I stand corrected. Thanks for the update.

It's been two years since I took the serving it safe class.

I speak from painful experience. When young and newly married, I left a bowl of mashed potatoes in the microwave oven overnight. I ate them the next day after work. VERY shortly after I was sick as a dog and missed a graduate class that night ad work the next day. TOSS THEM.

the mashed potatoes were sitting on the counter when I got up this morning, I think they were left out for like 10 hours. Smelled and looked ok, (they were covered with foil)I put them back in the fridge...will they be ok? Mind you my DH was raised in farm country and thinks butter should be left on the conter and not refrigerated, so we know what he will say. Thanks!
EWW, I would toss them.
OP where are you? I hope you are not throwing up :confused3

Hi,
I agree that food like potatoes should be thrown away, but it is safe to leave butter on the counter for 3-5 days if it is covered. I just went to the Land O' Lakes butter site and got that info.

We always leave our table butter at room temp. I have been doing this for many years! ;)

Thanks for all your help. We did toss them and luckily had some reserve to make a new batch. I was right, DH said they'd be ok but I insisted they be tossed. We are at a vacation home in NC and didnt want to be throwing up on the drive back to Fl, over something so preventable. Thanks again for your replies!
