Due to a very major water line freeze and break - it took 2 days just to get the massive iceberg melted - it looks like we are pretty much going to be getting a new master bath.

There are 5 sub floor boards that have to be pulled and replaced. This is going to cause them to have to pull both our garden jetted tub and our full size shower. Per the contractor, from the insurance company, he is 99% sure they will not be reuseable, as they will not survive being taken out. All the flooring has to be pulled. Several walls are being fixed due to water creeping up them. So, with that all being done, right now the only two things not damaged is the vanity/sink and the toilet.

If it was yours, would you talk to the contractor and find out how much they would charge you to just go ahead and replace both the vanity/sink and toilet while they are doing the rest or would you just leave them alone. Both are almost 13 years old. We had been talking about replacing the vanity as it is pretty narly looking. It's just a cheap pressboard with the laminated walnut covering. The covering is peeling in several spots - one drawer has no covering on it at all.

Speaking as someone whose entire master bath is gutted of everything but the tub at the moment (and we're pulling that out next week!), I say go for it!!

If I could afford to do it, and it was on the TO DO list anyway, this is a golden opportunity to be able to cross it off the list. Go for it.

Definately redo the whole thing. If you shop smart, it probably won't be a whole lot more. Makes sense to do it now, while you already have a contractor there.

Of course you replace it. If you don't you will be sorry because if you think it looks bad now, wait until there is new stuff in the bathroom. It will make it ten times more ugly.;)
