Does anyone know what will happen to IOA Marvel Island now that Disney owns Marvel?

I love Marvel at IOA (the rides are fantastic - especially SpiderMan!), but would be neat to see Marvel attractions at WDW.

Has anyone heard anything?

Those rides are staying, and Disney can't use any of the characters at IOA under certain terms. So you can still ride the Hulk, but you won't see him in Disney.

I guess that's good for Universal then. So .... new characters solely then and probably any characters that aren't already being marketed at Universal. This works for me

Disneycant use any characters east of the missisippi so they can use marvel characters in Disneyland or even in france or asia

US's contract has no ending date (cant figure how to type the Latin) so as long as they want to keep them they can.

That's not really how it works. The only way they can "try" is by offering Universal a pile of cash. But Universal would have no motivation to accept all that cash unless it's enough money to cover replacing everything on Marvel Super Hero Island, and then some. And that's way too big a price for Disney to pay.

What's more likely in the coming years is that you'll start to see Disney "test" other Marvel characters and see if they can boost the popularity of ones that aren't in use at Universal.

That said, theme park rights aren't the most important part of the Marvel purchase. It's the films and merchandise.

As long as they make them (US and Disney) money who cares.

Also they are not "Disney" characters , they are Marvel characters. I think most people who visit US don't even know that Marvel is owned by Disney.

People sometimes think that competitors are always at each other's throats and can never work together. Well Disney is not going to get the the characters back just to make a statement.

Money is money whether you make it yourself or get it from someone else.

There is always the misconception that disney and universal are at each other's throats... And sea world for that matter.

The financial reality is that the 3 supplement each others business...not steal it. The numbers have always shown that.

Everytime a new park opens in Orlando...it's a day of celebration - not mourning at the competitors.

Plus Universal continuing to liscence the marvel characters is right in line with the way Disney wants to make money in the themepark buisness. Get a flat rate for liscencee/leasor to do all the work. Make your money with little to no effort.

In fact, I would guess that the complete outsourcing of hotel and food operations to be not too far away...10 years maybe
