Math on Aulani Sales/Declaration

Outside of the Disney bubble, the Mouse’s prices and definition of deluxe is a harder sell. I suspect AUL will be the death knell for non-theme park DVCs.

But do they even promote it outside of at Aulani? Possibly at DL but I"m not even certain about that and it's a tiny fraction of the sales force there anyway.

IMO they have made the decision of not promoting AUL at WDW or at least I didn't see it when visiting last week.

If they really wanted to sell(out) AUL they would push it much more at all locations.

During the summer AUL was highly incentivized. The developer credits were markedly more than CCV at one point. It may just be that AUL is a harder sell.

I have never really understood how they thought Aulani would be a good idea, unless they thought it would supplement for the lack of DVC options in Disneyland. There's so much advice to buy where you'll be happy staying most of the time due to the booking windows - so unless you're already a frequent flyer to Hawaii you wouldn't choose Aulani as your home resort regardless.

Gotcha - though are there DVC options at the Asian parks? I would think that would be a better place to start than HI. Aulani just always seemed like a weird choice of location.

No DVC at the Asian parks. Disney do not necessarily own them to start with, let alone to sell shares of a resort there. (I think the Asian parks are license not owned.) Plus, non-US regulation. They have issues enough with US regulation outside of Florida.

Tokyo Disneyland is 100% owned by the Oriental Company and they license from Disney the IP and pay Disney for developments.
Shanghai and Hong Kong are partially owned by Disney and by the Chinese government. Not sure if it would be a legal nightmare to build and sell a timeshare there. I guess there would be a market for it (the booming chinese middle class) but I'd say there's less that 1% chance.
Paris is now 100% owned by the Disney Company, so who knows. And they thought about it (the land was later developed by Marriott). Again I highly doubt it, unless the upcoming expansion at DLP really changes the resort fortunes.

Those who frequent both Japan and Hawaii would agree-- the Japanese LOVE Disney and they LOVE Hawaii.

Therefore I feel Aulani was a no brainer given you could market the Disney magic to both countries. It's just a shame it has not worked out.

Still today, the DVC booths in Waikiki are all in Japanese with bilingual speakers.

I’m a new DVC member living in Australia. The Aulani is a 9 hour flight away and we go every other year. The reason I didn’t buy my initial purchase at the Aulani is that I wanted an 11 month option at WDW. The Aulani always has options at 7 months.

I have to say I am honestly relieved that they do not push Aulani outside of sales locations on the west coast or on Oahu as Aulani as a home resort is really NOT a good thing for folks that do not plan to travel to Hawaii at least every other year. I know they sell Aulani at special pricing sometimes on DCL, but again, that can certainly impact availability at WDW resorts. I love Aulani, and have used my points (not Aulani points) there several times, but we travel to Hawaii each year though most of our time is spent on other islands and not Oahu.

What I don't understand is why they don't offer better pricing to those for whom Aulani as a home resort makes sense. Well, I guess I do understand...... there would be a few sales guides that might push Aulani as the "deal" even if it wasn't right for the guest. I don't think most would, but likely a handful....

What ... like those who pushed SSR in the early days? I was literally told, having been on the formal waitlist (backed by credit-card-on-file) for Dec-UY BWV, that my BWV-points had come in ... but the paperwork I received was for SSR. The rep said, "Oh, sorry, a mistake" but on the second round of paperwork the points were still for SSR with a 'better' UY. It was underhanded and dirty, even then (Spring 2004).
