Has anyone purchased matching or custom shirts for a their group when visiting WDW? What was your experience?

We have been doing the matching shirts the last 4 times we went to WDW. I buy the shirts before we leave at either the Disney store or the disney shopping website and we wear them on our MK day. I think it's a lot of fun, but my teenaged DS who begrudginly wears his, thinks we all look like a bunch of goobers! While at MK we also visit the barbershop and have our hair colored and pixie dusted, so we get lots of attention! :rotfl2:

DH's hair is white and the kids talked him into green gel with a mickey head in the back, it was hilarious watching people's reactions! There were a lot of spanish-speaking people last time we were there and the kids and I were cracking up when they would point at Dh and start talking in spanish with these puzzled looks on their faces :rotfl2: DH ended up taking the bus back to our resort to wash his hair, party- pooper!! :rotfl:

Hi! I'm looking into this too. I had been hoping to get some matching shirts at the Disney Store this weekend as they were having an amazing sale on clearance t-shirts ($2.49 each!). Unfortunately, I couldn't find the same ones for everyone. (Of course, that didn't stop me from stocking up on shirts for the kids anyway :teeth: )

Here are two possibilities, though...

I've looked at the Disney Shopping site, and they have "You-Design-It Tees." You can choose from several styles of t-shirt and colors. There are many, many choices of pictures to put on, and you can also add names (I don't suggest doing that for children, though, since it isn't safe to put a child's name on their clothing), numbers (like a year), and you can also choose from a list of phrases. You can add the words and numbers to the front or back. I think the picture can only go on the front. The prices range from about $15-$20.

There is also a great forum on the Dis Boards called "Creative DISigns" under "Just for Fun." The folks over there do the cutest designs for shirts, bags, etc. I haven't made anything from there yet, but they seem like a wonderful group of people who love all things Disney. I'm sure they'd be happy to help you too.

I'm a "newbie," but I'm learning so much from reading these boards! I hope this helps!

We always do this; it's usually our "first trip to WDW...." and then we fill in as "as DVC members", or "with Grandma", etc.

We order them off the disneyshopping, and both times we got them on a good sale. (They are really comfortable too!) But now I think they only do the custom Zazzles ones on disneyshopping... not sure...

The CMs always read and comment on our shirts, as well as many tourists too; it's a good conversation starter.

My middle child and I designed shirts for the family on the Disney store web site. It took about 3weeks to get them. It was a cute idea, but I was a bit disappointed in the quality. The print on the shirt was a bit faded. Next year I'll probably use a different company.

There are some really, really cool tee-shirt designs from our fellow dis members right here on this site. I believe there is a section called creative Dis that has links to the designs. check it out. My computers acting weird so I can't add a link right now.

Thanks for your replies!
Hvivona,
Were the disappointing shirts from Zazzle? I am considering them. Thanks!

Yea, the shirts came from zazzle. They were cute, but like I said earlier, a bit faded looking.

There is also a "make your own Tee" section on the Disney Store website that is not affiliated with Zazzle, they are actual design your own Disney. I just received the ones that we designed and am very happy with the way they turned out.

The Disney store outsources the create-your-own shirts to Zazzle. I know this because about three weeks ago, I emailed the Disney store web site to find out when I'd receive my shirts and they said they couldn't give me a definate date because they come directly from Zazzle.

We always wear matching shirts for each day of our vacation.
We don't even bring any other shirts. We have enough for each day and extra.

We have short sleeved, long sleeved, & sweatshirts.

We have 5 matching sets with the Disney logo from Disneyshopping.com.

We have matching Lilo & Stitch shirts we created on that site also.

We have 2 matching sets of the Mickey swirl head shirts (I found these on the Creative DISigns forum...nkjzmom originally posted hers & I copied. They are soooo cool.

We also have several matching tie-dyed sets I made.

We also wear matching black or blue shorts with them each day.

**We learned from our first family trip that matching shirts are really fun to wear in the parks. Cast members notice & comment about them & the shirts look great in pictures!!

In my above post, I mention the Mickey swirl head shirts that nkjzmom posted on that site. Hers looked terrific so I tried them. It was really easy & mine came out exactly like hers.

We'll be wearing ours this weekend in WDW!!

We did the matching shirts on a family trip a couple weeks ago (not disney though) and I think it was a great idea. We had 6 boys (under the age of 10) and one teenage girl to keep up with at a Renaissance Faire. Our shirts were all yellow and made it easy to spot one of our party in a crowd and keep up with everyone else.

My wife bought us matching shirts once, except I noticed that mine didn't have the word "with" between the "I'm" and "stupid".

Hmmmm. . . .

We made our own shirts for our trip last year. I bought the t-shirts on sale at AC Moore and bought transfer paper. My DH and I made the design on the computer (our DDs got to help), then printed the design onto the transfer paper. Then I just had to iron it on to the t-shirts. It was real easy, and we got lots of comments from CMs when we wore them to MK.

We also did matching shirts on our recent trip. My dh wasn't so excited at first until he realized how much attention we were getting from CM's and how easy it was to keep track of all of the boys when in a crowd. I thought our pictures came out great, too, which was an added bonus!

We bought matching Hawaiian shirts (men's) at Walmart and an extra one that my mom is going to cut up and make a sunsuit for our little guy - so he can match us too!

I also ordered tshirts that say
I  my husband and his says I  my wife.
We'll wear those, maybe on our Anniversary day.

it's fun and I'm so thankful to have a DH who is willing! I know several who would not get into doing this at all!

We went last August and I matched my kids each night in the park. Not always in Disney stuff, but always matching. Very challenging to match DS(2) and DD(4) without having my ds look goofy, but I managed! They got A LOT of extra attention from the characters, A LOT! I have already started shopping for this August, with my DH's blessing- I made a believer out of him after all the attention!

Okay , crafty DISers, please guide me along the path of transfers tshirts. I am going to try to make one and if it works out, I'll make the rest.

First of all, where do I get the transfer paper?

Do I use a regular printer?

How do I create the image/words? Can I just create it in Word Perfect using the image as clip art?

How will this image hold up to washings, etc?

Finally, what is final cost usually per shirt (for a good quality cotton tshirt)? If it is the same as buying a shirt, I probably won't bother. :thumbsup2

Thank you!!!

There are personalized shirts that are not Zazzle. If you do a search on the Disneyshopping website you would look up create-your-own personalized tees It does not direct you to the Zazzle page, you stay on Disney shopping. There are only about 16 art designs to choose from and you can only get standard white. It does however let you put any phrase you want on it and mine were shipped out quickly. So at least from my experience and from what I have read on other board posts these are different that the zazzle shirts.
