Not sure where to post this so forgive me mods if I'm in the wrong place,

SIL has talked me into going to the spa while we are in WDW.

Hoping someone can help me out. Not used to pampering myself so I am ignorant to the varieties of massages that I was just reading about on the Disney web site.

Does anyone have any suggestions on which on to choose? Also has anyone been to the Spa's while @ WDW?

Thanks,
Lisa

I have been to both Spa's and enjoy them both for very different reasons. I think a great massage is the Swiss Massage. If you do the full hour it is usually a full body massage. Heavenly! I hope you enjoy your treatment:)

Thanks so much Dan & Jana, both were very helpful and informative. I'm sure I will enjoy this, as it isn't something I would usually treat myself to.

I told DH it's my equivalent to his golfing. Sounded logical enough to me & he bought it. lol

The Spa at the Disney Institute is considered the best on property.

Since this resort is currently in the process of being converted to the Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, Disney is providing transportation to the facility from the other resorts. (There are no buses running there at the moment.)

It's a wonderful treat. I had my first massage while on the Disney Magic and I got hooked on them.:D

Pick a nice looooooong one. It's so relaxing.

I had a massage when I stayed at the GF 2 years ago. The spa located next to the GF but not affiliated with them was very good. I was able to use the health club before heading over for my massage

-Enjoy!!! :)

I've only had a massage at the GF and it was excellent, but like Regina said, I have heard that the Saratoga Springs is even better!

I am thinking of giving a massage as a anniversary gift to my husband while we are in Disney. About how much does an hour massage cost?

THANKS

HI,

I just received the brochure on all the ammenities that the spa offers. As far as massages go it depends on which type you are interesed in but.... @ Saratoga Springs (and I would think they are the same regardless).

They have,

Aromatherapy Massage .. 50 min= $90.00
Custom Theraputic Massage 50 mins= 90.00
Pre-Natal 50 mins= $90.00 ( I know this doesn't apply to your DH but if someone else was interested)
Reflexology Massage 25 mins = $55.00
Sports Massage 50 mins = $90.00
Stone Massage 50 min =$90.00, 80 mins = $120.00
Swedish Massage 25 mins = $55.00, 50 mins = $90.00, 80 mins = $120.00

Feel free to call to have them mail you a brochure as they are very helpful in describing which you/he would choose... as well as visiting online with the links that Dan Murphy provided for me.

Hope this Helps, And welcome to the Dis! Lisa

Although I haven't yet indulged at DW for a massage...had them many other places. Like pedicures for some, I was really hesitant to do it. The thought of a stranger touching me was, well, gross.

Finally DH shamed me into going one time in Vegas and am I hooked. When I want to splurge.....pedicures and massages RULE! Even did a mud bath on our last trip (in Napa)! A mighty different, yet refreshing experience.

For those who have that same 'fear' that I did, while you are semi-naked, a good massuese will NEVER do anything or touch you anywhere that makes you uncomfortable! A good one will generally ask what areas you want them to concentrate on. I usually say my back, legs and arms....that's pretty much where they touch. They leave the private areas, private.

Here's how it works. The massuese generally greets you and asks about the areas that are troubling you. They will then ask you to disrobe and get under a sheet on the table on your stomach. They then leave and come back with a gentle tap on the door. That sheet (which is more like a huge towel and sheet combination) never comes off. They either peel it back or work under it. So, for those who are modest (like me), they never really see you fully naked. Most masseuses I have been to are pretty intuitive about how modest you are and take their cue from you.

I generally go with the therapeutic massage, but have heard that the stone massage is fantastic. I'm going to try that next. I was almost 40 years old before I had my first massage...I sure wish I had been talked into it sooner. Nothing is better than a massage to make your aching legs and feet rejuevenate! Be warned, though, that for many (including moi), a nap is absolutely mandatory after it. I've even fallen asleep while they are doing it...well, more like went into twilight sleep...I know what's going on at some level but am not really fully awake. It's that relaxing.

Don't know why I've never done it at Disney...given how much wear and tear I put on my back and legs. But during our next trip, you better believe I'll be making an appointment!!
