Mask Question as of Disney Policy October 2021

I am planning a trip to WDW in early January for WDW Marathon. I have a son with medical conditions that prevent him from wearing a mask, physically not able. As the policy stands, masks are not required outdoors or in outdoor lines.

Does anyone know of a list of WDW attractions where the line and ride is all outside? Obviously the Haunted mansion is out, but I think Barnstormer and Mad Tea Party are OK. Kilamanjaro Safari should be OK too.

Lots of knowledgeable people on here so I was hoping for some guidance. We have been to WDW several times but looking to the experts for thoughts on the rides that maybe go more frequently.

I don't know if there's a list, but as a general rule, "inside" refers to any part of the attraction *or the queue.*

Dumbo for example, has part of its queue indoors so masks on. Big Thunder Mountain, same story.

Magic Carpets, Jungle Cruise (the queue is open air with just a roof, same set up as Kilamanjaro safaris, so that should work), I wonder if you can bypass the tent area for Dumbo (?), TriceraTop Spin at Animal Kingdom (it's Dumbo but dinosaurs)

Guests must go indoors to access entrance to the Dumbo line so masks are required there.

He may not be able to do them but EE and Kali, BTMRR , Magic carpets , astro orbiters (not sure with the elevator if masks needed), autopia are all I can think of.
It seems every ride in HS and EPCOT is inside, at least partially.

BTMRR would be out I think since the last part of the queue and the loading area are indoors.

Oh and, sadly, EE is going to be down for refurb during marathon weekend. I know since we are going and my daughters are bummed out about it.

ETA also: January is still a little way off, so it's possible the policy may change again before your trip.

I’m pretty sure mad tea party is considered indoors as it’s covered.

If you can get a DAS pass you could by pass a lot of lines! Just an option, don’t know if you want to get one or qualify for one, just a thought! I get a DAS for myself and I know that you wait outside the line until it’s your time and then you go thru the fast pass line and bypass a lot of the line, you won’t bypass all the line in every attraction, but it would help!

Mad Tea Party is not Indoors. It’s no mask. The list from Yoshi looks correct from my experience in the last 10 days.

Most rides have some indoor component.

No. Masks are to be worn on the ride if any component is inside. Ie, BTMRR starts in the cave with the bats and again in the area with the track “breaking”, therefore, masks worn the entire time. EE, there is a section in the mountain, so masks stay on. I rode with my brother on his very first time on EE and we didn’t get our pic because the man in front of us took off his and his son’s mask as soon as we pulled out of the station. We were the front car, and photo pass said they couldn’t really edit them out. Even People Mover requires masks to be worn at all times.

If the ride is 100% outdoors, you don't. For instance, you don't have to wear it on Dumbo or in the outside portion of the line. Just the inside portion.

This thread highlights why guests have trouble following Disney’s mask rule since it is unclear what is consider inside and what isn’t. I feel bad for CMs having to enforce this. Hopefully, most people listen to them and act respectfully

I think it's pretty clear. If any part of the queue is inside, you wear a mask during the indoor parts of the line. If the ride itself has indoor components (like People Mover, for example) you wear a mask the entire time.

Most of the guests I've seen giving cast members a hard time about masks are not confused about indoor/outdoor, but are the ones who don't want to wear them at all and make rude comments about it, the ones who pull their masks down on indoor rides, the ones who don't even bring their masks into the parks at all. Most guests who are simply confused are nice about it.

All of that being said, no one actually knows what the mask rules will look like in January. I'm guessing it will depend on what happens with Covid over the holidays.

i wasn’t saying people aren’t purposely not following the rules but I think this thread shows that some people consider some things outside when others consider it inside and there is confusion about whether you have to mask on dumbo or not cause part of que is inside but ride is outside. So, while it may seem clear to you, I think there is some genuine confusion, as well.

This was weird because on both TT and Splash Mountain, due to me moving around, the speed and mostly me grabbing the edge of my seat, my mask slipped under my nose, and I was too busy holding on for dear life to pull it up before the camera took my picture, which wasn't edited or blocked from the rest of the people on the ride with me, you very clearly could see my mask under my nose. I thought it was weird the pic made it through, maybe it wasn't considered "down" enough?
