I'm not looking for a debate on the merits of wearing matching t-shirts at Disney. I think it's cute and certainly would make it easier to spot your family in a crowd. I'm seeking opinions from those of you who would not wear matching t-shirts to Disneyworld, for whatever reason.

My DH is one of you. I like the idea, but he ABSOLUTELY WILL NOT wear matching t-shirts (I'm not talking about the large-group family reunion shirts; I mean just our family of four). :confused3 So I thought I would just have us all wear the same COLOR (everybody in a red shirt, for example; totally different shirt, but the same color - no graphic, design, etc. and the color of the shorts wouldn't matter). He's still not sure he will do that because he thinks it's kinda goofy-looking - no pun intended. For those of you who would not wear matching t-shirts, what are your thoughts about my "same color" idea? Is it still too much?

I am not the opinion group that you want but I'm gonna throw mine out there anyway. Boyfriend really didn't like the idea of all of us wearing the same shirt. So we did what you are thinking. Everyone wears the same COLOR. They are easier to spot in a crowd (think finding your party at a table in a packed CS restaurant or the child that wanders off in a store, no need to panic just look for the right color!). I convinced boyfriend because I think that the pictures look better when everyone is wearing the same color. I found a thread on here where a bunch of posters had posted their pics from vacation. The photos that looked really nice were the ones where everyone matched. We bought shirts at JoAnn and Micheals. Then we got iron ons and pics from the DISign board. Everyone picks out their own design. We have different shirts that are the same color. It works for us. My other suggestion would be to make (or buy) shirts for the family. Pack his with the knowledge and intent that he will not wear them. When/if he wants then you have them. If not, at least you and the kids match and you can spot them easily.

Disneyshopping.com has family shirts. Some are the Hawaiian type shirts. That might be worth a shot too.

I think it is a great idea. My husband is NOT into the matching tees either but he said he would be ok with us wearing all one color different shirts -- BUT we will have 7 of us -- What he doesn't know is maybe I will get pink, purple, lime green, etc --- joke's on him!!! HAHAHAHA (just kidding;)

We plan on doing this for our trip. Might have a day or two where we have identical shirts, but otherwise, try to have the same shirt color for the day...with little ones, I like the idea of being able to look for a specific color + we can tell them to look for that color when trying to find us.

I HATE HATE HATE matching shirts. JMHO, but if you can't keep track of your family without matching shirts, that is pretty bad!

That being said, my DH (yes, my husband, not my son!) is a wanderer and tends to "disappear" on us. He really is into bright colors right now and wore lots of bright greens, blues and orange on our trip. It was MUCH easier to keep track of him this trip. So, my suggestion is to just dress in bright colors, but you don't necessarily all have to wear the same color or "match".

We did matching shirts in August and our best day was our tie dye day. We all just wore tie dye shirts we already had and it was very easy to spot each other.

We will not be a matching shirts family. We think it looks strange. Besides, if you wear red, you're going to run into other people and children wearing red so I just don't see the point if the point is to easily spot your child or family member in a crowd.

That doesn't mean it doesn't have logic.

I look away for a few seconds and notice my son isn't right by me. He is wearing a blue shirt. So, as I scan my surroundings I can look specifically for a young boy (about 3.5 feet tall) in a blue shirt. So, no...it's not the same as having a big arrow constantly pointing down at him, but it still helps me narrow the target.

Plus, I agree with the person who commented about pictures. I think matching shirts or matching colors look nice in group photos.

DH wouldn't do the matchy thing so the rest of us matched and he wore whatever he wanted. I could get him to wear a mickey shirt the same day we wore our matching mickey/minnie shirts, but his was different.
My DH usually only wears black or white shirts so getting him to 'match' would be hard to do if it were any other color. I'm just happy he finally gave in and wore a mickey shirt (even has a few!)
I take what I can get and I don't sweat the small stuff.

