OK for all you parents who are looking to get closer to you kids besides Disney? One word, now say it with me "Muuuuusssiiic"! GOOD CLASS! Anyway, here's my story:
As a young kid my father (Mommy isn't really into music) brought me up listeing to his fave. artists (Ie. Old-School Genisis, King Crimson, The Beatles, the Smiths, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Morrisey, Peter Gabriel solo stuff) and I've always thought "Man that is totaly rad!" Ok, may it was "cool", but anyway..) Now as a pre-teen I've come to have a passion with music of all sorts. As he plays his music now I really listen to it and ask questions. It's really an awesome way to spend time together. You can talk about something you BOTH enjoy. You can talk about his/her music too. Try to be involved. Watch MTV everyone in a while, no matter how much you hate it.
Now my father and I regularly see out favorite bands/artists, and we have a total blast! I've seen Peter Gabriel (x2 ONCE I was like 15 feet away and it was mind blowing! He's seem him avout 20 times now), The Distilles, Garbage, No Doubt (My personal fave), and many more to come. It's so much fun! Not only is it a great expreience, but you can actually have CONVERSATIONS. Wow...
Anyway, I hope you found this a little bit helpful. I sound like a total airhead, I know, but it's so exciting talking about music.
