Ok so this might seem like an odd question.

I am from England and I have never seen this here but at WDW I have often seen families all wearing clothes from the same fabric. Most memorably, I saw a family at Ohanas at the Poly and the mum and daughter had dresses and the dad had a shirt all made from a really nice tropical fabric. Do people get these made? Or can you buy them? I always think it looks so cute, just wondered if there was any kind of story behind it. Any info?

I haven't sewn shirts for Disney but have tie-dyed shirts for in the parks. I tie dyed a mickey mouse head onto shirts and we wore them all day at Animal Kingdom and for Fantasmic. I also tie dyed red shirts and ironed on the Incredible family (each person...mom on mom dad on dad....) you get the idea for our day in MGM. We get a lot of compliments and even some little perks from CM's. Plus, we never get lost and everyone knows we are together for rides. I really like it. I can sew but we hardly ever get a chance to really change before supper. I think it would be cool to wear them at Ohana's. I am sure you could order it somewhere but for a big price. I bet they are homemade. I can let you know the tie dye pattern for mickey heads if you let me know. :sunny: :love2:

I live in Hawaii and there are numerous shops here that make dresses, shirts, skirts, etc out of the same material. For our wedding anniversary celebration DH, DD & I all wore matching fabric outfits. Can be considered tacky to some but I loved it :cloud9:
We got ours from Hawaiian Moon (Cinnamon Girl also make dresses for women and girls that can be from the same material). I don't think there is a significance or a story behind it but you'll see it around in Hawaii. Might try google hawaiian moon if you're interested.

Mom and daughter outfits are popular around the holidays like Easter and Christmas, but I'll admit I haven't seen too many items in regular catalogs or stores. The Disney catalog does offer same items in many different sizes, everything from T's to velvet holiday smocks, and most unusual, it offers both for males and females--I'd start there. I agree it's a very cute look.:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

I've not done matching mother - daughter outfits, but I have bought matching childrens' outfits from the Disney catalog. The earliest set was when my kids were all toddlers, I bought denim outfits embroidered with "Bear in the Big Blue House". The pictures from the MGM show of them are really cute!!

I've alwaysed noticed the matching outfit thing at WDW and last year joined in. DM and I found fabric for tropical shirts and made them for our dinner at Ohanas. While at WDW last year we also found blue tye dye flower and garden show t shirt. This year when it was just DD and I we'd found some pretty tye dye shirt from a street vendor at a festival here and then TDS had some matching Minnie shirts. We got lots of comments on our matching outfits. We don't usually match on purpose outside of vacation..this year we even had matching tennis shoes..it's fun and if DD is ever lost since she does have language issues all I have to say is she's dressed just like this. :flower:

In diffrent seasons Gymboree makes matching family outfits. We have a couple of diffrent outfits for DS and DD to wear and also my DS and DH as well. You can have your whole family match :cool1:

some people order them from disneydirect.com or disneyinkshop.com through zazzle you can select different characters, colors & personalizations like names & dates. others make their own as a family project with tiedye, paint or fabric markers. i think matching tshirts are so cute.

I make our own unique Hawaiian shirts from material I purchase when we visit Hawaii. The bright colors and unique prints helps us to find each other in a crowd. We get lots of compliments on the matching shirts. We have also used brightly colored T-shirts and polos. You can try Hilo Hattie's for a good selection of men's, women's, boy's, girl's and infant's matching clothes. Log on to hilohattie.com.

Our last couple of trips have included extended family members. We have made an effort to match the kids. It makes for great pictures and it helps us keep track of our kids in the park. The adults have even started wanting to participate, especially if we are all dining together. We have gotten some really good deals at DisneyDirect.com and the Disney Store on some of our matching outfits (during clearance sales). I have even found cute Disney character clothing at other retailers like Walmart for the kids.

I :confused3 think you are talking about the matching outfits they have at DisneyDirect.com. They have a different tropical/disney print every year! My DH would NEVER EVER EVER go for this, but I think it would be adorable for the 4 of us to wear! I just can't get him to do it...

There are matching clothes in all sizes at the Disney Resorts shops. I noticed it last time we were there. Our whole family from size 2T (baby clothes) up to size XXXL could have gotten the same shirts...it was winter so they were sweat shirts. I have seen the prints during the summer and they are also in the Resort shops.

I have twins and the ONLY time I match them is at Disney. Sometimes it is easier to spot a shirt than a child.
