Marrakesh...any takers?

As mentioned, the setting is positively stunning. The entertainment is also worthwhile.

If you are accustomed to N. African cuisine, you will find Marrakesh's offerings to be dumbed down, but that's not at all unusual in World Showcase. It's close enough for Rock-n-Roll, though. Not "spicy", and many consider it somewhat bland, but also somewhat unusual.

We enjoy it. It's something different and a bit exotic -- food wise. We think the belly dancer is great fun. And the restaurant is gorgeous. Unique is getting hard to find in Epcot.

We've been here at least 6 or 7 times in the past 2 years. The last time in Dec 07

Saying that: we travel at 'low' seasons & tend to eat at 'off' times, ie early lunch (upon 1st opening) or late lunches. If waitstaff are less burdened they tend to take more time with you, this is true for any restaurant, we find.

We love the atmosphere here. It can get loudish, due to all the tile, but the same can be said for CP & all the glass.

We have always had very pleasant waitstaff & good food. Yes, it is dumbed down (like most of WS), but pleasant.
We like:
the Jasmina salad, very refreshing, interesting dressing. ask for the dressing on the side if you are unsure
the brewat rolls--although sometimes I have found them on the dry side, for me

Lemon Chicken: I love this! Succulent, like 1/2 a chicken, too.
Sultan Sampler: both DS19 & DH get this & like it
Berber Feast: this one has both lamb & chicken featured. DH & DS like it, too.
Roast Lamb Meshoui: Wow! a HUGE portion! Lamb was tender, too

Check the outdoor menu, there is usually a sampler entree available. This is also one of DH's & DS' faves.

You can have the food spiced up, if you ask when ordering.

And, yes, the Moroccan coffee will put hair on your chest! :rotfl2:
We like it.

We also like the Moroccan tea served there.

My favorite dessert is Marrakesh Delight, a fruit salad with an orange blossom water dressing & mint ice cream, heavenly!

My family of 4 - DH and 2 DS's 19 and 17 at the time (June 2006) ate there - we all enjoyed Marrakesh. We found it different and overall the food was good and the guys all enjoyed the belly dancer. I am not a lamb eater - usually - but the lamb my DH had was very good. I had a chicken dish. The chicken was a teeny bit on the dry side, but overall I really was pleased with our choices - though I can't remember now what they were. I enjoyed the different foods that I had not had the chance to experience before.

In August that year, we also had a grand gathering - a family reunion of 16. The guys all decided that was where they'd like to do dinner with their grandfather - 5 guys ages 22 to 17 and my Dad, and BIL, all ate there. They all came out of the restaurant grinning. My Father, who is a very picky eater - he's a cook/chef and knows good food - enjoyed his meal also.

I say try it. You may be pleasantly surprised!

By the way, I should mention, my family eats in "off hours" - either early or late, but never during the 5:30-7:00pm rush.

Well I am now much more inclined to book the ADR. More and more people are seemingly pleased with Marrakesh. Thank you for the menu suggestions! :goodvibes

We tried it for the first on our trip last Sep - had been to just about every other ts in Epcot previously but not that one - mainly because I didn't like the sound of the menu options. BUT - when we walked out of there, all 5 of us, said we wanted to go back. (both of the younger ones tried stuff from DW's plate, mine and their brother's too and liked it!) It's definitely worth a try. You may be pleasantly surprised. As I read through other's posts - it does seem to generate some fairly strong love or hate type of reactions, just like Akershus in Norway tends to do. Just remember that they're there to reflect their culture, and their food is a part of that. If you know you'll be back to WDW again, it's okay to take a chance with something new, and view it as a waste - since you might just find something new that you like and want to do again - or you'll know that you might not go back. We did that with Rose & Crown on our honeymoon, and haven't been back in 14 yrs - we love fish and chips normally, but that night it just didn't sit well, literally - but we're giving it another go this time.

I am half Norwegian and white as white could be - very picky growing up, and apprehensive of trying new foods almost until I married my DW, who is half middle eastern. Without thinking twice I got her to try Akershus during our honeymoon and we've been back several times since, but was always hesitant when she would bring up wanting to try Marrakesh. (just selfish on my part) Over the years I've tried more of her family favorites and have learned to enjoy several of them. I found the food delish, and the entertainment quite fun too. My DD kept saying how beautiful the belly dancer was - I had to agree. It was a lot of fun, and we're going back!

The atmosphere is great! It is a hoot to watch men of all ages (from 8-80) stare at the belly dancer!!!! For Mediterranean food, well, it stunk!!! Everything was very dry!!! I am a big fan of this type of food in general, but not at this restaurant. All in all, we had fun...we just had to eat something else a little bit later.

One of my favorites is Chicken Bastilla - Not too spicy chicken with hints of cinnamon in a pastry dusted with powdered sugar. The crepe dessert that has honey and vanilla ice cream is also wonderful....Yes I have a sweet tooth. But they also have wonderful bread and I enjoy the different types of salads.

We love it!

We have eaten there twice and thought the food was very good. It is not amazing food, but it is good.

My kids love the huge beautiful room and the belly dancer (so does my DH).

I love the area surrounding the restaurant too, I think the Moroccan buildings are just beautiful. You feel like you are in Casablanca.

I say give it a try!

It is the ONE restaurant my family absolutely insists on at every visit. It's beautiful. My dh LOVES the belly dancer, and we're all big fans of cous cous, so how can we go wrong? Although not terribly authentic, the food is different enough to be a treat.

You'll never know if you don't try, so try it!

I wasn't over impressed either. The food was decent, good but not great and the tables are pretty crowded together and its very loud in there.

It's a must for us every trip either lunch or dinner. Love the chicken bastilla and the dessert one. Also the lamb, chicken and steak kabobs are really good. Oh and you have to get the jasmine tea.

Someone posted I think last week that the menu they had was a little different then one posted online. They said it was very good. They had a hummus app platter and a goat cheese app that I've never seen before. Sorry I can't find the thread anymore through but there might have been pictures on the food porn thread.
