Marine Corp Marathon - 35th anniversary

This year marks the 35th anniversary for the Marine Corp Marathon - October 31. I talked to some folks at the MC marathon booth at the Little Rock expo this past weekend and they said they were going to do a special medal and do some special things in honor of the 35th anniversary. The signup date is April 7. It is expected to sell out within a couple of days.

I'm thinking about doing this. Anyone else?

I am, it's a tough course, but I love it. I have never been to a race that is so well organized.

Hey I'm already signed up (they were giving out Early entries at Disney Marathon). Also if you're from the area they have a 10k - coming up soon the Race to Register - if you finish it you get an early entry.

I like the course quite a bit, some interesting spots and great views. DC is relatively flat (no its certainly not a sheet of glass), the crowd support is unmatched, last year at one point I could barely hear myself think as we ran behind the Lincoln Monument. Just deafening. And the Marines run the race like a machine. All you have to do is get to the starting line.

The bridge is the tough spot, because it appears to go on forever (its about 2 miles). My trick is to just look at my watch, and be like OK 14 minutes till I'm off the bridge. Also I tend to grab 2-3 cups of water/powerade before hitting the bridge because its kinda lonely.

I have run MCM and enjoyed the event. It's not one I'd do year after year but I had fun. The course is good, fairly flat but with a lot of turns. A nice tour. The organisation from expo through race is excellent.

In terms of spectators, it does not compare with the big ones but those who cheer are very enthusiastic.
