Marvel Day at Sea - does it feel like enough Marvel

to make it "worth it."

I know "worth" is subjective. But here is my situation.

We have a NCL Breakaway 7-night booked for May. We managed to get in on the last week of guests 3 & 4 sail free and our fare is outstanding. I'm not excited at all about the itinerary, but we loved our cruise on NCL Getaway in 2016. There is so much to do on the ship and the dining was a lot of fun for us, too. But we have zero wiggle room before or after the trip to do anything else besides drive there and back (from NY) because we have kids in spring and summer semesters at college.

I started poking around January options and DCL has two cruises with Marvel Day at Sea. We are over the top Marvel fans. We just drove from NY to CA for the purpose of going to DLR and we loved the Marvel meet and greets and the GOTG ride.

A 5-night cruise on Magic in inside staterooms will cost a little more than NCL 7-night balcony.

NCL has more for my teens, and from a cost standpoint it is a better deal.
DCL has Marvel and fireworks at sea.

Are the queues to meet Marvel characters manageable? Can you actually meet all of them, or are you really limited? Do they show Marvel movies in the theaters?

Is January too cold? Hmmmmm - that's just dawning on me.

I'd love some thoughts from others who have gone for the MDAS cruises.

I wish Marvel had 7-night cruises like SW does.

we did the 5 night out of Miami this past March. MDAS was awesome! Lines for Thor, Loki, and Cap were long but they had multiple times. The ticketed M&G's were great - one with Groot and one with Spiderman, Black Panther, and Iron Man. Shows were fun. Marvel movies in the theaters, including Black Panther in WDT (it was still in theatrical release). Dr. Strange show was awesome and had kid participation. The deck show at night was unbelievable. We were on the same sailing that Scott who does the Disney Cruise Line Blog was on, and he has a full trip report and review on his site. My girls are 11 and 15 and reallly enjoyed it.

I would have a family meeting and get everyone’s buy-in. Would they rather do a longer cruise in a verandah room on a ship with more activities in warmer weather or a shorter cruise on a smaller, older ship in cooler weather all in order to experience one Marvel day.

The fireworks at sea are very brief. They are neat but not spectacular enough for which to book a cruise, in my opinion.

Good luck with your decision!

We took a MDAS cruise on the Magic out of NY last November - it was a 7n itinerary to Port Canaveral and Castaway Cay, and was a Merrytime cruise in addition to being a MDAS cruise. The MDAS day was the highlight of the cruise, and while we got autographs from everyone that day, the lines did get kind of long. There was a Dr. Strange stage show that was awesome, and they did play Marvel movies both that day and throughout the cruise. However, other than MDAS day, the rest of the cruise was pretty much full-on Holidays, with Santa visits, etc. With a full day at WDW added in - it just felt like trying to fit too much into too short of a cruise!

I would love to do MDAS again, but would probably try to avoid it during another themed cruise time (Halloween, Christmas, etc). I did love the 7n PC/Castaway Cay itinerary, though - lots of relaxing sea days (jam-filled with activities), as well as 2 fun-filled days on shore with Disney!
