Has anyone had any luck with a massage at Massage Envy? Looking to buy someone a gift certificate. Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Yes, yes, yes. I've been a member for probably a year or so now. I only went 3 times before finding a therapist I love so much I won't go to anyone else. But, the other 2 massages were very good, too. You let them know what you want and they'll put you with someone who can do it. Great place!

Right now they have a special for $49 for the first massage. Do you know if you have to join after or can you just try them out?

As crisi said, you don't have to join. I did after my first visit, but I suspected I'd do so, going into it. My monthly rate is $59, which includes one massage per month. Not sure if monthly membership rates are still the same or not. I priced it out, comparing to other spas in the area and found Massage Envy to be a good bargain. I usually save up my monthly massages and use them 2 at a time for a 2 hour massage. Although, I really should be going at least once a month. Anyway, I've never felt them to be high pressure, so while I'm certain there will be a pitch to join, it won't be a hard pitch.

I've always been interested. How does it all work?

Wow that's a great rate! Definitely need to check into it!

1st massage is $59, subsequent for month is $39. I do every other week. I go to same therapist each time and she is great. Membership is month to month so I can cancel at any time without being penalized.

I pay $49 a month and as previously said its $39 for any additional massages. I do enjoy going there but you have to find a good therapist.

However, I must warn you - I bought my sister a gift card to Massage Envy based on the price it would be at my store, unfortunately her store cost more than mine, so she had to make up the difference. I was a little embarrassed and now I check and ask specifically - how much would an hour massage cost for this specific person. You never know they may have already used their introductory offer and have to pay extra for the massage.

If you are a member, it is $59/month for a 50-minute massage and then $39 for each extra 50-minute massage within your one month cycle. There is a paid membership in the beginning (contract term of 6 months to 1 year) and then it's month to month.

If you have friends who are members, each member can bring someone else in, once every six months (the same person can be brought only twice per year of the membership) but I don't think there is a limit as to how many people the member can bring in, for the member rate.

Here, in Southern California (in the Inland Empire), the introductory rate is $39 for the 50-minute massage and $49 for the 50-minute facial (so, if you decide you want the facial instead of the massage, you pay an extra $10). You can get a discount on the monthly dues if you are a police officer or member of some other types of government. Or, if you are the second person in the household, you pay $10 less per month. I'm not sure if you can do the introductory rate for both the massage and facial.

I had a similar problem. My father-in-law bought me a gift card for a massage for Christmas. They charged him $39 dollars (the introductory rate) with no explaination that it would not work for anyone who has ever been to massage envy before.

He had purchased me the same gift certificate for christmas the year before, but since now it was my 2nd time - the introductory rate did not apply to me - but no one explained this to him. He just bought a gift card that said good for a one hour massage. It is not like he is short on money, he would have paid the difference for a non-first time massage (I think around 60?) but he didn't know.

When I went in to get my massage they said I owed them around 20 more for the massage, plus tip. I was expecting to pay tip, but thought the gift card would cover the massage. There shouldn't be different prices for your first time versus subsequent times, or they should explain this to people buying the gift cards. He buys me one every year and I had to have my husband explain to him to mention it is not my first massage - he was embarrassed that I had to pay out of pocket. He never wanted that to happen.
