Do you do this? Do you look at the whole picture (house and all), or just the garden? :)

My house is beige with dark brown trim, and I used to avoid using pink flowers because I didn't think it looked right. I mostly stuck with reds, yellows, and of course, because they're my favourite, blue flowers.

In the last couple of years I've finally added some pink (not just in containers). Maybe it's an age thing. Perhaps I've started caring less about co-ordinating my accessories. ;)

Am I alone in this? :p

No Kim, you are not alone.....if it's pretty or strikes my fancy, then I plant it...I can;t match my clothes let alone a garden to my house..LOL

I like pink and beige! :teeth:

I plant whatever I like, as well, but I did choose to have my house yellow. Yellow makes one of my favorite colors (purple) really stand out.

Hmmm. I've never really thought about that. Of course, both houses we've had were painted neutral and would go with any color.

Speaking of house colors, what combination do you like? We need to paint this year and I want something new. Sounds like a new thread to me...

I don't try to color coordinate my flowers with my house. I have enough trouble coordinating the light requirements.

I have a lot of shade in the from of my house so I plant impatiens there because that is all that thrives. I'm just glad to have color at all in that part :)

I never even thought about coordinating it. My houses have always been neutral. This one is beige with green shutters and door.

I like to think I plant by color, size and shape. With regard to sun and temp. In the front yard I stick with traditional bedding flower combos. In the back yard there's prob no pattern to my garden madness. It's more impulse. See it, buy it, plant it. I do the plant shuffle a lot. As a result I have a cottage garden catchall look going on in the backyard.

Color coordinate my house and flowers? :rotfl: If I like it and I have a good spot for it I buy it. ;) Our house is gray so I don't think there is any colors that would look really bad with it.

I knew I should of posted about this in disguise!! :o I know, it sounds pretty bad, but I really used to do it! :p

I've lightened up in the last few years....lol. :teeth:

It sounds like a brilliant idea, I only wish I could think like that. I'm just garden green with jealousy. ::yes::

Yeah, I'm that crazy...

Last fall we redid the exterior of our home from red to taupe. I'll be planting orange impatiens everywhere. That or deep purple depending on my mood.

Some years I adhere to a color scheme very rigidly. Other years I don't care. But I usually try to coordinate with my house color.

This year will be especially fun because it's a new color! Out with the old and in with the new.....

Yup.... been doing it for years! For about 7 years our house was yucky dark brown/stained wood color.... I always went with light/bright colors to perk up the house. About three years ago we changed it to barn red. I go with lots of reds and yellows now in the window boxes and yellow, white and purple in the grounds around the house. But if I have something I like that does well (like the native daylilies that are orange) I just leave them be. I'm not that fanatic!! And the flower beds that are further away from the house I don't worry about coordinating....P
