Masks on planes

I heard (and I could be wrong) the mask mandate was extended on flights (is it just domestic or international?) until September 13, 2021.
Anyone know or have a theory on when the policy could end? Thnx!

Since most places are too scared to ask for your vaccination cards to prove you've had your vaccines and the honor system is a joke since most all anti-vaxers would just lie about it anyway to get on the plane they are less likely to end this soon. I would just plan on wearing a mask.

That is correct the dictate was extended. I'm fairly certain that all ex-US international flights are still subject to the federal dictate. It will only be ended when it is politically expedient to do so. No one knows when that will be. I'm scheduled to fly to MCO in October, it would be nice if it wasn't required but I'm not holding my breath.

But it really doesn't matter if those who aren't vaccinated lie about it, it doesn't affect those who are vaccinated. This means everyone should be able to take responsibility for themselves now and leave it at that. So, the honor system is indeed what should be used. In Florida, any business that asks for proof from their customers can be fined $5,000 per incident, which is why the theme parks that have changed are on the honor system.

But it is looking more and more likely that even Disney will drop mask requirements for the vaccinated guests soon, so if I just gave to deal with masks on the plane and at the airport, I will.

The funny thing is that the two people who have travelled the most are 100% non-masked the second the door is closed: the pilots. For the record, they are not required to be masked when at their duty stations (e.g. up front and seated).

Even if mask mandates are dropped doesn't mean you can't still wear one if you choose to. Various stores we have been to recently still have almost everyone wearing a mask even if they aren't required to. Even in states where politicians have said they are ending the mask mandate doesn't prevent stores/businesses from continuing to have one. Went to a local casino recently and their policy is you don't have to wear a mask if vaccinated (per CDC guidelines), but almost everyone we saw still chose to wear one. Machines remain spread apart for social distancing and/or plastic shields were also still in use. Regardless of the public rhetoric, the majority of people will continue to do what makes them feel safe.

No state I am aware of has said you CAN'T wear a mask if you choose to.

And they are not sharing an enclosed space with a hundred passengers, unlike everyone else onboard.

Masks will still be necessary until those under 12 can also be vaccinated, and rightfully so. Vaccine passports would've been a terrific idea, but like everything in the U.S. it became politicized. I don't get it. Vaccination proof is needed for kids to enroll in school, so why is it an issue for adults?

I'll go one step further. I'll provide my complete medical info to any cast member if it means I can skip the queue and go right to the front of the line :)

I’m so tired of hearing that everyone who wants to be vaccinated has had the opportunity - especially here. Kids under 12 haven’t yet. Please keep your masks on on planes to protect them.
Because they don't spread or catch illnesses?
The lethality and seriousness of infection is inverse to age. In the state of Wisconsin not a single child aged birth to 9 has died with COVID. In the state of Florida it has been 7 under the age of 15. Would you like to guess how many children in those age ranges have been killed by other means in the last 15 months?

I will keep my mask on for as long as it's dictated, but it will come off and stay off as soon as it's not required.

It can be a safety issue. Muffled speech, fogged glasses, and an impediment to donning an oxygen mask.

Not sure when they will lift the mask requirement on planes, but we just took a cross country flight last weekend, and I can say that the interest in enforcing the mask requirement seems to have all but disappeared on flights. The flight attendants seemed anxious to hand out water and snacks at every opportunity, and people spent most of the flights I was on “actively” eating or drinking. Even when masks were on, many of the passengers didn’t bother to cover their noses. At this point the mask requirement is really a joke, and should be lifted everywhere. Anybody who still feels uncomfortable should be satisfied with their own masks and/or stay home (including kids whose parents are uncomfortable with them being out in public unvaccinated).

Even if they drop it prior to my October trip, I’ll be masking on the plane. I’m fully vaxxed, but I really like the fact that I haven’t had a cold for the last 18 months or so. It’s a short flight to Orlando for me anyway.
i will do the same for awhile. Look at this flu season, it was practically non existent.. that tells me that masks really do work! 😁

I live in Virginia and our governor has said that one of the issues with upcoming changes is that people are not allowed to wear masks in normal times: (here he’s speaking about the ending state of emergency on June 30)
“If we’re not in the state of emergency, it is unlawful to wear a mask in public so there are certain things we’re working through,” Northam said. “It’s a month away so I don’t think that’s too extreme.”

I’ll be the first to say this is a very weird state (I’m not originally from here)
