I used acid and a LOT of coke in college. but it was never the result of smoking pot. it all started after having a few beers in me. I've never smoked a cigarette in my life, and never will. everyone is a different person. I think if there's a 'gateway' drug, it's alcohol. especially with teens. most of my friends in high school that had their first 'sexual encounter' had a few drinks in them, not heroin.

I would have to agree with this. I have never personally tried anything more than alcohol or pot (and have never smoked a cigarette), but anyone I knew that tried something else, it was after they had been drinking.

What really bothers me about pot is that I know at least two people who are wasting their life on it. One of them was a really close friend of mine. She started smoking pot every now and then, like at parties. Then about 3 years ago she started smoking everyday. She has lost relationships over it. I had lost contact with her after I went away for college and when I came back she was completely different. Yeah she had a job, but she just spent her money on pot. The last time I caught up with her was when my son was about 5 mos old. I asked her to come with me to a dr's appt. She said ok, but she had to go to a friend's house first because he owed her some. We got there and they lit up right in front of me and the baby. I got out of there, and really haven't talked to her since then. The worst part is that she now has to smoke to get to "normal" and that it really doesn't make her high anymore. If that isn't addictive I don't know what is.

I am not a huge fan of alcohol either, but at least it can be regulated. How many people do you know that can brew large quantities of beer in their basement?

You're the type of person I HATED in college. I had a friendly competition with a guy in my honors classes, and anytime we had recieved the same grade he would say "yeah, but I was stoned"

The pot smokers I know are successful businessmen. Really. The people I know that are wasting their life away doing nothing productive are not just smoking some pot at night - they use other drugs.

I haven't and won't smoke it but I think without a doubt it should be legal.

I just had to comment. I used it frequently in high school and then ...I grew up. My BIL is one of those people who never quit, he started young and is now 39 and smokes daily. He has no job and my sister has had to work to support their 3 kids alone for the past 10 years. He spends all the money he makes doing side work (mowing lawns) on dime bags. MY ex was the same way and thats why he's my ex.

Fot those who say that it is not addictive, well the scientific evidence says food isn't addictive either but many obese people can tell you otherwise. Anything that causes a high can become addictive because your body will crave that feeling.

Why isn't alcohol illegal, what the difference? Well, I know plenty of people who can drink a beer and not get drunk. I have never seen anyone smoke a joint and remain unaltered.

I doubt the lack of revenue keeps the Gov from legalizing it. They can tax anything they want.

Edited to add: smoking pot led me to try cigarettes for the first time, allowed me to drink (otherwise I couldn't stand the taste) and of course there were a few acid incidents. Of all, I would say the acid was the least harmful- but thats just me. Like I said, I grew out of it- everyone should. Why do we think we can't enjoy life with a sober mind? Many people I know who still smoke pot can't have a decent weekend without it, thats just sad.

sorry. I took my ACT's and SAT's after very 'long' nights. I did very well on both. but then again, I used to get high and watch "C.H.I.P.S." and "Three's Company" in college. I wrote a killer dissertation about 'A Streetcar Named Desire' for a theater class which I never attended, except to ask out a hottie named Jennifer. Or so I was told.....

man, I want to go back to college............
