Masks

What does everyone do with their masks when they are eating? Do you put them in a Ziploc? Thank you.

I have seen where some places (mainly at Springs I think) that provide you with a one-time use mask pouch.

While I haven't been to Disney - when I've headed places around home and the mask would need to come off - we've been taking cheap "fold-over sandwich" bags to put them when they are off. That way - each person has their own bag and we don't feel bad about not reusing the bag much. After I lost my favorite one - a bit more of a system needed to be established!

I would bring a bag. You might ask for, or be given, a bread plate where you could place a mask while you eat.

I wonder what the experts would say. I would be concerned that the outside might have been exposed to droplets and putting it in a bag could lead to contamination. Like I said I am no expert though.

Ziplocs are what I have read that experts recommend. You should only handle the mask by the straps, fold it so that the insides touch, and then put it in the ziploc. The outsides of the bag will touch the ziploc, but the outsides were already contaminated. You should use hand sanitizer or wash your hands before and after touching the mask. The masks should be cleaned with detergent daily.

Thanks for this. Makes sense.

Our local schools are recommending the kids hook them on a lanyard while eating.

I would be concerned that they would touch the contaminated outside of the mask while eating and possibly touch their face. However, I really suspect that contact contraction of the virus is fairly low. I think it's mostly contracted through the lungs from breathing the water particles in the air. I still try to do whatever I know of to try to limit my chances of getting it though.

HA - I would be the kid that spills my lunch all over my mask hanging in my lap on a regular basis! I do applaud your school for providing a suggestion on this, though! My mom's solution would have to have been to pack me a fresh mask in my lunch bag to use.

This is interesting, I never thought about it.
.I think we are leaning towards disposable mask at this moment. We all have Disney mask and Hanes cotton ones.. with not having a way to wash them and how hot they are long term.

We will probably switch to a fresh mask after eating, so just toss the previous one.

It is very important to change your masks throughout the day. If you are reusing and wearing the same cloth or disposable mask throughout the day(s), think about the microscopic food particles you are breathing into your mask right after eating breakfast, lunch, snacks, etc. The mask traps those food particles then gets moist and breeds bacteria all day in the hot, humid weather. You are then breathing in all those nasty germs (and also transferring the germs into your pocket or purse if you are putting the mask there).

I shove mine in my pocket. If I was worried about the mask that much then I would ensure I spent my life in a sterile environment. LOL!!
Same for Us. In fact I washed a disposable in the pocket of my shorts and it came out fine.