For me, this is an absolute no and we are a family of four with two young kids...I don't see the need for matching shirts. When I first started going to Disney about 10 years ago, it just seemed odd to me...but it wasn't all that common...now, everyone has matching shirts and I still think it's odd and just a bit dorky. That's just my opinion...why does everyone try to outdo each other with the shirts? You still look like dorks. Just my opinion...not for me;)

I agree - I can't even imagine the look on DH's face if I suggested it! :lmao: However, my kids participate in SO many activities that they get tshirts for, so I brought them to WDW, and had them wear the same color on the same day, and then I tossed them - less luggage home!

Curious if your DH's are this fussy about what they wear to WDW, how do they feel about the trips in general?

Dh and I try to dress similar mainly for finding each other and because of taking pictures... I know sounds very dumb, but we don't go very often so I display the last trips pictures throughout our home until time to go again. We were talking about on this trip how we saw so many people that were matching, and he didn't mind the idea when we have kids, so it would be easy for our kids to remember what we are wearing as well.

Another who does it for the pictures

our 1st 3 trips we were not matchy then I found logo T shirts when they were marked WAY down so I started matching the kids I usualy went for the same color but not a logo I have outgrown pictures on my clothes.. Dh usually had on a white sports T shirt or plain polo ...

once we started "matching" we started getting to do fun stuff twice we have opened MK (once was just the kids waving wands the next year it was a train ride around the park with characters) we opened AK once and at MK we were asked to be in the parade once

no idea if the matching helps them pick people or it just happened that way but the kids swear it was matching and they always want to match now.
(I assumed by 12 and 10 the girls would HATE matching and if I suggested it at home they would freak out but on vacation they want to must be the magic :wizard:)

I can so relate! I am forever losing my DH. I have found that if he is wearing black or white it is so much harder to find him in the crowd.

I agree with those who don't care for the matching shirts. I try to coordinate the colors we are wearing somewhat so we don't clash in photos, but we are on vacation and I'm not going to have a meltdown over what shirt someone is wearing.

yeah, me too. The pictures look really good when everyone is coordinated. And honestly, I/we don't take a lot of pictures except for special occasions, birthdays, X-mas, WDW, etc. so it was nice to have some good family pictures of us.

No one and I mean no one who knows my DH would ever believe that he would wear a matching family shirt. Heck, that can't even believe that he keeps wanting to go back to Disney. But I have pictures (300 plus) to prove it...just look at the photo below. :lmao: He really got in the Disney spirit last trip. He wore the matching tie-dyes that I made, he wore matching Mickey shirts, and he wore matching Mickey head shirts that I made with bleach and stencils. Of course, he claims that it will never happen again. Hmmm...we'll see. :rolleyes1

How did you all get the mickey head in the tiedye????? I want DH to wear a matching shirt, but yeah probably not getting it unless I can get the kids to beg him to...he usually gives into them.

I actually first saw them here in the DIS. I'm pretty sure it was on the Creative Community section. They are quite the rage over there. :) Just do a thread search for "Tie Dye Mickey Head Shirts". There were hundreds of posts and several really good tutorials. There were also so many helpful tutorials on tie-dying that I found by doing a Google search. I was soooo intimidated to make them. My DH claims that I probably put in 80 hours of research/prep into those !#*@ shirts. Anyway, they were fun, turned out great, and we got loads of complements on them (even from the characters). I say go for it. :thumbsup2

Well....how about just the kids wear matching shirts? This is what I did with my family of four two weeks ago. But, this totally fits my personality anyway. I had more fun searching for themed shirts for my young boys - you can see their customized "first trip to WDW" shirts in my siggy pic - and they also had matching MM Clubhouse shirts and coordinated Pooh/Tigger shirts. DH and I did not match them, but we also did not color clash. It does look better in photos, especially when scrapbooking. In general I think it's very sweet when my sons match because it won't be long now at all before they form very strong opinions about what they will or will not wear, and to me they just look very young and innocent dressed this way.
