Hello!! My Mom and I are flying in one night prior to sailing on the 01/11/07 Disney Wonder and we just booked the Marriott Residence Inn near the Port. The only room they had left was a 2 BR Suite so we booked it. Would anyone be willing to share their experiences at this hotel? I have read positive reviews from Trip Advisor, but rely even more on my friends from the DisBoards!!:flower3:

Also, we will be arrriving to the resort 8pm or so, any suggestions on dining locations that stay open later? I did a Google search and there appears to be many restaurants (Olive Garden, Applebees, etc. on Merritt Island)--how far is that from the Residence Inn??

Thanks so very much and Happy New Year!!:santa:

We stayed at the Residence Inn in September and found it to be an enjoyable experience. The staff was very helpful in getting us reservations for dinner at Grills, the room was great, breakfast was much better than most other hotels that include breakfast, and it is not far from the port. I think you will find it a pleasant stay. We will stay there prior to all of our future cruises.

Good morning,
There is a Zackery's Greek Restaurant that is thisclose to the Residence Inn, Kelsey's Pizza, Subway and Thai sushi restaurant. If you are going into Merritt Island, you are about 5 to 6 miles from the Residence Inn - you head South from the RI, go about 2 miles to you come to Hwy 520 - head West and it will take you right to Restaurant row - you start looking as you come to the Merritt Square Mall - you will find more choices then you can complete in one day.
Try these zip codes - 32920 (Cape Canaveral), 32931(Cocoa Beach), 32953(No.Merritt Islandand, 32952(So Merritt Island) - You won't have any problems finding any place to eat.

We stayed in a 2BR suite back in Oct and it was fantastic!! It was clean and very spacious. We would definitely stay there again. Breakfast was good and it is close to everything. I went out to visit Shirley (Hi Shirley!!!), went to Publix, Dunkin Donuts, the liquor store and got gas all on the same strip. We ate at Grills, which is the only place I'm really familiar with. It's close (at the port) but you do need to drive. Have fun!

We'd heard wonderful things about Grills, but there was a 90 minute wait for a table the night we could have eaten there. I think it had to do with the fact that almost half of our cruise were repeat cruisers, and of that amount many were DISers.

We LOVED the Residence Inn, and ended up having Pizza and salad delivered from the place down the street. Great food (all sorts of Italian, not just pizza). You'll find that there are MANY places close by.

Just back and we loved the residence inn, i ate at sonny's and we did not care for it. It was nice to drive around and see the stores in the area.
Have Fun

Hey Happy Lawyer, you should have stopped by the shop and said hello and also I agree with you about Sonny's. Norm and I have tried it on more than one occasion just to make sure it wasn't me, but it wasn't so that is why I don't mention the restaurant and also it is kinda "down the road" and traffic.
Did you go to the 4Points and have a chance to see the 5600 gallon fish "tank" or did you go to Ron Jon's or maybe the Cocoa Beach Pier?
Glad you had a nice time and thanks for stopping by our "City".
Hey Shell
How are you girlfriend - thanks for stopping by to see me - its always neat to have someone stop by.
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY.
Always

We were there the same time as VanVmom  and loved our two bedroom suite. Matter of fact I already have one booked for our next cruise. The pool is great (saltwater), the bartender was excellent :drinking1 , guest services was super friendly, very clean everywhere and breakfast was really good. I highly recommend this hotel. :thumbsup2

Stayed there in Early December. Very clean and spacious and close to the Port. Will stay there again for any future cruises.

:cool1: Thanks so much for answering my questions!! We are so looking forward to our stay at the Residence Inn after all the positive feedback! Now I need to call Shirley about a "Surprise" basket for my Mom in our stateroom!!
This is her first cruise and I want it to be special!!

Happy New Year Everyone!!!!!:grouphug:

Hey folks --

I have been looking for a good restaurant around Residence Inn or Country Suites (where we are staying). Seems like The Grill and Zachery's are the most popular recommendations. My birthday is the night before the cruise so we wanted to go out to a nice family dinner that night.

If you live out of town, The Grill has a 10% discount coupon on the their website (visitgrills dot com).

Shirley, do you like The Grill, too?

Thanks!

We stayed at the Residence Inn in November and ate at a great restaruant called Dakotas. It's on the same road as the hotel. If you make a right out of the parking lot it's about 5 minutes down the road It's a bar & grill that serves BBQ and tex mex food. I highly recommend it!

Does Grills accept reservations and if so, how far in advance can I make them?

WOW!!!!! First time in a long time that I have been "lost" - I can not heard of a Bar & Grill called Dakotas here in Cape Canaveral or Cocoa Beach - can you give me an insight as to what it is close to? I looked in the local phone book and no listing but it can be part of a hotel/motel that I may not be familiar with. Grills doesn't accept reservations at least that is my information in the past week or so BUT if you call the day you are coming in and a couple of hours before you plan to be there and say I will be there about 6PM, they will write your name in at least that is what I have done. Yes I do enjoy Grills, but Norm and I usually go through the week since the weekends are just a little bit much for us with all the folks, waiting and the music combined. The view is beautiful and well worth going.
Hope this will help answer some questions.
Always
Shirley

So Shirley where would you suggest we should go for dinner on a Friday night. My girls are older 9 and 11, so they can handle any kind of restaurants, we will have a car, and really do love just about everything.

Sorry, It was wrong on the name, it's "Durango". I don't know what I was thinking when I told you Dakotas. It was next to the Best Western if I'm remembering correctly.

We went to Grills prior to our cruise in September. We went on a Friday evening and it was a little crowded. We only had to wait maybe 20 minutes for a table for 7.

After having airplane snacks and McDonalds earlier that day, the wait was worth it. The food was wonderful! The portions were large and the service was great!

What type of food do they serve?
We are also thinking of this restaurant if we arrive in the area early enough (spending Friday at Universal).

Bump in support of the Residence Inn...it was clean and close to the port. Good breakfest too!
