Matterhorn Refurb

Hello. I tried to search the forum, because I am sure that there must be a thread (or two ) discussing this topic, but I had no luck. I am curious about the purpose for the lengthy closure of the Matterhorn. It was closed when we were there at the end of January, and I just realized that the ride will be down until the middle of June. Are they changing ride vehicles or doing some other major alteration?

It was down in July '11 when we were there and still closed when we were there late last month. I hope it will be open in May when we will be there or at least in oct when we are there. I have only been on it once and have been there7+ times. It was always closed.

It hasn't been closed since last July. It is receiving new sleds and the queue area is being modified to accomodate them. It reopens mid June.

They are changing the ride vehicles.

It's also gettting a new paint scheme from the mountain peak down. General track maintnance. New queueing system in the station.

Planned to reopen on June 15th.

Thanks for all the replies and information. I do know that while it seems to have been closed a lot recently, I can vouch that it was open when we were there in the fall. I am really excited to see the fresh paint and experience the new ride vehicles. I love the Matterhorn, but it is one ride that needs some serious tlc!

The current refurb began on Jan 9th of this year. I hear they did have a smaller closure last summer to test fit a new sled. Regardless it has been closed a lot lately.

Does anyone else think that those new ride vehicles look a bit uncomfortable? I know it is hard to tell without sitting in them, but they look a little like fast food restaurant seats; hard and unforgiving.

I am hoping that it will be open when we go in July! Last year, when we were there with the kiddos, it was closed. Crossing my fingers that it will be open this time!

Well, I'm crossing my fingers that it won't be so jarring and bumpy when it opens. That ride always gives me a headache. Either that, or install some memory foam seat pads.

I dont think its scheduled to reopen until June 15th (coinciding with carsland).
