Mass. residents. How do you fly?

Really! We're just east of Worcester and have never considered Manchester. I may have to amend this thinking. How is the parking there? My cousin actually had her wedding reception there many, many years ago but I don't remember how to get there or anything about the airport itself. Might be time to rethink my options.

Manchester is a fabulous airport! Very easy to get to also - I am sure there are good directions on their website. They have many long term parking lots. The Highlander Inn has long term parking also. We never go to Logan anymore.

You should really look into it next time you fly - SW always has great deals if you keep your eyes open!

HTH,
Kristi :)

We usually fly Song or Jetblue and flew AA once when they had a GREAT, short sale and I got our tickets for $100 RT!!

I prefer Jetblue but sometimes it's hard for me to have the patience to wait for their dates to be released. This year, I am waiting due to what's going on with Song. My girls LOVE and now expect the TVs and Song/Delta can no longer guarantee the TVs. Also, Jetblue offers a snack and Song doesn't. Also, my flight times have never changed with Jetblue but they ALWAYS do with Song. Also, Jetblue has always come out cheaper then SOng/Delta.

Having said that, I'd go with the cheapest tickets I can find between Jetblue, Song and AA as long as it's great times and non-stop.

They're messing with times now!! Took away my dh's 7 pm flight and changed it to 4:55 with a stop at JFK...so not acceptable. I really want dh and dd flying direct, and the 7:00 flight was perfect. I also thought that once they put those times up, that was it..no changes. Not anymore I guess. And I have a feeling this flight is going to change again. I paid $79 pp when I booked it in early Feb. Last week, when the time changed (along with the stop in JFK), the price went to $294. Now it's at $199. Wonder why.

Just want to point out to our friends in the Boston area that there's a whole nother half of a state over here :) and us Western MA folks tend to fly out of BDL or ALB. I'll use Bradley about 95% of the time, with Albany as a backup. Albany is about as long a drive as Logan, but I know I'm never going to get stuck in traffic or in a tunnel. Also, it is just soooo much easier geting in and around the smaller regional airports. Besides, Southwest flies to both, and I'm a huge SW fan.

As you might guess given my preference for Southwest and smaller airports, I'd probably drive up to Manchester or down to TF Green before heading into Logan if I lived back East.

And I must be just a bit further west than you. :)

Albany is closer than BDL and ALB is our preference. We fly SWA a few times a year. The only time we have had a problem is when there was a large snowstorm in Baltimore the night before and our crew could not get into Albany.

I know it's a cattle call, but SWA employees are soooooo nice.

We live in Worcester county. We really don't like Delta or going into Logan but we always seem to do that. We are going in July and will be flying Delta out of Boston again. I got round trip for $217 pp (booked a couple months ago). The day that SW fares came out, I checked our dates and the lowest price out of Providence was $280 and the flight times to get a non-stop were very inconvenient. Jet Blue was so much more $ that I never even really considered it.

Everybody always talks about their great SW deals, but somehow they are never there when I am flying.

I know exactly what you mean. I went back and forth between JetBlue and Song constantly last year. I always came up with a cheaper fare with Song. We try to fly Delta/Song because it only takes us about 40-45 minutes to get to Logan but an hour to TF Green. I did fly SW once and that was very last minute. I must have been online just as they released some terrific fares. I booke a flight to Orlando for about $90 R/T. My dd was very surprised when I told her we were going to WDW the next week, but you just can't pass up fares like that. But.....that's the only time I have found a really good fare with SW...I'm always a day late and a dollar short it seems!

It's PVD or BDL for us.

we exclusively fly out of PVD. we're just south of worcester and it only takes about 40 mins to get there

Crazywig, I could've written this! :) Now you need to share WHERE the Krispy Kreme is! :teeth:

We live just South of Worcester, right near Rte. 146, so travelling to PVD to fly Southwest is always our first choice -- only about 40 minutes. Driving about 50-55 (?) minutes or so to BDL for SW is our second choice, just because of the extra time. Though, until lately, BDL usually had cheaper SW fares -- but not the last two times! PVD had them beat by a mile. PVD is smaller than BDL, too, and seems easier to get in and out of.

For us, driving to Logan, no matter how good the price looks for JetBlue or Song, is just not worth the hassle. Finding parking and paying more, getting stuck in traffic, more chance of delayed flights, a much bigger airport, etc., just turn us off. Although many say the Williams Tunnel has made a huge difference in the drive, but we just haven't gotten up the courage! :)

I too was one of those diehards that would try to avoid Logan at all costs but having flown out of Logan lately for business purposes, I would have to say that I am very impressed. Logan is NOT the Logan that it was years ago....it has improved greatly. I live closer to PVD but flight times and connections do not always make PVD a better airport.

MY husband took 2 different routes to and from Manchester. On the way up there he took Rt.190-Rt2 -495N up to Manchester and we had a 8:30 flt,so we didn't hit any traffic and on the way home he took the back roads (Rt 13) out of Manchester into Leominster and then Rt 190 to home.I myself perfer the 495 route! Maybe a 1 hr. drive. Like I said we got a non-stop flt. for $49 eachway...roundtrip was about $115 total(I think)...I couldn't pass that up !!!

