Marriott rewards

I have a Marriott rewards card because I travel a lot on business and often stay at Marriotts. I looked on their reward site and they say that you can trade your reward points for "Park Hopper Passes". Am I right in assuming that Park Hopper passes are no longer sold at Disney?

Has any had any experience trading Marriott points for Disney passes?

They sell the MYW tickets now.

We have never bought WDW tickets with our Marriott points, because for the amount of points you have to use...it doesn't make sense to do so. The same amount of points can get you a long stay at a nice resort somewhere. We only use points for vacation stays or airline frequent flyer miles. All the other benefits don't make sense when you think of how many points/versus the actual cost.

We have done this twice. My DH travels alot too. We called the 800 # and ordered.

They say it takes 4 - 6 weeks but we got the ticket in less then 1 week. It came by FedEx. It was funny to get a package with my DD's name on it by FedEx.

We could us the points to stay somewhere else but DH wants to go somewhere he doesn't have to worry about anything. WDW is the place to be for that!!

We have also done this with HiltonHonors points.

Have fun.

This is generally true from a strictly dollars and cents point of view but there are practical exceptions.

I know people who travel constantly for business and accumulate hundreds of thousands of Marriott points. They can't possibly use them all for vacations so they use them for other rewards (tickets, merchandise, etc.). Also, most of these people have their hotel bills paid by their company but get to keep the points themselves, so they are basically free to them. Whatever they use them for is a bonus even if it isn't strictly the best use of the points.

This is our situation. Plus it reminds DH of all the time he spends away from us so we don't stay there.

This is helping....it sounds like using points to redeem for Disney passes isn't the best idea!

While no it isn't the best use of the points we have also done it twice. This was back last year and we got 2 7 day hoppers. We wanted to stay onsite and this was just another way to cut back the costs of our trip. The passes that we got with the points looked just like our other park hoppers that we bought at the parks. And we had no trouble wtih them.

It isn't the best use of points valuewise if you compare to a hotel stay.

A 4-day WDW hopper is 55,000 points.
Those same 55,000 points would get you a 7-nite stay at a category 2 hotel.

A 4-day hopper runs about $220.
A cat. 2 hotel runs about $75/nite so 7 nites would be $525.

It's a much better value to use points for hotel stays. Unless, like I mentioned earlier, you simply have a ton of points accumulated and don't need them all for travel.
