So I am involved in my college's radio station. We received this email the other day and I am still FLIPPING MAD about it!
After, feel free to rant on previous mass punishments you have endured/what you think of mine.
"Last weekend, two DJs on a late night show propped open the front door to the Communications building as well as the door to the station during their show. They had a quite a few guests who were drunk and drinking in the station, which is against the rules for anyone in the station, even if they are 21, but the biggest issue to us and the administration was the security violation posed by the open doors, which proved valid because within the same time frame some items on the third floor were vandalized and stolen.
The DJs involved have been asked to leave the station. One will likely be
given the opportunity to come back next academic year, while the other has been permanently banned. Due to the severity of the consequences, further
disciplinary action has been removed from us and is being dealt with by the
administration.
However, the matter does not end there for us.
Tomorrow, Friday, December 15, at least one video camera will be installed in the WTBU studios. This is something I have fought in the past, but I cannot fight it after this incident. I know a lot of things go on in the studio that are
against the stations rules, but in the past we have left things mostly alone. However, the matter has gone above anything I can fight or choose to ignore. So, for your own sakes as well as the station as a wholes, dont drink alcohol in the station. Preferably dont drink anything at all within the studio itself, because we simply dont have the money to replace any major electronics at this time. I do not know exactly where the cameras are going on, so dont bother asking me.
Moreover, our broadcast hours have been severely cut back, for next semester at least. Until I review all the applications for next semester, I cannot say exactly what this will mean, but I will let everyone know as soon as I can.
For now, these are our new hours of operation:
Sunday 9 am - midnight
Monday - Thursday 7am - midnight
Friday 7am -1am
Saturday 9am - 1am
I may alter these so we are at least running for an even number of hours every day, but as I said it is too early to know exactly. I just found out this morning. Obviously, the immediate consequence is that far fewer applications will be approved for next semester, so I encourage everyone, particularly interns, to double up where you can to increase everyones chances. If you have not done your application yet, please fill out your availability completely, because the two-hour blocks on the applications may not exactly apply any longer."
