Matterhorn- refurbishment

As Blue32 said, the calendar currently shows the Matterhorn as being scheduled to re-open on May 22nd (the 24-hour day), but that schedule can change without notice. I do think Disney is doing everything they can to get the Matterhorn back open on time, especially given Peter Pan is now not re-opening until July, but things can happen to delay the re-opening.

What did they do to refurbish the Matterhorn? Maybe make it less painful to ride?

Thanks, figment. I guess I will not be riding it. My poor back cannot take the punishment.

We can cross our fingers! I'm sure there will be reports from guests going to the 24-hour day (or soon thereafter) who will report whether the Matterhorn is smoother now or just as rough.

I've never ridden the Matterhorn. How would the pain threshold on Matterhorn compare to Indiana Jones? IJ just about kills me. Unfortunately, my daughter (8) loves it, so I suffer through it (with lots of meds) for her. I know she is going to want to ride Matterhorn, so I'm curious how they compare.

Also, how hard is it for a large, not so bendy, person to get in and out of the sled?

It depends on what about Indy Jones makes it hard for you to ride. Matterhorn is very rough...as in bumpy and jerky. I can ride Indy without feeling bruised on the tailbone, but not Matterhorn. The closest I can think to describe Matterhorn is imagine a parking lot full of slightly smaller speed bumps at irregular intervals and heights. Drive over that and make a few sharp turns. Matterhorn is far rougher than Space or Big Thunder...there really isn't anything quite like it...

I would say the cars are not the easiest to get out of...but it does depend a little on which seat you are in. I think some have more leg room than others, but all around, the sleds aren't the easiest to get in and out of if you're not flexible.

Yeah, I'm thinking I will skip Matterhorn. Indy jostles and bumps too much for me and repeatedly jams my knees into the front. Matterhorn sounds even more painful!

Pretty hard. I'm not a small girl, and 6' tall, but I do go to the gym regularly, so not completely out of shape. Matterhorn was always my favorite. After the refurb I went on & thought I'd been in a major car accident. At the end of the ride, I felt like I was positioned for a visit to my ob/gyn. Never again. I'm an ap and have been back many times since and just wait on the benches when my teens ride. I've never had any issues with Indy, love that one.

I was there yesterday. They've removed the refurbishment walls and have begun daily test runs on the systems. I spoke to the CM outside the ride. He said the bobsleds are exactly the same, no new seat cushions (a rumor I'd heard) or any other changes to them. They have been cleaned and waxed with some minor repair work. He hasn't seen the new "Harry" the Abominable Snowman yet as it is covered by a sheet right now. :) It should be up and running next week on schedule.

There's more space in the car for jostling and jamming on Indy than on a Matterhorn sled so this sounds like a wise call.
