My kids pay $1.50 for school lunch. Next year, all 3 will be in full day school. The school year is 180 days. $1.50x3x180= $810!!!!!!!

$1.50 still is very cheap for lunch, it is just when you add it up like that, yowsa!

DH works at the school DD goes to - This year and next it is just the two of them, and lunch is $3.50 per day, assuming you get the stock lunch. $3.50x2x180=$1260

The following year DD2 joins them. Even if the price doesn't change I'm going to need a second job possibly... let's see... $3.50x3x180=$1890

So much for what you save when you don't pay daycare anymore!!!

WOW! $3.50 for school lunch???? I thought it was bad when we lived in Plymouth, MA and the lunch went from $1.80 to $1.90!

Now you need to compare what it would cost to pack the lunch. You might be surprised to see how much that is too. We really do need to feed the poor kids once in a while. :teeth:

The cost at the small private school I teach at is $5 - $6 dollars daily depending on the choice. There is no cafeteria, the food must be brought in from local places.

When you consider what it would cost to pack a lunch, $1.50 sounds like a bargain to me. My husband and I brown bag it to work everyday and we still end up spending at least $20 a week on lunch supplies (drinks really add up). I know it seems like a lot, but it is probably a lot less than feeding the kid at home or packing their lunch.

MY 5th Graders school lunch is $3.50 a day. But they do not cater on Fridays -- it's bring your own.

Oh yes, I figured out a long time ago it is much cheaper to send them to school with $1.50. Plus, the school has so many CHOICES for lunch now, I don't even have to pack them a lunch on days when they serve something the kids won't eat. Standard everyday choices are pizza, chicken patty, breakfast(cereal, bagel and a yogurt), tuna sandwich or PB&J. Those are offered everyday. Main choice is what is different everyday.

The private school I went to HS in, had no cafeteria. But we had to bring our lunch everyday. I would of LOVED take out! LOL

Our kids buy lunch twice a week only. Usually Tues/Thurs ($1.75) but if there's something they like on a different day, they can swap. They like the "breakfast for lunch" the best, LOL. :flower:

Our school lunch is $2.00 but both of my dd's refuse to eat it. They say it's gross(I agree, lol) so they bring lunch everyday.

Our private school is $2.85. The local school district brings in our lunch just as they would for any of their schools. My kids are allowed to pick 3 times a month they want to have hot lunch and brown bag it the rest of the month. So 2.85x2(kids)x3(times a month)x9(months)=$153.90. Thats not too bad, but if you were to add up how much we spend on the lunchs they bring to school it would not be pretty!

Cost of Lunch : $2.25

Number of kids : 3

The happiness of not having to come up with
something to pack everyday:

PRICELESS!!!!!

My DS's school is strange. You can only buy lunch in weekly increments. So if he doesn't like something one day, too bad...I've already paid for it. It's $10 a week (so $360 a year..). We usually look over the menu when we get it each month and he decides if there are any weeks that he likes most of the food. they don't get any choices at his school either (public elementary school..) Just one meal a day. I agree it's a lot cheaper to buy hot lunch instead of packing lunches all week.

We pay $1.75 for DS. He likes most things. I would say he only brings cold lunch 2 - 3 times a month. Can't beat the price. If he took it every day, it would only be $315.

I make my kids pack thier own lunch and it cost way less than $1.50 per day per kid.

.16 per juice box (1.67 for 10)
.05 or less one piece of bread ( I get the big loaves for $1)
.25 per slice of lunchmeat (guestimate--can be less)
.20 per granola bar
.10-.15 carrot sticks

Thats way less than a $1. I mentally counted about 76 cents.
