Matching shirts thoughts?

Worth it or not? Seems like a lot of waste to buy 5-7 new t-shirts for everyone.. Even if they are cheap seems wasteful. Thoughts or experiences???

We did matching shirts for 1 day of our vacation, not every day. We had a lot of fun making our own design (iron-on design we printed on the computer). And we got several compliments/comments from cast members when we wore them. I would want the hassle of planning a shirt for every day of our stay though.

Hmm just doing the first day or MK day would be cute. Good point

We typically do one new matching shirt each trip. For the other days I just try to get everyone in the same color family.

I finally made some shirts for my boys that didn't look terrible (I am awful at crafts....) But I made them after our last trip.... For our next trip, I plan on one day of matching as a family, and I might make my boys another set depending on how they look. Other than that, I coordinate our colors, and the boys sometimes match (though it's usually just a similar, but coordinating, outfit....khaki shirts with a blue shirt type thing....I think it helps to be able to glance around and know where they are.) My hubby tolerates coordinating colors, but he's not into matching....so even if we all have special shirts, I'm sure everyone's well be a little different. I also don't buy new clothes for Disney trips(except for maybe shoes, but only if there's enough time to get them broken in...) They have enough clothing, though, and we'll usually come home with a shirt or two anyway. I'd rather spend the money on our trip!

We usually get new clothes for our major vacations anyways so making matching tshirts was not that expensive and we had fun making them. DH helped cut out the iron ons since I tend to just hack away with scissors. Obviously since we chose to do them we did not feel they were wasteful. Your post seems to shout that you feel they are wasteful so you probably wouldn't enjoy them as much.

I had matching shirts for every day of our trip mostly because we have several young children and it was easy for them to remember what color we were wearing if they got seperated from us. Each day we had shirt for HS, then mousehead safari design for AK, Snow white and the 7 dwarfs for 1 day at Epcot, Cupcakes for 6 of us and a birthday shirt for my daugters birthday 1 day. It was fun and we had a great time talking to other families about the shirts and how they wish they thought about that. For our next trip I will do it again.

We do "theme" days where not everybody is matching, and it kind of started out as a coincidence.
The first one was when my husband saw rainbow muppet shirts, and thought they were so fun we should get one for everybody. Then we found out that our trip that year coincided with Gay Days, so how could we not? If you want to see the pic is in my Dec 2012 TR, on the second page when I introduced myself.
This last trip we wanted to get pirate shirts for the kids that they would be comfortable wearing all day after Pirate's League, then when we bought them we saw funny ones for the adults ... and this is what we ended up with, mostly matching (the girl is a mermaid). Lots of pirate jokes.

Then we're all Star Wars fans so most of us already owned Star Wars shirts and on DHS day we put those on ... here are the kids, you can kind of see the shirts.

The non-matching matching is kind of fun, KWIM? Plus then some people can use shirts they already own ... eg, everybody do animal shirts on AK day. Makes for neat Photopass pix.

My husband would never go for this...how does everyone get their husband on board? LOL

I used to dress my kids in similar outfits - same design, different colors;that was easy since I did most of their shopping at Children's Place, back when the kids' clothing looked like kids' clothing, not little hoochie-wannabe clothing.

We have one day of similar t-shirts planned for our next trip. We all got the same style quick-dry v-neck tshirts at Target, but they are all different colors.

I think printed shirts are too busy in photos if there are more than 2 people wearing them. Kind of takes away from the faces and the location.

I am making shirts for us. I bought some packs of plain white hanes shirts in the appropriate sizes (mine are men's V-neck. Men's packs contain more than girls do so that makes them cheaper, and the V-neck makes them slightly more feminine.) and a huge pack of iron-on's. I found tons of super-cute designs on the DISign board here and am going to print those. I have 1 for each day of our trip. The littlest one is going to get half-size pictures, so I can print two shirts per page for his.

My husband would never go for this...how does everyone get their husband on board? LOL
As for my SO, well, he just doesn't give a darn. He doesn't care what he wears, he isn't self-conscious AT ALL (he embarrasses me sometimes...), so when I presented the idea he was pretty much like 'okay, whatever'.

When we did WDW in November we did more of the coordinating outfit type thing. I really think that's the best I can hope for from DH. But also, I really prefer it. That said, it was just our immediate family and our kids aren't that young.

Next trip is DLR 50th Anniversary for my in-laws and I'm thinking about doing matching shirts for the whole group, up to 23! But I think the same color, varying designs is a good idea. I was also thinking of doing some of the cut and tie design stuff for the girls in the group to change it up a little.

I like the idea of men's V-neck for the ladies, maybe cut and tied as well. Hmmm! Thanks for the idea!:woohoo:

Adorable!! I love the theme days option not just all in blue or whatnot

I grew up in Florida and went to Disney quite a lot and never wore matching shirts. I now live in WI and have a family and when we took our kids for the first time we wore matching shirts 4 of our 6day trip. This was after finding disboards and realizing it was just what we were supposed to do;) We are going back in August and we all have lots of disney shirts but none of them match! It was a lot of work to make them but it was fun to wear them- just not worth it this time around! Hope you have fun on your trip no matter what you wear!!

I am a photo-holic and when I read somewhere that it's easier to piece together random pictures if you pick a color or theme for each day, I was sold.

As far as the husband thing goes, mine just basically said "whatever you want!". There are bigger issues in the world to worry about than if he looks goofy at Disney World. (Pun totally intended)

Our 1st big family trip with 45 of us. We had matching shirts for 2 events. It was pretty neat.

If you want to do matching shirts, but don't want to spend alot of money, then do it just one day. I myself have never left the Louisville Metro area, but every one I know buys new clothes when going out of town, even for a funeral. We will be getting new clothes for our trip. We are going to do matching "First Timers" shirts on the first day. My DH will wear it because I said so. lol

Instead of 'matching' think 'similar', and consider what you already own. When we went last time, I coordinated but we bought very little. One day we all wore UConn shirts (we already had), then one day I found "ORANGE" shirts for all of us (DD had a tank top, I had a polo, DH a button up casual shirt and DS a tshirt), another day we all work mickey shirts (two of us already had them, two of us got new ones). Another day we all wore NASCAR Shirts, again, we alredy had them. I did make a couple days of matching'ish' tye dies for us.

I do usually buy a bunch of new clothes for a big trip like Disney (we always all go with all brand new socks and underwear), but not everything, and anything I buy is going to last a long time anyway, so it's just part of the clothes budget.
