was the first steel rollercoaster. You go up in the middle of the mountain, about halfway up (the skyway used to go through the mountain, and the coaster was built below it), and then you wind your way down the mountain. The coaster is not smooth, but it's a LOT of fun, especially at night. I agree with Firefly777 that the Fantasyland side is a bit smoother, and doesn't include the mini drop that the Tomorrowland side has.

You're mostly going in fast circles back and forth, rather than going in drops.

There's a video of it here. It was taken at night, but you can get an idea of what it's like.

Hey thanks for the video link. Just one more thing to get me into the mood. Just watched the planning video again today. I think that makes like 10 since i got it a month ago. HAHA
