I saw on another website that Matterhorn would be closing in January for 18 months. Anyone know anything more about this? That seems to be really long to me....

A quick Google search helped me find the rumors you were referring to, but considering January is already half over and nothing is listed about such a refurb, I have to say this "Myth is Busted". They DO have plans to install the new bobsleds, but I don't know when that will happen or how long it will be down, but there is nothing mentioned right now about an 18 month refurb starting THIS month on the Matterhorn on any official Disney site.

Thanks, I couldn't find anything else either! I hope it's open when we go in June. This will be our first trip and a must do for us!

I know which site that was from. While the official updates are pretty reliable, often the other members think they know more than they actually do. I will wait until Disney officially announces a refurb. I can't wait until they do put in the new bobsleds.

Looking forward to the new sleds too. My DD7 won't ride it after hitting her head at the end when we were breaking at the very end (we were on the tomorrowland side and had come to a complete stop and then had to move forward and break again a couple of times before it was our turn to exit - not actually hurt, but this kid holds grudges and she has not forgiven the ride.

This kid love BTMRR - she just does not like the way you are seated on the matterhorn.

Yeah I can't wait for the new bobsleds and hoping they make the the ride a bit smoother. But I do not think that it will take 18 months to install them.

Gosh I hope it's not till after April. DGD2 is just now tall enough to ride it :thumbsup2

It sounds like most of you arent very tall, I am 6"2 and heard that the new sleds may make it hard for tall or big people to ride. I am a little worried about that, I love the Matterhorn and it would really suck to not be able to go on it again.

18 Months? Unlikely. They could build an entirely new Matterhorn in that time. *I* could build a new Matterhorn in that time ;-).

It's not 18 months, but as of yesterday the Fantasyland side was closed. The CM said it would be down again today but should be open tomorrow for the weekend.

I hope Matterhorn not down for that long, but look how long Space Mountain was down for when they did the major rehab on it.

Oh I had no idea they were installing new bobsleds! Glad I got to ride it twice this week.
Does anyone know what the difference will be on the new bobsleds?

From photos I've seen each person will have their own seat, no more riding together and sitting between someone's legs. Also the restraints are supposed to be better, not just seat belt style. I have heard they are more compact so some people might have problems fitting but I don't know. That's just what I saw/read on another site, can't remember where tho....maybe it was an Al Lutz/Miceage thing.

yes, if you go to Miceage and click on Al's most recent update he had a picture of the new bobsleds. I hope they will have a little more padding since that ride really jerks me around. I still love it though!

I heard the same thing...people over 6ft and over 200lbs will have a tight fit...not that they can't ride...just a tight fit!

I saw the new sleds and it looks like the front seat will still have that nice little bit more leg room than the other 2 seats behind...that might help :)

Just read my Mousesavers newsetter. Glad i didn't see anything about a long term closing. Did see that they are closing Splash Mountain this week until May 26th...hope it's open on time for our June 10th trip. This is one of our favorites.

I wonder if the new seats will call for a change in the height requirement? Also wonder if the new seats will allow for a child to sit with you. This is DD3's favorite ride at DL by far. I'd be so sad for her if she could no longer ride it for awhile.
