Marrakesh Questions

I looked at the menu for Marrakesh, but can anyone explain exactly what type of food they serve (is it spicy, etc)? What type of atmosphere is the restaurant, any entertainment, fun, etc?

Also, is $200/day enough for food and souvenirs for a family of 5? And one more question...I read somewhere that alot of the Disney restaurants give 10% AAA discounts. Is this true?

Ive only had the lamb at marrakesh....I tried it and have no desire to eat anything else there. Its the best lamb Ive ever had....cooked in a brown sauce, not spicy at all...served with a side or rice or couscous

the place has been basically empty whenever Ive been there (lunchtime)....very lowkey atmosphere, nice break from the park. They have live music and belly dancers periodically. in June, my 4 YO son went up and was dancing with her, it was a blast.

I've had the roast lamb, beef kabobs and chicken kabobs. All were delicious. The food is not very spicy but flavorful. I substituted the couscous with vegetables instead of rice with each order which was no problem. My daughter even celebrated her birthday there and the waiters brought her a complementary dish of Bastilla and sang "Happy Birthday" to her.

Thank you. I'm trying to decide which Epcot restaurant to make PS for. I'm kind of torn between Marrakesh and L'Originale Alfredo di Roma. I've never been to Disney, so I've never eaten at either restaurant.

The food in Italy is very good for what it is, but Marrakesh is a one of a kind experience you can't enjoy many other places. The setting feels very exotic, there is belly dancing (they involve the kids - too cute!) and music. The food is what I would call seasoned and flavorful, but not spicy as in hot. It can be as familiar (kabobs) or as unusual as you are willing to try, and it is all very good. I am a big fan of places that have something different to offer, and while I like Alfredos we don't go there much because I can get very good Italian food at home for a lot less money. The tables can be very close together (same is true at Chefs de France) and I don't enjoy spending a meal that close to people we don't know. More than once we've had to move our table in order to get up and leave, and it was still a squeeze.

The food is not spicy as in hot or peppery but they use a little different choice of spices than we might use in our everyday cooking. I have had the chicken and beef brochettes which have been delicious. The veggies, rice and cous cous have been really good. My mother and sister (both picky eaters) went with us once for lunch. Mom only ordered a chicken bastilla (minced chicken and almonds in a pastry with powdered sugar on top) and just picked at it. Sister had the chicken brochettes (white meat chicken kabobs) and she didn't like them much. Everyone loved the beef brewat rolls though!

The food is SO GOOD and not spicy - I don't do spicy at all. You can always ask your waiter to be sure when you order.

It is a unique flavor, one that I can't find in my neck of the woods. I can eat italian anyday =0 The restaurant is beautiful and never crowded, it's sorta tucked away from the hub-bub of the park. Def a retreat. The bellydancer was beautiful and entertaining, and got people involved. The band was great, too.

It's a unique dining exp that most don't get a chance to enjoy on a regular basis. I recommend it!

The food at Marrakesh is tasty without being overly spicy. I really like Middle Eastern food but there are no ME restaurants near my home, so eating at Marrakesh is a real treat. The bastilla is wonderful. I admit I've never eaten at Alfredo's in WDW, but I've eaten at the one in Rome. It was ok but we have good Italian restaurants at home and I can eat Italian anytime I want. I say try Marrakesh.

We loved Marrakesh. Dh had the lamb and thought he had died and gone to heaven!! I had beef kabobs and they were really tasty. Dd had the grilled chicken breast. She is really picky and ate just a little of it. We are looking forward to eating here again.

We have eaten twice at Alfredo's. The first time dd and I loved it. The last time in August, the food was mediocre and the service was atrocious!!! Way too much money for what we got. I was really disappointed since we had had such a good time in Dec.

When we went with my daughter, we told her she could have kabobs on the menu (she was four - she likes "chicken on a stick"). They don't have chicken kabobs on the menu, but the waiter was happy to bring our request to the kitchen - and her chicken breast came out in chunks on a kabob stick.

Marrakesh is a really good place to have lunch if you want to save substantially. There usually are two specials that include an appetizer or dessert for $15 or so. Last year I got a meal that included my two favorite appetizers -- beef brewat rolls and chicken bastilla -- beef kabob and couscous. DH's meal had dessert -- can't remember what he had exactly. I also LOVE the mint iced tea.

I'm not sure if anyone talked about the atmosphere. It is one of the most beautiful restaurants at Disney. Looks like a palace with walls covered by mosaic tiles. There is music on a traditional instrument of some sort and a belly dancer.

I love the brewat rolls, and the bastilla was so good too! We went to just try something different, since we also look forward to eating food that we can't readily get in our neighborhood. It's worth a try to just sit in the restaurant, very cool. And just like everybody has said, it's not tabasco spicy, it's flavorful spicy. It's come to be one of my personal favorites, and I am very much looking forward to eating there when we go in 2005.

Is it fairly easy to get a seat here without a PS? I'd like to try it - can't decide whether I want lunch or dinner.
