Masks now required by CDC on ships?

I can't think of a reason a state would file suit since the airports already operate at the control of the U.S Federal Government

We will see but this isn't controlling air travel safety but instead enforcing federal mandates on masking policy. It could be argued if the requirement was for safety distancing guidelines and testing requirements would be implemented that likely would be more successful than just simply a mask (which can be removed for eating) when airlines are having you should to shoulder on planes.

I am pro-mask during the current time but I think there is a question likely being asked out of this within state governments. I could be wrong though its just a guess.

I would add that is if this even applies to to operations of a airplane or other vehicle that is not going to depart the US.

I really, really miss cruising. If we were to go anytime soon, I of course would wear a mask, wash my hands, avoid crowded rooms, distance, and get a vaccination before cruising. I do this because it is the safe and right thing to do. Too many have died from this contagious disease.

I don't need the CDC to tell me to be smart and care about the health of others. Unfortunately, some do. We will be back to cruising in a year or two when the danger is gone.

Well I wish that were true too. But with religious reasons and medical reasons our utopia is going to be a few vials short.

Wasn’t there an outbreak of measles in Disneyland because a person from a foreign country that has measles more prevalent was at the park a few years ago?
Sure would make it easier for the medical patients who can’t get it, if everyone else would get it.

I must have been thinking about this one from NZ but still seems it wasn’t what I was remembering.

It’s possible that the cruise lines require vaccination at some point but until most people get vaccinated (which will take several months), resuming sailing with extreme measures is probably their only chance to resume sailings. And we all know some people will at least give it a try.

But it‘s okay if you prefer to wait. I was ready to give it a try but my family isn’t convinced they will actually enjoy it and we are also still waiting to get vaccinated and hoping for the travel conditions to be less extreme when we return as we do not want to use two extra weeks of vacation to quarantine when we come back.

Time will tell.

I really struggle to see why wearing a mask is such a deal breaker for people. Everyone knows how quick illness can spread in a confined space like a cruise ship. We've been doing it for a year now, people in Asia have been doing it for such a long time.

Just because you are on vacation and don't want to wear a mask, remember there are cast members who would like to protect their health and that of their families. There are immigration officials, there are even vulnerable people (which one day could be you or your family). Perhaps the cruise life isn't for you for a few years yet!

Masks mostly help protect other people from you. Unless he's going around with a medical grade respirator and wearing it perfectly. The Pfizer and Moderna vaccines (and maybe more?) have shown efficacy in preventing pretty much all cases of severe covid. I read one article (I think about Israel) where they said even when people got infected it was on the level of some sniffles or a headache.

There will also come a day when we reach herd immunity. The numbers will be so low it will be a very low chance of encountering it, and of course if he gets vaccinated he'll be very well protected.

I figured someone would say this. And yes, it is true. However, severely immunocompromised people have been advised to wear masks (for even the minimal protection they provide to the wearer) since long before covid during particularly dangerous times for them, when they are at heightened risk from contagious diseases. In my husband's case (he's a whole organ transplant recipient, pre-covid) - he was advised to wear a mask the first few months post-transplant, for visits at the hospital (he went nowhere else). Anyone visiting him with any illness symptoms for 6-12 mo post-transplant was to wear a mask as well. No one was ever going to be able to get the general public to wear masks to protect the few in "normal" times, and clearly this remains the case in "unprecedented" times as well. So basically - any tiny thing to help yourself is all a transplant recipient, cancer patient, etc. can do. This is what Snowwhyt is referring to.

I think this will be the most difficult virus to acquire heard immunity for so many reasons. And yes he would need the special mask that you mentioned. I’m sure the transplant people will be offered a special mask designed for their safety because of their immense risk. I kind of consider it a step up from what the CDC currently requires.

My father also got a whole organ transplant. My father‘s transplant was over 15 years ago so all of the masks that he had from his initial transplant are long gone. I’m hoping his hospital will eventually offer a recommended mask for transplant recipients. And I hope that meets the CDC parameters.