I'm a South Shore guy. I will fly whoever has the best price and lately it's been SW out of PVD. Most of the schedules are the same so I'm not fussy and it's far easier to fly out of Green than Logan.

I really like JetBlue, but not what their fares have been recently.

I have done PVD, BOS and BDL. One of these days I'm going to try Allegiant out of Worcester as Sanford is 10 minutes from my FL house. I just wish they had a better schedule.

Totally agree. I would even drive to Logan myself now. It's just a straight shot and very easy. We have even left our house at peak times (8 am) and still made it to Logan for 9:00. And if you use Terminal A, Delta, it's even better.
But, I think I may start looking at Manchester flights now also.

ITA with this. When we fly out of Logan, we generally get a ride to the Braintree Logan Express for our departure, and hire a car service for our trip home. Doing it that way is cheaper for us, than parking for the week. But getting in and out of Logan is getting easier and easier, as they finish up the Big Dig. It's not bad at all, really.

We took Delta Song last year and loved it (the tv screens helped pass the time). But I'm concerned about them because of the bankruptcy filing, all the complaints of flight times being changed, and because I heard they were getting rid of Song.

Who do you prefer to use out of Logan? Delta? JetBlue? Or do you use Providence (SouthWest)?

Who would you recommend or NOT recommend?

Thanks! :)
We used Song, Delta, American, Continental and Southwest from Manchester, NH.
Delta has been the worst about overbooking and cancelling flights. We pretty much go with whoever has the lowest fair on the dates we want. I think they are pretty comparable. jet Blue is the nicest but never seem to have rates low enough. We are going on SW in April. With Ding it was 59. each way but we have red eye flight down.

We have always flew out of logan on Song/Delta. But pricing delta for our
upcoming trip in nov/06 2days ago Rt for the times we wanted to leave
were 217.00 pp but know they jumped up to 400 to 500 pp.
Crazy!! Just can't wait for Jet Blue to come out with their Nov fares.
Takes so long... :wizard:

Yeah, I really wish all the fares were out now. We're going in Oct. Delta's fares are out ($220 pp rt) but JetBlue and SW don't have October fares yet and won't for months. :(

live spitting distance to BDL, actually about 10 minutes away and DD goes to college in Providence so we're looking at either of those options. NO STOPS, I hate to fly and the thought of landing & taking off more than once freaks me out. Delta flights have changed a couple times and the price increase over the last week or so has been significant. SWA doesn't have flights out for us yet, 8/25 to 9/3. I try to look every day and have ding although haven't gotten one in a while. Anything else I should be doing besides growing wings??

As a Song/Delta/JetBlue/best deal fan, I can go one better than what Delta's telling you. The Song jets will be reassigned to long-distance flights of 1,750 miles or more. These are the flights that will have the tv in the seatbacks. It's been a while since I've been on an actual Delta flight but to the best of my recollection they do NOT have tv screens - just the displays that come down from overhead in the aisle.
As for food, passengers are welcome to bring their own food on any airline's planes (I'm not even going to go into my diatribe about why we don't feel we can survive without food for three hours :)).
And regarding cheaper, well, I'm perfectly willing to fly multiple airlines to get the best deal; I've been able to match Song with Jetblue, and the reverse, but by planning ahead I've never found one of them offering 'better' prices than the other.

I really want dh and dd flying direct, and the 7:00 flight was perfect.
Another bit of confusing travel terminology that needs to be better understood by customers so they know exactly what they're getting:
A "direct" flight means one plane that flies from point A to point B, with a stop at point C in between (and possibly even point D). The plane takes off, lands somewhere, some people get off, others board, the plane takes off again and probably flies to your destination.
A "non-stop" flight is probably what people mean when they say 'direct'. A non-stop flight doesn't stop between the point of originaition and the destination.

More terminology :teeth:
The red-eye generally refers to a late-night departure where the plane (and its passengers) fly overnight over a several-hour period. Someone flying out from the West Coast to Floridaon a 10 PM departure is on the red-eye; a passenger departing New York for Florida at the same time is on a plain-old late-night flight.

Yep, you're correct about non-stop vs direct...but you see, I would like it if they did fly direct (or non-stop). But for the life of me, I can't figure out if it's a direct flight or not....they have the same seats, but it's two different flight numbers. I thought that if it was 'direct' it kept one flight number, and if it was a 'connecting' flight, there would be two different flight numbers. Where am I going wrong? Since there is an hour in between landing and then departure, I am just not sure what the story is.

I fly out of Logan and I would suggest JetBlue from BOS-MCO if you can get a good price. Do not, under any circumstances, select a JetBlue flight which stops at JFK, due to certain flight delays.

Taking SWA from Providence is too much hassle and extra travel time.

I completely agree. Logan has become one of my favorite airports.

And therein lies the rub....I booked a non-stop and they changed my flight by two hours and with a stop. :confused3

If this happened to me, I would be on the phone with JetBlue asap to change to a better flight. The change should be at no cost to you, due to the significant flight change.
