I am notoriously terrible at keeping up with these things, but I thought it could be a good way to keep track of my planning stuff. So here goes nothing!

I'm Jess, and he's Mat.

About 5 months after we started dating, at our friends' wedding. Mat's hair is a lot longer now :rotfl2:

We are both from Michigan, but we are moving to the metro DC area very soon (June!!). We have been together for 3 years (as of a couple weeks ago), and we currently live together with our 3 kitties, Cali, Leela, and Fry.

I'm a borderline cat lady...fair warning.

I am currently working on a master's degree in library and information science, graduating in December. Mat's finishing up a master's degree in physics this summer. Neither of us took any time off between undergrad and grad school (and Mat took 6 years to get his undergrad!), so needless to say, we are both pretty sick of school! We are moving to the DC area because I have to do an internship for my degree, and was offered a rather prestigious internship with a federal agency. The job market for both of us is pretty terrible in MI, so we figured we would move for my internship and (hopefully) find work in the fall.

How did we meet? It's kind of boring and pretty terrible. I was super into his little brother in his fraternity, and kept asking him for boy advice. Little did I know, he had a crush on me the whole time! I led him on for awhile (I am so ashamed now and don't like to talk about it...) and eventually gave up the act and let him into my life. The rest is history!

Why Disney? We're both crazy about WDW! My parents have been DVC members since I was 8, and WDW has just always been my happy place. Mat had been before he met me, but I'm sure I am mostly responsible for his fandom as of late. As for the wedding? Oddly enough, even though I love planning and organizing things (I am studying to be a librarian, after all!), the thought of getting everything together for a wedding was stressing. me. out. Additionally, we both have very small families and not very many close friends. When I explained to my mom that it would be less stressful and more cost-effective to do an Escape wedding, she was on board (even after telling me multiple times I would NEVER get married at WDW)!

Tentative plans: Since we're an Escape couple, we can't officially book until August, but I did call and get my name on the books a few weeks ago. We are planning a ceremony at Sea Breeze Point on April 13, 2013. Boardwalk is my family's home resort, so it was certainly fitting. We're planning a reception dinner at Il Mulino, followed by an Illuminations DP.

We are heading to the World May 13-20, and I'm so excited! We got engaged on our last trip...details in the next post! :cool1:

So...I knew it was coming, mostly because I picked out my ring and was there when he bought it. And that's okay, because I've never been the type to wear jewelry, so I had no idea what I'd like!

We went for a quick Labor Day trip to WDW, and our first stop was a lunch ADR at Yak and Yeti in AK. After we finished, I wanted to go ride EE, since we were RIGHT THERE! Mat says no, let's go for a walk. I continued to argue my case...why would we go way out of the way just to come back and ride? After a few minutes of this, we were both frustrated, and I finally just followed him. He found this nondescript path with nothing going on, and says, let's go check this out! (I later found out there was a character meet and greet at the end of the path).

Safely out of view of other park guests, he pulls this baby out:

I totally had to stop and take a picture before I put the ring on. :rotfl:

Guido from Cars is one of my favorite Pixar characters, and he found a little Guido to fit into the ring box! It was basically the cutest thing ever, and it was perfect. :)

Later, we went on Splash, and took this "engagement picture", since nobody was around to see the actual thing:

That's all for now!

Yay for a new PJ! And welcome from another Escape bride :) I love your engagement story and the Splash Mtn pic. Soo cute! Your engagement reminds me of ours...Except we were in MK, and DH was acting all weird, trying to hurry me over to the castle to see the princess show (this was 2005, so I can't remember what it was called) and all I wanted was to finish my Dole Whip! I was so mad that he was rushing me! I too tried to argue with him to just let me enjoy my dole whip and he would have none of it! :lmao: All worth it in the end though! Beautiful ring. And Guido! What a great touch to your proposal. So cute.

Can't wait for more updates!

Beautiful so far!

Love reading about other escape brides that I can live vicariously through for the next 2.5 years!

Good luck with all your planning!! xx
